That's why the entrenching tool was invented, so that those unfortunate enough to be bayonetless can still participate in MFV. Don't listen to anyone who tells you that they were invented for digging holes.

"Beginner's guide to ArmA Modding" Project
stevevcb replied to a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I really hope this project comes to fruition, it was always the lack of a resource like this that stopped me from getting into addon making. I like to know what to expect before plunging in with both feet, I'm boring like that. -
I like to think the guy in the first photo is screaming "YOU ARE SO AWESOME!" at his bayonet.
-
That's funny, I can't think of one single situation from OFP, ArmA or ArmA2 where a bayonet would have been to my detriment.

Volunteer Commando Battalion - British Co-Op Squad
stevevcb replied to stevevcb's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SQUADS AND FANPAGES
We play two "proper" games a week (Wednesday and Sundays at 8pm), and turnouts are usually around the twenty mark. We've had a major rush of new members and are still getting applications posted, so assuming all goes well, we expect the turnout to steadily rise over the next few months. -
Oh god yes, we need the cold steel. Seconding Prydain's offer of ball massages if this gets implemented.

VOLCBAT are always recruiting, and have been going strong since 2002. The average age within the squad is around the 25 mark, so we're fairly mature. Our recruitment thread.

Developers are damned if they do, and damned if they don't. Release it early, but with bugs, and people while whine and say it should've been kept back a few weeks to get it perfect. Delay the release to fix the bugs, and people will whinge and sulk because it's been delayed. Anyway, a lot of it comes down to publishers in the end, and publishers are almost always arseholes. They don't give a toss if a game's unfinished, they just want to get it out of the door so they can make some money. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the early German release of ArmA 2 basically down to Morphicon wanting to shaft the publishers releasing it in other areas?

I've been trying to avoid this thread, but I can't help myself anymore. Roll on, the 19th of June. SteveVCB setexcited true -
These are absolutely fantastic, nice work.

Can't wait to get my hands on the Mastiff, not least because it looks like a Humber Pig on steroids.

I had the same problem with missions not exporting until I deactivated UAC. Seems that Vista is very weird about programs putting stuff in Program Files, regardless of whether or not you run it as an administrator. So yeah, try turning UAC off. Hope that helps.

Worked fine for me, save long load times. The controls feel a tad clumsy at times, but being able to zoom right in and watch one of your blokes boot someone in the face and then bayonet him more than makes up for that, as far as I'm concerned. I really hope the next one is 20th Century. I understand machine guns and tanks a lot better than I understand muskets and horses.

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Public Release!

Yeah, I didn't think that weapon jamming had been implemented until I had three stoppages in a row. It's just luck of the draw. -
Mine keeps jumping up to 1mb/s, then dropping back down to about 30-50kb/s. The servers must be getting hammered.

Looks totally mega, I can hardly wait for the release. -
I downloaded and tried it last night, and quickly uninstalled it when I realised that putting the handbrake on whilst turning doesn't result in a handbrake turn as you'd expect, but automatically turns your car 180 degrees and brings it to a dead stop. I'm (allegedly) a grown-up, surely I can be trusted to drive a pretend car without the computer taking over? Flatout may have lacked the sandbox city, but at least the car did what you fucking told it to.

Anyone else still playing old/retro games?
stevevcb replied to berghoff's topic in OFFTOPIC - Games & Gaming
Bit late to the party here. I still regularly play: - Close Combat 5 (currently going through loads of mods; I replayed Gold Juno Sword a couple of times, finished Okinawa, and am now a couple of days into Stalingrad: Operation Circle) - Jagged Alliance 2 (with the 1.13 mod, which is pure awesome) - UFO: Enemy Unknown, because having your best section wiped out to a man by chryssalids is fun - WinSPMBT and WinSPWW2 (which are both free) - Freespace 2, because blowing up spaceships the size of Scotland will never stop being fun. I also keep meaning to reinstall F22: Air Dominance Fighter (the predecessor to Total Air War; same engine, but without the dynamic campaigns), both original Fallout games (but not Tactics, because it was a piece of shit), and M1 Tank Platoon 2, if I could find the bloody disc. I miss how hard and borderline unfair games used to be. I think that's why I like OFP and Armed Assault: they still repeatedly and remorselessly fuck you over even after you got the hang of them. -
I loved SFP4, so I'm looking forward to this.

@ Carlgustaffa (and others) It's not a matter of saving space, it's more about most of the addons being unnecessary or irrelevant to some people or groups. For example, I'm in a British squad that's keen to give ACE a go for the various enhancements and whatnot. The sticking point is that we simply do not have any need whatsoever for 99% of the US kit, and given that we're fairly strict about what gets uploaded to the server in terms of usefulness, most of us are balking at the idea of putting almost a solid gigabyte of things that we'll never use on it that everyone will have to download just to stay up to date. It's a shame, because it really is a fantastic piece of work. I personally think the best idea would be to split the pack into two: one with all the core stuff (ACE itself), and then one with the extra units and vehicles. That way, there's still a standard pack of units that people can jump onto public servers with, and there's a basic package that people in squads can use on its own with their own stuff. -
Nice one, and merry Christmas!

That'd be the AS90.

Whoops, thought I had. Didn't even notice the bug until you pointed it out, actually.
