I don't know what the level of infrastructure is like in Egypt. It's likely just not as reliable as the connection you had in Russia.

Hey, I've tried the file you were downloading (as well as some other larger and smaller files) and was able to download it five times in a row without any problem. It might have been a case of bad luck where the server messed up, a connection problem at any point from your pc to the server and back or a hardware or software problem on your end. Let me know if it persists over the next few days.

Every military on earth does rehearsals and dry-runs before practicing with live rounds. If they didn't, there'd be a lot more fatalities. And more importantly to the bean counters, it saves loads of money.

Ok that's more than enough to play the game. What is the error message you saw?

The one thing I can understand but not appreciate is the sarcastic or direct way in which threads are sometimes closed and/or people told to search before posting. This isn't particular to any specific moderator, but would largely seem to depend on the previous moderating actions of the particular moderator and his mood. When this happens it's mostly to new members not familiar with the forum ettiquette, and it's not very welcoming to perceivingly being treated in a hostile way. For you as a moderator it might be the 15th identical situation since this morning, but for that new member it will be the first (and to an unmeasurable degree last) impression they get from this forum and BIS. Even though you're not employed by BIS, nor a spokesperson for it, many people not informed of your role do perceive you as such. Closing threads and/or telling people to use the search function before posting is a good way to keep the forum clean as we like it, but only really effective when done in a mature, respectful manner. The number of "Why did you close my thread" or "I searched before posting"-type threads are only the tip of the iceberg of people that aren't helped by "quick" moderating actions (if I didn't know anything about the moderators I'd probably perceive it as inconsiderate) and therefore unlikely to evolve into a valuable member of this community nor a long time customer of BIS.

Is this the point where we have to guess what the error is? Hint: post more information please like system specifications, error messages etc.

I'm not sure if this is v1.1, but it's certainly not 1.0 judging from the newspost ... ftp://ftp.ofpr.info/ofpd/unofaddons2/Hilux.rar If that doesn't work, try v2.1 and hope it's backwards compatible ... ftp://ftp.ofpr.info/ofpd/unofaddons2/hiluxmgv2.1.zip

I'm not seeing much if anything that VBS hasn't got (dare I say OFP didn't already have 12 years ago), and I don't see detail like Havok as being crucial to a military simulator.

No problem here. The server hosting the pictures and hosted mods seems a bit slow though. Quite usual on a Sunday night when many automated maintenance, backup and optimization tasks are run.

Just spotted a rather relevant mistake in my post that you quoted :p Should obviously be: Most do not as long as the project is not intended as a commercial product. I read that post 3 times before posting and still missed that :o

1/10 for being able to download the game, install and start it without nuking the system. The other 1/10 is for? -
I blame all of you people for not posting this here sooner! :butbut:

Hence the asterisk (*) in my post. It's legal to do so, but if it is a registered trademark or design, it could theoretically get you in trouble. Btw, if you use the name "Farreri" they can't touch you as it is at best a parody of the Ferrari name. If that is combined with a car model that bears a strong resemblance (like 90% identical) to any of the actual cars however ...

Taking assetts from another game/mod etc isn't allowed unless permission has been acquired. If you recreate something that is in another game/mod etc without using anything that was in the original files then it is legal* * For the actual design, logos and names there might be a few companies that actively persue people that use these without licensing. Most do not as long as the project is intended as a commercial product.

LCA It has been brought to my attention that soldiers in cargo cannot be killed. Since I am not entirely satisfied with the textures of the LCA I've decided to update those as well at the same time. Mk.5 Because of a new mapping method that I have found out, which should eventually make things much easier (= quicker) once I have gotten used to it ..., it will take a bit longer to make progress on.

Welcome back!

Exactly. A 56k modem would give at least a 25kb/s download, so there has to be something wrong with his computer or connection. Public Wifi can't possibly be slower than his own connection, just got to make sure that you've got an up-to-date firewall and virus scanner installed on your laptop.

Adobe is offering many of their CS2 software for FREE for PC and Mac.

Less than two hours :p -
Moral of the story: Never pay for content that you can download on community sites for free (addons, mods, missions etc) nor software that alters the game outside of what BIS intended. If they are restricting access to this addon until you pay that means they are selling it, which is illegal as well as stupid as players can download dozens of high qualify helicopter addons for free.

You can make a model as insanely detailed as you want*, just make sure it's only rendered once on any system. So the viewpilot/viewgunner/viewcargo lods (for interiours or firearms) or the first resolution lod followed up by a lower detailed res. lod with a low number so that the full detail only becomes visible when you're right on top of the model (for vehicles). It's possible to have model as detailed as those in ArmA2, it's just not possible to have as many of them on screen at the same time. * Polygon limit in CWA is something like 60,000 per model IIRC which I am going to assume is a high figure even for ArmA2 models.

It's a terrible idea to have loads of people in public places carrying guns for "protection". It looks so simple when the military or SRT units do it so it must be really easy for the average gun owner to engage with a heavily armed lunatic in a heavily crowded area. Do you think more or less people will die in such shooting sprees if more people are armed, of which well over 50% will be in a state of complete panick and fear* like most people would be when they have had neither the training nor the experience of close quarters combat and end up just firing at everything that moves? Just because someone owns a gun doesn't mean they are capable to protect themselves with it without endangering other innocent people. Shooting the bullseye on a paper target each and every time doesn't mean a thing in such a situation. Introducing more guns into the equasion in most cases will only increase the death toll. The only thing you can hope for is that someone involved has specific training for this, like the police officer in the movie theater shootout that happened just after Newtown. * These people would also likely be completely in the dark about what is going on. They don't know someone holding a gun. Is he a killer or another armed civilian like themselves? In the confusion and fear, that will likely result in everyone shooting at everyone. Experienced trained soldiers suffer from fear, stress and disinformation in combat, it will be many times worse for the average soccer mom or average Joe, even many of those that have been shooting guns all their life. Regarding gun ownership in terms of self defense: I can to a certain point understand the concerns about protecting your home, family and property with a gun, especially in a country more rife with violent crime as the US is than many other western nations. Even if you were to take the legal guns off the street there would still be plenty of illegal ones left so that wouldn't solve the criminals using them like they do not completely rule out crimes involving guns in other countries. But I don't see the logic in protecting your home with semi automatic assault rifles and heavy caliber sniper rifles. Handguns with a reasonable amount of rounds (no extended magazines etc) and a pump action shotgun with buckshot are more than enough to stop the average burglar, rapist or home invader. It only takes a shot or two to either incapacitate the intruder or make them reconsider their choice to enter. If someone gets into a situation where they need military grade firepower to survive, they should review their way of life since they've apparently managed to seriously piss off either the police or a drug cartel.

So far from looking at videos it seems like there are only two features that I would like to see in ArmA/DayZ. User created missions and time capsules/leaving notes. -
Yay, no more time spent on bugfixing

PRIMARY in config.cpp (regarding weapons) ?
JdB replied to RozekPoland's topic in OFP : CONFIGS & SCRIPTING
Well that seems clear to me, they're not supposed to go in the primary weapons slot (1), but in 2 and 4096. The only slot types that I know of that it's working for are 1, 2 and 256 (heavy weapons). They're completely different classes with their own animations. A nice trick for addonmakers to make a one shot disposable anti tank weapon like the LAW is to make the rocket ammo the same slot type (4096) as the launcher and have it dropped after one shot via eventhandler. That way it won't take up inventory slot space. Found that out when making my own realism mod (the first play test was a real blast, litterally as the Ai was often accused of cheating, well now it was really an unfair fight :D)
