  1. My impressions: VERY sluggish, even on very low, minimal VD and minimal resolution the game feels all sluggish and just generally not fun to play...

I also don't see the massive improvements i was hearing about from everyone else.. I'll try fiddling with my drivers or something but at the moment its unplayable, and i have a low spec but it meets the minimum requirements.. Average FPS is 19 on the benchmark, but theres a delay between keyboard and mouse input and the actions on the screen, so it doesnt really feel like i'm 'playing' the game..

  2. Here's a short video showing what happens when you use the Surrender Game Logic.

It seems they try to retreat when they're in trouble anyway, it's just the surrender bit that the logic enables.

Just a shame that you can't question prisoners about enemy Troop movements and such, yet. :p

An interesting question is raised in the comments of that video...

If a soldier surrender will it trigger a 'no enemy remains' trigger? hmm

  3. 72;1291935']You go play the teenager shooter OFP2 (BF2). Wont miss ya a bit.

    @MadDogX

Thanks for the MP vid! Looked great man.

    Alex

Wow, its a teenage BF2 shooter? Yeah i've followed this series since 2001 yet now i've decided i'm looking for something BF2ish. Nope, theres BF2 for that.

I like the way you've summed up a game that has very very little gameplay footage, yet you ignore the whole philosopy of the sequel that they're trying to capture.

Like i say, i'm gonna wait and see what this game turns into, but i'm not gonna make the mistake of last time and snatching this game up early.. Theres still a lot of work to be done it seems.

  4. It's actually a good question (where is the CWR release for ArmA 2), as it seems ArmA 2 is very backward-compatible with ArmA I mods. :) :)

Well, seeing as they pushed the release to get it into ArmA 1 anyway i'm pretty sure they'd like to take their time as this is the last of this line of products by BIS... So they've got all the time in the world and i would think they'd like to polish it all off with ArmA 2... plus most people aren't going to get their hands on the game for a little while longer.. so dont expect it very soon! :D

  5. I'm pretty sure the 505 Games version will be the intended quality. I think the German publishers were a bit too greedy and wanted to push the game out before everyone else to rake in the dough, even if that meant an unfinished, unpolished version. Ah well.

Jack, you reaaaaaaaaally should update your signature. :D

Mate, i only came back on these boards a few days ago :P Too much effort clicking on user CP up there.. :P

I think the 505 Games release will be what they wanted to release, but we all know BIS games are infamous for their buggy releases and good patching processes.

I can see why Morphicon released it early.. the fanboys will jump at the chance to get the game 'early' even if its not in their native language.

I still feel a bit apprehensive at the moment, had we gone from OFP to ArmA 2 there would be a massive improvement.. I think the jump from ArmA 1 to ArmA 2 is smaller than OFP to ArmA...

  6. Arma 2 is not Arma with mods.

Is backwards compatiblity a bad thing? Especially when the models will look better straight away in the new SM 3.0 rendering core?

Backwards compatibility most definately is not..

But from the footage i have seen so far i don't see much thats worth me forking out another 30 quid. But i'll give it some time..

  7. Most memorable OFP game was probably Combined Arms with my old clan SWAF years ago..

We used to have a weekly CO-OP game where we'd have a massive game with lots of players on one team, and we'd use all divisions of our clan (Infantry, Spec ops, Pilots and Tank Crews) to complete one large, long mission over a good few hours of playing. There were no respawns, and each division depended on another...

The pilots had to pick up and drop off the infantry into their LZ's and drop them at the various objectives around the map, keeping their choppers intact. Other pilots provided us with close air support.

Tanks could be called in to support us when we were against a large amount of enemy armour, we even managed to use a spot and shoot method using abrams tanks to fire from out of view and drop HEAT shells on enemy towns..

I was always infantry and it was awesome to play with my squad, working as a unit and backing each other up against the outnumbering Russians... Medics, covering fire, buddy buddy tactics, airstrikes, the lot.

Awesome stuff, shame the clan died in ArmA cause of server bugs..

In ArmA.. IC-ArmA is a great laugh, 80 or so guys would show up for a few hours of PVP to capture towns with different divisons for armour, infantry and air etc. Great stuff.

Also one moment i really enjoyed was getting to the end of Evolution quite quickly and being able to help a full server dominate towns through the use of the Harrier GBU.. Some public players were even working really well as a team and using LD's to laze targets for me to bomb, and they waited outside cities for me to carpet bomb them and soften up their entrances to the cities they were going to attack. Was brilliant.

Hope that inspires u to buy ArmA2.. i'm going to wait and see how buggy it is first!

  8. You talk about players like they're some soulless livestock...

    Arent we? ;)

Well no, but the fact is you need to market a product to get more people to buy it. Doesn't mean we're 'livestock', but we can't buy things we've never heard about..

