" actually, I think some attitudes set forth by some here are like spitting in the face of the victims of this murderer. " - Sam Samson you don't seem to understand do you. I will type in short sentences so you do understand. there is more of them than you. they are more powerful than you. they can hit at any time and any place. the only way you can try and prevent that is by having better intelligence. To have better intelligence you need an intelligent leader. Your current president is as thick as shit. sitting at your computer saying how much you hate terrorists will not help anyone and when voiced to a wider range of people than computer gamers will provoke problems (e.g. september thingy). This is not pearl harbour, you cannot nuke terrorism. The evangelical protestants could get VERY nasty. The Muslims were only branded "Fundamentalists" in 1980s.

Okay E6Hotel i submit and bow my head in shame. Maybe i was just basing my opinions on what i had heard about the USMC and the films (Why does the military let these crappy films come out and ruin their reputation anyway?). I still hold stong though on the land warrior thing, i don't know who's going to get it but first i think they should read Lt Colonel Ed Fleming's (ret) dissertation on "Human factors error in a cue and symbol saturated enviroment"! It was based around a cockpit enviroment but basically if the infantry guy has a hud with all his vital info like "You are hungy" and "you're show laces are untied" you'll get the same effect, lot's of problems. Pilots are said to need the fastest reflexes because they need to take in all the information at once then immediately utilize it in combat while all the grunt had to do was walk along until he got shot at, and then simply die or shoot back and win. But with LW thing he will have to basically have the same reflexes or even faster when the engagement range got down to five metres like in malaya. Has the M16A4 got full auto? The burst on the M16A2 is annoying when the combat gets closer (not that i would know anyway, well apart from OFP ) Oh and here is something for you to argue about in a civvilised manner of course! Officially the first fundamentalist groups were Evangelical American Protestants. "Fundamentalist" is a word that was used to justify the American missile attacks on the Sudanese chemical plant (pharmacy) and if you are a fundamentalist nowadays you are the target of America's war on terrorism (as fundametalists are now terrorists according to GWB). So isn't it ironic that the first official terrorists were Americans?

" "Semper Fi" isn't a quote, it's a way of life. " - E6Hotel They really do brainwash you don't they. I'm sorry but the USMC is basically normal grunts who have more lasers and lights and buttons on their guns. Are you going to be adapted for that land warrior crap? With the OICW thing? I personally don't care if you get it mainly because all the money you waste on it goes to us (the UK) as we own Royal Ordnance which owns HK. anyway you've tested it against the Para regiments and Royal Marines and they still won every exercise. lol The American military needs to understand that flexibility is the key. Mobility is important in modern day warfare but it's no way the only factor that contributes to a unit's success. A patrol commander for example in the USMC has a radio and is basically told step by step what to do. In Malaya the British patrols would go out into the jungle for weeks on end doing counter guerilla warfare all on their own. This whole mid east thing should be as bgnorway said be resolved by diplomacy and not arming countries that you think might be useful to your economy.

Othin - I've heard lot's of rumours about the USN and Marine pilots (mainly good ones of course) but i've only seen and been told about F15 pilots from the USAF coming over here. I've never heard about or seen F18s or anything other than F15s In Wales (apart from airshows) They definitely come over here and operate out of RAF valley. I'm not sure if it's cross training or just exchange (like the harrier pilot you got - btw ask him if he's done lot's of flying in Wales and if it's fun when the weather comes down! but anyway the i've been told that the American pilots who do come over to Wales just aren't used to flying low in bad weather. I had the impression that the USAF trained in Nevada or Arizona but i now nothing about the USN other than they've got big ships compared to ours! Find out from the Harrier guy because he will probably know.

" Fighting involves two combatants trading blows of some sort. The word you're looking for is "murder." " - E6Hotel If it was murder it would be considered a crime. Which it is not, it is unconventional warfare. They cannot fight you directly on the battlefield (only China and Russia can do that) and you will not tolerate their point of view so they resort to terrorism. What is it with semper fi? Are you in the USMC where they indoctrinate you with useless latin dialect? Latin is extinct! The new language of the world will be Arabic when "they" take over so why learn latin? Joke by the way. The UK will always be the smallest most influential country! If you want a good quote: You're a loser baby so let's kill you! - Nick Abbot

