Both were quite successful, but they still weren't good films. If the Street Fighter movie had grossed $7 billion, it'd have still sucked donkey balls.

I wouldn't say the Tomb Raider films were good

I love Christmas because there's the annual booze run to look forwards too. I've not been fully sober for three days. Happy days...

MGS had a b-movie plot. Fine for a video game, but translate that to the big screen and it will be so horrendously lacklustre that the humane thing to do would be to take the writer and a loaded shotgun behind the barn...

Nice work. I'm looking forwards to going charging into the fray on horseback, waving a six-shooter around, then probably getting my horse shot through by an RPG-7

Scooooore!!

Being a redcoat at Rourke's Drift would certainly be interesting...

I played Pac-Man a hell of a lot as a kid, but I don't run around mazes eating pills being chased by ghosts and listening to repetive electronic music. Same way I'd shit a brick in real life if I had to shoot someone.

Well, we learned that. Not sure the politicians did

OFP sure as hell hasn't glorified war for me. Playing MP with a good group of guys that you know quite well can really get the message across. One minute you're tabbing across a field, the next someone's been shot in the legs and is lying on the floor shouting for a medic. Nobody saw the shot, everyone's half scrambling for cover and half rushing to help the wounded guy. Or worse, when you send someone down a street to check it out during a lull in the battle, and you watch them dashing from cover to cover, and just as they turn around to gesture you on, they get shot and just crumple over. If you ask me, taking the realism away from the setting will glorify war more than setting it in a real place or scenario. Parachuting into Traconia with the 33rd Danubian Parachute Regiment and capturing the town of Drassen from the Traconian Army is too clean and detached. You know it's not real and will never happen because it's not real. However, when I'm bringing up my SA80 and drawing a bead on an African paramilitary in OFP, thinking that not so long ago someone might have been doing the same thing in Sierra Leone, it really makes you think.

Thanks for that Drow. That cleared things up.

Actually no it isn't, "gook" means enemy soldier, it has been used in wars for ages. Calling them a dink would be offensive. I would love to see the fight from both points of view seeing as nobody has ever covered the VC side of things before. sim You could argue, however, that the use of the word "gook" is now used almost exclusively in reference to a Vietnamese person, soldier or otherwise, due to the fact that it was "popularised" in the Western consciousness during the Vietnam War. On topic, I always found it odd how there are so many war films (and now games) about Vietnam, yet 90% of them are from the perspective of the losing side, whereas the majority of war films and games are from the perspective of the winning side. For example, I can only think of two or three WWII films from the German point of view, but I'm spoiled for choice when I have to pick films from the Allied point of view. Hence why I'd love to play as the Vietcong or NVA. It'd be refreshing to play as the side you never get to see in that light.
-
I'd rather play as the VC/NVA. Nothing like having to use guile and your environment to counter and defeat an enemy that's technologically superior.

Makes me want to dig out my 1:24 scale Harrier Gr.Mk.1 model kit and finish the bastard off

I used to have a little Space Marine collection, just because I love painting collectibles. They looked a bit out of place between by Chieftain Mk. 5 and my panzer grenadiers riding on a Tiger I, though. I have a friend who used to play the TT game and he loves DOW, but prefers the freedom you have with regards to how you play and what you play with in TT games. It's possible to win through brute force in DOW (I've wiped out entire Ork armies using a Land Raider and a couple of squads of Terminator Marines), whereas there's more of an emphasis on tactics, skill and luck in TT, as well as more units (support weapons, for example, were totally skipped in DOW). Plus, you get to build your army up and paint them, which is the sort of thing I personally enjoy. I do like how the armies all play differently though. So many RTS games can be played by either side because their forces are practically the same, but with different sounds and textures. If you play with the Space Marines, you have to use ranged fire to thresh the enemy down before meeting them in close combat, using tanks and dreadnoughts to support. As the Chaos Marines, you need to use mobs of weak units to keep the enemy occupied before you send in your shock troops (Possessed Marines etc.). The Orks just need pointing in the general direction of the enemy and sent on their way, and the Eldar, erm, break really easily.

addon idea: HYK tortured captive

I can vouch for that. My ex-girlfriend had a wonderful line in getting her own way with a stick. -
Hopefully it'll be possible to modify it too. I'd love to go for a ride in a Challenger 2 in a proper sim

I assume they stash or get rid of them when they land. Along with their rig and harness. -

Very nice work lads, top stuff. Felt like I was playing VBS1 at one point Only problems I have is that the Airport Patrol guys have untextured scopes on their rifles, and the SASR HALO bloke has a big square untextured patch on his helmet. Might just be my install though. -
Falklands, it's perfect for OFP and their work is stunning. Plus, Ash and Kev would bite my ears off if I didn't vote for them If I had another vote, I'd go for I44 just because I want to re-enact A Bridge Too Far

Aye, they used to do that to fox the Argie pilots. One second they're on the tail of this jet, then the next it's just slowed down and leapt over their heads! I think the term is "Viffing" (VFF'ing - Vectoring in Forward Flight).

I've wanted to move to Ireland for years, but my reasons all boiled down to the fact that I love girls with Irish accents. Hardly enough to justify country-hopping on, is it?
