Bloody hell! They look the dog's bollocks mate

Great work Jagster.

Good idea, makes for different objectives. Securing crash-sites trying to locate sensitive materials and that sort of thing. Since the textures are so big, it might be an idea to split the download into different nationalities or something like that. For example, all I want out of the pack is the RAF Hercs, I don't really care about any of the US ones or an Iraqi one or a South African one. Another person might just want the US ones but not the RAF ones. At least that way, people can pick and choose to keep their addon folders at a reasonable size.
-
I think that's the same pack I was going to send. Couldn't remember for the life of me where I'd found it
-
Jag, I might be able to get hold of some real military fonts for you. From memory, the pack I'm thinking of has the USAF font, as well as most RAF ones from 1940 to today.

If it's moddable, we could be looking at OFP 1.5 there.

Illusion Softworks are a great team. Unfortunately, I can't remember any of their games having mod support If it turns out like H&D but in the 80s or 90s, I might have to look into it.

Didn't they call the tracked Rapier something like Jernas when they tried flogging it? Can't have enough British kit though
-
I think you'll find the MLRS is based on the Bradley chassis. Just a different hull.

Link's dead for me

Looking fantastic. The P226 looks a bit odd in the first-person shot, but I'm probably thinking of the wrong gun or something.

Are you going to have to pay a penny for it when it gets released? No. The ECP team's working on this in their spare time as a hobby. They're not working on it full-time, and we're not paying them a penny to do so. They're doing it because they enjoy doing it and want to release it into the community for free. So until the day you're paying them to do this or the day they actually owe you a single fucking thing, keep your stupid-arsed comments to yourself. With ungrateful tossers like you in the community, it's no wonder so many addon teams and mods quit or disappear.

Soldier model... looking suspiciously much like...
stevevcb replied to Matthijs's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
A newer international soldier model would be great, especially if it came with PSD textures. I've been trying to edit the original international model's textures, but the sticking point is the folds and shadows on the uniform. If I could see how they'd been done in Photoshop, I'd be a lot better off. -
The sword's just out of proportion. The average katana's about three and a half to four feet long, with a blade that's about an inch across. The one in the picture looks like it's just as tall, if not taller than the soldier. Make it half the size and it'd look a lot better. If it was a no-dachi, it'd have a longer handle and blade about a foot or so longer, with a slightly more pronounced curve towards the tip. It'd be great if it had proper animations, but the majority of common katana cuts are just as much about footwork as the blade. Might be a bit awkward to animate it and get it right, but if it was done, I for one would be really pleased about it.

I'm intrigued. Might have to give this a go.

I'm quite surprised that the Abrams doesn't have an infantry phone as standard. I'm pretty sure every British MBT has had one since the Centurion, I assume it's the same for most NATO countries. In fact, if you watch Full Metal Jacket, you see someone using one on an M48. It's just an intercom, or at least they are on other tanks. No real need to mount a radio on the outside of the tank, because the crew will have a vehicle mounted in the turret, and the infantry will usually have a signaller with them.

Very impressive, I'm rather excited about this project now. Well, more than I already was
-
Kenji's T62 is looking fan-fucking-tastic. I'd still rather see his Chieftain though

You may as well slag it off for having a G in the title if you're going to say "oh, it'll suck because of the engine."

Air power is all well and good, but you can't take positions with an F16. Conventional tanks are not obsolete, and won't be for many years. People were saying in the 80s that tanks would be phased out of most armies by the turn of the century, but they're still here. Sure, air power is great, but what do you do when: - you don't have air superiority? - the weather bad enough to warrant grounding aircraft? Tanks will operate in, rain, hail, snow and blow. They are cheaper than helicopter gunships and strike jets in every way that matters: training four tankies takes less time and less money than training one fighter pilot. 120mm APFSDS will kill a tank just as well as your all-singing, all-dancing surface-to-air missile, and comes at a fraction of the cost. Tanks can run on pretty much anything that'll burn, aircraft need expensive aviation fuel. A tank can be maintained for the most part by its own crew, whereas aircraft need specially-trained personnel to maintain and repair them. A tank can stay in the field indefinately as long as it can be refuelled and re-armed, whereas aircraft have to return to their bases at some point. If a tank develops a fault or is damaged beyond operation, it grinds to a halt but can be retrieved and repairs. If a jet develops a fault or is damanged beyond operation, it could well fall out of the sky, and all the mechanics in the world won't get a flying again if it's nose-dived and crashed from 10,000ft. If one or more of a tank crew is killed or incapacitated, it can still function to some degree. If the pilot of a single-seat aircraft gets killed or incapacitated, he's not got three other blokes to take over from him. Aircraft can't do everything, just the same as tanks can't do everything. That's why both are needed. Saying that MBTs are obsolete because aircraft can destroy armour as well is like saying that rifles are obsolete because machine guns fire faster.

ECP, as FlashFX just seemed far too Hollywood for my liking. I like explosions as much as the next pyromaniac, but I get the feeling that if you lit a campfire using FlashFX, you'd have a mushroom cloud to rival Hiroshima

Replacing conventional MBTs with lightweight systems is all well and good until the enemy have old-fashioned tanks. I can understand why various countries would think swapping sixty-ton beasts for lightly-armoured, air-portable things, as pretty much every war since the Gulf War has been resolved with air power and mechanised infantry due to the situation: unconventional enemy forces, air superiority etc. etc. Thing is, you don't know what's around the corner. For all we know, China might casually take a liking to her neighbours. Korea might finally go off. Try taking on a mass of T72 copiess in an oversized Tonka toy with a 25mm gun on the roof, especially when your air cover's preoccupied with not getting blown out of the sky by a competent enemy air force and air-defence system. Besides, tanks are just sexy

Aye, if there's one thing that can save this game, it's MacAleese's fantastic moustache.

I'm looking forwards to this one. I remember playing SWAT3 with my mate looking over my shoulder giving a running commentary like the bloke from the World's Wildest Police Videos programme, complete with corny accent. "When this felon decided to take potshots at passing motorists, it was only a matter of time before the boys in blue... blew him away!"