"ANYONE who believes that our fight is with Muslims is wrong." - E6Hotel Okay you're doing terrorists right? Why not start at home with all your US based mercenaries etc. Or why not go into Northern Ireland or even better Israel where there is terrorism. That would be cool. The USA invading Israel and setting up peacekeeping ops. But you go to Afghanistan! All you want there is oil. Why bother telling the few terrorists there are in Afghanistan that you're going to go there and start the campaign? All that would be left there after your months of prepararation and war cries would be rocks, tribes (that have been tagged taliban and AQ so you have someone to parade in front of the news cameras) and civvies. And of course oil in the Caspian Sea. And what i find funny is when i saw them all going to Afghanistan i saw MI-17s and Antonovs ferrying troops around and then after a week the news said "Russian forces have been helping with the logistic side of the campaign" Basically the Americans are going to claim Afghanistan and suck all the oil out and share it with the Russians who fought 11 years against american weapon supplied Mujehedin forces. it's all a conspiracy muhahahahahah

I got that too but like E6hotel i used what was relevant. GWB - "this is not a holy war. this is military expeditions to recover the Holy Land from the Muslims undertaken by European Christians in the 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries..........God Bless America"

"After all, you can't reason with rabid dogs." -E6Hotel Well you can't reason with Americans when they get their heart set on something. Have you heard or not heard the rest of the world pleading to you not to go into Iraq? But no your national pride is too strong too deny a target like SH, so while your military is running all over the world rounding up terrorists while OBL sits on the White House lawn having a picnic. By the way has anyone noticed my signature? How stupid can a person get? Oxford compact dictionary definition of "crusade" = a war instigated by the church for alledged religous ends. Lol

"Seems to me (and a few others who contributed to the previous page) that America should merely stop causing or contributing to "the real problem" and leave resolving "the real problem" to the good nations of Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Canada, etc." I'm sorry our country isn't in that list, but then again we don't deserve it. I'm afraid that like most of our prime ministers Tony Blair like to lick the shit off any US presidents backside. Wouldn't it be good if a goverment actually represented what the people thought and stopped sucking up to the USA and became more like european countries, including getting the euro because they are lovely and shiny

E6Hotel "OBL's dream was to unite all Muslims in "Jihad" against the West. So far, that hasn't happened either." Jihad in can be interpeted as holy war, but as the majority of Muslims know it as "the struggle with the self" we'll use that term instead. I have no bloody idea what my best friend thinks dreams about and i would not be normal if i did, so how would you know what Mr O.B. Laden is thinking about when you never met him taking into account that CNN makes up any old tosh when they're bored. I think you'll find that lot's of Muslims don't like the other Muslims from the wrong side of the road etc. There are differences, Americans descended from the British (among others) so technically we're linked but lot's of British do not think Americans are as "amazing in all aspects" as they make themselves out to be. I really don't get this war on terror thing, if you're so concerned about wiping out terrorism why don't you stop funding the IRA through Irish sympathy groups? The AR-18 rifle was a competitor to the m16 rifle, but they lost the contract, but then they sold a whole batch to the IRA. There was more American made weapons in the arsenal than their was Kalashkinovs at one stage. It was nicknamed "The Widowmaker" by the IRA for it's superb accuracy in all weather conditions. I completely agree with Bernadotte on the fact that there will be no end to the people who hate America if America tries to kill them all, genocidally. It's been tried and tested over here for the last 30 years or so. An IRA nail bomb in the centre of London, we retaliate with SAS hit squads eliminating who we think responsible, then a week later a second nail bomb twice as large goes off in another city. America has had the shortest History of any major country and it's managed to make more enemies than we could ever do in hundreds of years of existence, the masters.

The CIA has far too much publicity, it seems that whenever the CIA does something everyone knows. Talk about free media but does the CIA know anything about keeping secrets secret. What i find funny is that after the cold war when everyone was asking each other "did you know about our plan to..." that the Russians said they knew about most of America's new projects but the Americans had no ideabout the new weapons Russia was bringing out. I think Norway is just a really nice place myself, they give loads out to the world, don't screw over everyone like most capitalist countries and are one of the cleanest countries in the world. Sweden also is nice because unlike everyone else including the british they don't sell their weapons off to anyone who wants them. And they hardly ever attack anyone even as part of a coalition, but if you attacked them you would have serious problems on your hands! But thats silly just basing a country on how clean it is, look at america it's way down on the clean list but nowhere near as far down as we are! lol

