  1. This is one of the most important aspects of infantry combat. Agree 110% This is currently possible, with a little homework. Capitals rarely get anything done quicker. BIS has been inundated with this request already. It has already been implemented in the military convoy trainers. If it hasn't been deemed top secret and military only we might see it. Once again, this is currently possible. There are rumours that the issue of 'clipping' will be resolved in Armed Assault. Cross your fingers. AIs should do this automatically.

What do you *HOPE* will be in ArmA modding?

I am looking forward to a community where addon making is well documented and you have a broadly educated base of players who can produce some high quality work. In OFP 95% of the addons are fucked in some way mostly out of ignorance. The attempts at standardisation were pretty limited, and need to be expanded on.

    Great JIP mission ideas

Dynamic Campaign. Very long missions linked together to form an ongoing operational battle. Two player-commanders in control of a large force's logistics and operations, over a period of a few months.

    The so-called "grown up" community

Someone may have a very high post count and be an immature tit, whereas the person who doesn't waste his life posting in threads like this could be a very mature and sensible person. A lot of people on the Zeus community do not have BI forum profiles, yet we are one of the most mature and sensible communities out there (excluding me of course).

Cordon off Baghdad city centre with armoured vehicles, stick mr Sadam in the middle of the square with a chair and some fags. Then let the Iraqi snipers come out to play.

    Soviet tank squad doctrines

Redundancy and Depth. Ensure there is always a greater ratio of your own tanks, by use of concealed movement, better recce and well rehearsed movement drills that minimise losses. Ensure that if the enemy breaks through on any sector, your second line of defence is always in place. Vague, but true.

USA Politics Thread - *No gun debate*

*chuckles* Those last few posts were comedy gold. Also, I don't feel much need to respond to Sophion-Black's comments as you guys all got there before me. Edit: But I am going to anyway, for the comedy factor. If anything I feel the US military is over-educated, with many of the lower ranks having been to university and graduating. I am often amused when I see a Corporal or a Private in the US Infantry chatting about the ideals and reasoning behind his mission etc. Honestly, you don't need to be educated to be an effective infantryman, and too much thinking is actually a detriment to the military structure. If the people in the lower ranks are just as or even more thoughtful than the people in the mid to higher ranks then you are going to have discipline problems. Another interesting factor that Sophion-Black mentioned is the requirement for the US military's officers to be graduates. Ironically, this more effectively says that non-grads are stupid more than Kerry's statement in my opinion. Seriously though, you rarely need a degree to be an officer in most roles in a military. All the degree does is waste 4 years of time a potential officer could be serving. Take the British Army for a model, a lot of the infantry cannot read or write, but they are bloody good at being infantry. The officers can become officers in a variety of ways, either by rising through the ranks (Compulsory method in some Arms, Like Royal Marines) or by going through the Academy, either with a degree or without. So in summary, Kerry basically just slipped out with the truth, which is bad for a politician. The US military is over educated in some areas and the British military has an infantry base who can hardly read or write.

I have made a mission that emulates what we find in Lex Pieceofshittus. It is called absconde obesito illegitimo and is set on Phoenix. It translates roughly into "bugger off you fat bastard". I thought it was quite fitting for someone who has a male model in his profile picture. Maybe when you play my version, you will see the downfalls more easily, as criticising jinef missions comes easily to all Zeus members.

USA Politics Thread - *No gun debate*

Senator kerry said to some students: (paraphrased)The US media is making a big hooh and kerry like any normal spineless politician backed out of his statement. The problem is, he's right. The stupid people as a whole do join the military, it's one of the only places that will have them. They are also stuck in Iraq, as they are not allowed to leave. I don't think a military would be very effective if it's soldiers chose whether or not they wanted to deploy. Why is everyone making such a bloody fuss over it? How is it insulting to the US military? Why can't kerry just stand by what he said and stop being a slimy coward?

Boooooooooolllllooooooooocks RPG7 - Almost accurate up to 200 metres MAX, sights go to 500. RPG7VL - Accurate up to 300 metres, sights go to 500. RPG22 - Accurate up to 25 metres ... anything else ... fucked.
  18. I am very appreciative of the confirmed new features that will be in Armed Assault. The fact that it took VBS and military input for them to actually get done is what I am annoyed about. You know very well your chatting shit, the fact that you are heavily connected to VBS makes your answer almost formulaic. This is how technology is done, the first guy to pick up the bill (usually the military finding new ways to kill people) pays inordinate amounts of money and someone makes an easy killing. Then soon the technology becomes widespread and eventually it is almost impossible to distinquish between military and civilian versions of the technology. e.g. GPS - 5 metres for military, 20-30 metres for civilian. On the scale of the size of the world, very small difference. However I am not asking the BIS people to launch bloody satellites. I am asking for a civilian version of features that have been implemented already. This is amazing, I am asking a game developer for a simple replay feature so I can watch a battle again and people are treating it like I am asking for NASA software, the word I mentioned earlier was blacklisted. The only reason stopping this development is dodgy politics, not technical unfeasability. This is ludicrous.
  19. What is most bloody annoying is soon as VBS gets a feature it seems it is blacklisted for implementation into the game version. I understand that BIS needs to keep VBS attractive to it's military clientele, however surely it could do this without completely alienating the gaming community from features that would be greatly appreciated. Here are some features that have been deemed purely 'military use only' with some examples of how they can be very useful in many other games and in OFP. Replay Function - Was around in games long before it was in military simulations. Gran Turismo, Il-2 Sturmovik. Football games even have it. A lot of people like to review what they have done so they can improve, not just people wearing uniforms. Observer Function - Running a league match, admins from the league can administrate matches in real time, ensuring no cheating occurs etc. A LOT of people in OFP play competitively. Cooperative missions could also be made a lot more dynamic and interesting by dynamically adding shit. As for all the graphical fancy stuff and animals ... that is not important. I am really quite dubious as to how you got the military to buy such a load of fluff in the first place. I am not one of those people who loads up the editor and takes screenshots all day, I actually play the game. Graphics are 10% of the game to me and they seem to be 90% of VBS. If you were to include such functions in a later patch for Armed Assault, I don't think the military users would drop all their investments in VBS and start playing as Sam Somebody on the island of somewhere. They have their special licensing already and can just ask for stuff which BIA or whoever is obliged to make for them, something they couldn't get if they used a game version. It makes no sense to deprive a loyal community of such useful features and the 'military applications only' is just complete bollocks. I didn't have to stretch the imagination very far to see some very cool uses in current OFP, let alone ArmA.

Ahhh yeees, the satchels ... Unfortunately by the time the M60 was breathing down our necks threatening to collapse our rear flank, all our satchels had already been depleted in attempts to blow up unarmed AI trucks driving around the frontlines. *cough*simon*cough* As for the RPGs .... the sights are so immensely fucked up it is not funny. You might as well give us a WW2 panzerfaust for all the good it will do.

    ArmA Progress Updates

LWLooser, with all due to respect to your loveliness, I hold the opinion that this is improved over OFP but could be improved dramatically. Monte Casino, Italy, WW2. The Allies bombed it for days and all they achieved was making rubble which proved more defendable for the German forces. Rubble affects the tactical/operational/strategic scope of the battlefield. It would be nice to have a patch with some rubble in it. LWlooz, I want your babies.