I heard about OFP probably in 2000 in a magazine, didnt hear a word about it from then on until my cousins got the game (they found it by chance in a shop), and thats how i came to play.. If they can attract more players it can only be a good thing IMO. Best way to do that is by marketing, but the nice website, trailers and pics seem to be doing better this time around!

  9. What BIS need to get right next time is marketing.. Which they are doing a hell of a lot better this time around at least..

If they can get the name out about ArmA2 before its release.. you'll get more sales of the game, and hopefully attract some fresh blood. Don't worry about all these so called 'BF2'ers and such, the fact is, what did we all do before OFP?

You draw in the crowd, they buy the game, they play the game, they love it or they hate it. They hate it, they quit, they love it they stay and populate the servers for us.

You won't get more decent players without attracting the masses. I doubt the offline community in ArmA is large, the campaign hasn't recieved great reviews, and a lot of people are complaining about addons etc and version conflicts..

I hope ArmA 2 has more widespread success! :)

  10. Well, all i can say is that the longevity of OFP was so much more.

Brilliant campaign(s), Decent multiplayer community, Decent performance even on my horrible rig at the time...

ArmA i've had 2 rigs, one good, one bad, performance still bad on the good rig, its the main killer for me. Campaign was also a bit dry.

They both have their positives and negatives, but putting them on a level playing field.. i'd choose OFP any day.

  11. @Jack_UK

Man I thought I was the only one getting those freeze up's!

I have been getting them for awhile, especially after playing for a couple of hours.

I was just about ready to send my 8800 GTS back and complain there was an issue with the card.

I have been getting exactly the same messages in my RPT.

    AMD Atholon 64x2

    Dual Core 6000+

    2 Gig Ram

    EN 8800 GTS 640 Meg (6.14 Drivers)

    Windows XP

Ah at least i'm not the only one! smile_o.gif

I've only been getting these freeze ups in 1.11, no problems in 1.09 and 1.08..

I've tried -maxmem=512 also, no luck. Its not like it 'lags' and textures start loading slow to be honest either, it just sort of freezes.. It froze just now as i was literally 3 metres above ground landing an A10.. i bet the people on the server were happy that i crashed it :S

Anyone else experiencing these problems/have any suggestions or explanations about ntdll.dll or whether its possible or safe to replace it?

    Cheers!

    smile_o.gif

  12. I'm not really sure now, but the instant i read your post i thought it was a PSU problem, i had similar problems before... my PSU did not have sufficient amps on the +12V rail for my system after i upgraded my graphics card to an X1950 PRO.

I upgraded my PSU and my PC worked fine. My PC actually exploded as i kept trying to diagnose the problem. Thankfully only the PSU fried.

If you got any mates with a decent PSU give it a try and see if it works, but you seem to know your stuff by hooking up a PSU to a GFX card lol, so it might not be the PSU if you're sure it isnt.. it was just my initial thoughts.

Hope you get it fixed smile_o.gif

  13. Redownload the nt.dll file and try again

i have no idea what all that code means just says fault in nt.dll soo worth a try. Its free.

    http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?ntdll

    Quote[/b] ]

    What is ntdll.dll?

The ntdll.dll file is a file created by Microsoft that has a description of "NT Layer DLL" and is the file that contains NT kernel functions.

This file is located in the c:\windows\system32 or c:\winnt\system32 directory and can also be found in the c:\i386 directory.

Cheers for the quick response mate, i'll give it a try! smile_o.gif

EDIT: Vista wont let me overwrite the file, and i'm not too sure if i want to... i dont really understand the file and im not sure if i should really overwrite it, the file i would overwrite it with is only half the size too.. sad_o.gif

  14. i'm having a recurring crash, after some play time (30 mins or more) sometimes the game will just freeze, then the sound will start to loop a bit and i cant do anything, i have to hard reboot the system. My ArmA RPT was loaded with stuff, this was the last bit:

  15. Well i havent watched it yet (might do later)

But i dont think that the US really wanted in on WW2.. they were a pretty isolationist country back then, they looked after their own interests and didn't want to be dragged down by the world war being fought..

When America's interests were threatened, they jumped in, i dont think they would have if the interests of the US were not in jeopardy..

    =====

On the 9/11 issue, ive seen countless consipiracy theories.. some things are complete bull. Other stuff may have a point, mostly the witness statements and things where people claim they had heard explosives being detonated etc.. and how the fuel from the planes would not be enough to cause the structural damage needed to make the tower collapse. But i dont think thats true, some people say it was a 'demolition' but there have been a couple of videos close up at the bottom of the towers as they collapsed, and the bottom of the towers remain intact as the top part collapses down.. not from the bottom as some people claim that it was done.. I would have expected it to topple or at least have some more of the structure remaining personally, but then again, im no architect..
