ARMA 2 DE 1.01 (final) Impressions - Post ALL Impressions/Videos/Screenies Here

It's most noticeable in CQC where you find your aim 'casting' about as it tries you keep up with you or when you are in a position and just trying to nudge your character around. Actually, a good analogy would be if you think of games like Tomb Raider where one key press equated to moving one unit; I don't feel like the movement is subtle enough. -

Borrowed a workmate's copy to try it out. Rest assured, I'll retry when the demo comes out but as this was never really improved in A1's patches, I can't see it altering much in A2. It's the patched version btw, with the floating turned off and framerate's ok. -

Oh, I guess this 8GB folder on my HD is another game entirely then? :j: -

After reading dslyecxi's comments in his A2/TrackIR thread I was looking forward to A2 primarily as it sounded like the laggy/awkward movement had been altered. Unfortunately, it hasn't and it still plays like A1 where you feel like you're not quite in control of your character. Deal breaker for me, regardless of any other improvements I'm afraid. Won't be buying. PS. I will miss the A2 helicopters though when I'm playing OFP; they were fun to fly! -
Vid looked nice but the comments about the improved movement model is what has really got me interested in A2 again. Fingers crossed!

SNIP... So basically just more eye candy slapped on the clunk-fest that is ArmA? Think I'll stick with Flashpoint and wait to see whether Codemasters can produce a worthy successor.
-
I won six copies on that ArmA site that ran a series of competitions during the build up to the 505 release (can't remember the name), four of which were signed by Marek and one of his minions. Gave one to a mate who I'd played a lot of OFP with. Ebayed the rest after I realised ArmA was not the sequel I had hoped for. PS. I also won a belt buckle (?) in another one of their comps but it's never shown up!
-
Maybe it won't be PC related at all; ArmA:Elite for the XBox 360 anyone?
-
Porter's a yank so therefore pronounces it incorrectly to atagonise the locals. Just listen to how most Americans pronounce Iraq!
-
Try the demo; I'd never buy a game without trying the demo version first. For game's with no demo, try one of those full evaluation versions, what do you call them? Oh yeah, torrents. Personally, I'm sticking with OFP for the forseeable future. I find ArmA's core gameplay inferior at the moment (clunky movement and overlong animations, poor aiming etc) but I keep it updated and check it out after each patch.
-
I have yet to find a compelling reason to move to Sahrani; it's far more enjoyable on Everon, Nogova, Malden etc
-
I just wanted them to produce a game that I would enjoy as much as their last one but unfortunately they didn't.
-
Tbh with a game like ArmA some of those scores are to be expected as, like OFP, it's kind of a 'marmite' game; people tend to love it or hate it. Even with some of the extreme scores on there, the average is still good and it's had decent previews on GS so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
-
[snip] Soz, had a question about this but found the answer anyway as soon as I'd posted!
-
I don't play it now! Only time will tell whether this is a better successor to OFP than ArmA has been; coming from different developers at least means I won't be as disappointed as I was with ArmA. Other than that (or Enemy in Sight if that ever appears) it'll be OFP for me until Game 2 turns up! Â
-
No noticeable improvement in performance. No improvement in controls, aim inertia etc. OFP FTW for the forseeable future.
-
A screengrab would have sufficed, such was the length of time ArmA was on the screen! Â The only interesting bits were 'blast from the past' Sujoy Roy and the competition for a ton of gear. But no one else is allowed to enter now that I have, or else...
-
Regardless of the rest of the review, the introduction is bang on
-
It's one of the OFP flaws that got carried over to ArmA; I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it to get fixed. Â
-
Patched ok but now game won't launch citing a Securom error EU version and patch btw
-
I think he's asking where the 1.05 patch is.
-
People wouldn't 'moan' if the new features and updates (such as HDR and the grass) were implemented correctly to begin with but they weren't. However, by pointing out these things they get adjusted in patches, hopefully to a point where they work well and add to the game. HDR is flavour of the month like Lens flare was 5 years ago and most games implement it in an over the top way, ArmA being a prime example. It's like someone is shining a strobe light in your eyes as you turn around! If the effect gets turned down it should be something like, maybe it'll be one of the 1.05 tweaks. PS. I prefer to think of myself as providing constructive criticism, not moaning

Looks promising  PS. I'll have to update my avatar then so just the arms move

Looks like the dollar = pound philosophy doesn't just apply to Vista Â