fair point Vade, but still, painting big orange squares on tanks sounds like military stupidity to me! Okay i got another one. After US pilots go through training and are aces flying their amazing aircraft, they are told "Right your off to Wales to be taught how to fly by the Brits" which obviously causes laughter in these confident men who have had many hundreds of hours flying. Now bear in mind that they have been training in Arizona and Nevada etc. So avererage flying conditions are over flat ground in unlimited visiblity. So all these yanks swagger in to the breifing room laughing and joking and thinking "wheres the nearest bar" and the RAF guys are smiling inanely as they give the route. then the yanks walk outside and realise F*** there's CLOUDS! and RAIN! Visiblity in Wales is usually less than a kilometre on a average rainy day but can get down to 50 metres in under 10 mins. Fast jet guys who fly harriers and tornados tell me hairy stories about how they're blasting through a canyon at minimum altitude of 250ft  (they go lower when no one is around! at 600knts and they misjudge for a split second and are following a wrong valley towards a cliff of rock, they might have 2-3 seconds to react if they're lucky. This is all part of cross training and maybe some european countries crosstrain the USAF as well? The military stupidity part is that instead of training in Nevada why don't they train where weather exists like in montana maybe (my knowledge of US states iss limited but i know there are mountains in montana) so that they have a wide range of operational ability instead of just flying at 40000ft and dropping LGBs which always cause "collateral damage"

In the Gulf War in 1991, the European forces lost a large amount of equipment/troops to American Friendly Fire. So because of the american pilots not doing their homework and learning that a Leopard MBT looks quite different from a T-55 MBT the Europeans had to start painting orange squares on their vehicles, which slightly ruined the whole idea of camouflage. What's ironic is that if they didn't paint orange squares it would be harder for the iraqis to see them but it would make no difference to an apache gunner who could use IR stuff.

But chemical weapons aren't WMD though. Everyone used chemical warfare in WW1 and in medieval times we used to spread disease in besieged castles by catapulting week old dead bodies and animals into the courtyard. In the gulf war GWB senior said something along the lines of "If Iraq uses any chemical weapons on allied forces then the USA will retaliate with extreme force" Note how back then they said chemical weapons only. They underestimated him or they just knew he had no weapons. Either way it looks bad for the Americans as now they are saying he has WMD as a tool to try and get support to go and "liberate" iraq

I would say that you need more control over the guns and thus who gets them but as there are more guns than people i think that is unrealistic. You can always do what the israelis do - have everyone who is part of an institution armed and ready to deal with nasty people, like teachers for example. As FS pilot rightly pointed out we are the reason Americans carry guns! Lol.

that's bollocks not being able to shoot accurately when kicking stuff. In 1980, the SAS stormed the Iranian embassy. When the assault started a hostage ran to the nearest window as the guy guarding him ran the other way, opened the blinds and there was a guy in black swinging towards him. The SAS guy came smashing through the window kicked the guy in the face (can't instantly decide who's friendly) and saw in his peripheral vision a guy running to the away down a corridor (the terrorist guarding the hostage). the SAS guy had his Mp5 out and full autoed the guy while moving out the way so his colleague could get in the window. the whole assault didn't last more than a minute. The SAS rules.

"Someone mentioned Patriotism.......after 9/11 every house in the god-damn-world had flags ouitside. Nothing is wrong with that, but shouldnt we of had flags anyways?" not really, true we don't have a country to be patriotic about. But there's something more patriotic in having subtle pride instead of overt flags all over the place. i went to New York in the summer to see some relatives and although New York is going to have more flags obviously, i still felt that it was overdoing it. on a twenty minute trip i counted over 400 flags! btw there is 2 known Welsh flags in New york. One on a shop somewhere near central station and one on my closest relative's house. Go Wales!

Who says America should be the world police? It's not their place. Saddam Hussein probably has chemical weapons but not WMD. WMD - Biological + Nuclear Iraq's GNP for the last ten years would not be sufficient to safely produce biological or nuclear weapons in a purpose built facility that is concealed from UN weapon inspectors. The reason Iraq doesn't like weapon inspectors is the fact that they have been used to gain information that would provide an advantage for the country that the weapon inspector "served". It is reluctant to let UN weapon inspectors in at the prospect of a war with the USA. And Saddam Hussein is no idiot, he would not use WMD on anyone anyway but it would be a useful asset for his country to have as a deterance.
