That's some very good feedback and I have to agree. After finishing the campaign, I felt like something was missing, a proper ending, some explanation. Additionally, now that you mention it. The Aliens are in fact quite unimportant. They do nothing expect teleporting around,  doing dolphin-noises, they are not even a threat.

I cannot agree that the tasks were boring, but something I have been missing was the proper use of the CBRN gear, a main part of that DLC. We didn't even have to use that chemical detector.

    Spoiler

Did you listen to all the different radio channels in the last mission? Was that still not enough?

  2. This guy https://www.reddit.com/r/arma/comments/circp2/help_cannot_play_contact_campaign/ was having problems where whenever he tried to play Contact it started up the Laws of War campaign instead. His RPT is in a pastebin link in the comments. He has never played the LoW campaign (which I told him he really should). We did a screenshare and he did everything right as far as I can tell but then all of a sudden it started loading the LoW campaign. We removed the save files it was generating for it but no luck. We eventually resorted to just removing the Orange mission ebo and that "solved" it but that isn't a real solution. That might be something good to look into. Something that seemed odd was that when it got to the loading screen for the first mission of Contact it popped up an error about missing a file from Orange (probably from the mission pbo) but I found it odd it was doing that after the loading screen popped up and not before since I would expect it to look for Orange and then go to Contact if it was loading up Orange before.

If that's the house I think it is, there's a shotgun Promet near the backdoor, and the shoot house inside leads to an oddly-rare pair of binoculars.

    Spoiler

Ah okay. I found the Promet but not the binoculars. I was pretty much using an MK-I EMR the entire game so the Promet wasn't anything special to me. I was expecting there to be people or a "Examine" type of thing. That was a cool house though. I saw it from across the valley on the other side by the smoking offroad and it stuck out nicely. I was also confused by the other house that was close to there. The one with the van with all the computer stuff. But maybe the thing in the shed was the special thing there.

  4. Just finished the campaign! Great work! I really enjoyed it!

    Spoiler
    • Do vehicles lose velocity when the game is saved? I was trying to run down an LDF squad on the road that was walking in a line as I crossed a Danger Zone line. The game saved. I got them but then the  guys behind them lit me up and I died. Reload... vehicle isn't moving, squad of LDF right in front of me. Somehow managed to survive but that was pure luck. It would have been annoying getting stuck there.
    • I was investigating Camp Kresnik in Carpe Noctem, Lost EDI because I tried to open a door, accidentally placed him, and then he got stuck on the other side and the door was locked (Shed w4 at Camp Kresnik)
    • In the final mission/credits I had 5 FPS. The frequencies weren't moving and the sound was stuttery. Then when I hit ESC Arma 3 crashed. I went back to it and was able to "play" it fine once I restarted. Not sure what happened.
    • The pickup I was driving had an "Arsenal" option on it at some point. I don't think it always had it but it did eventually have it. I opened it and when I did I lost the compass at the top of the screen. Before | After | Contents of truck in case that somehow triggered it
    • Does this house have any significance? I feel like it was a lot of detail to put into something for there to be nothing important and no one there. https://i.imgur.com/7YLZKRT.jpg
    • Awww :( That's sad... and a little weird that one of them is sitting on the guys head
    • Not sure why this guy chose to fight in his underwear. He was on the back of the pickup that spawns along the road west of the "root" that is north of Dolnik. It drives by you when you're investigating the smoking pickup with the guy who I think always has a picture of the house in Kulno.
    • Speaking of which, I never understood the significance of that picture. That house doesn't exist there and I didn't see a similar pattern of buildings and fences that would indicate it was a historical photo clue.
    • I love the last level a lot! It had a good feeling to it. I was expecting to have to hold off against the counter-attack more though.... especially given the amount of explosives and AT mines in the crates at the base of the core.
    • Really awesome that you got to fight alongside the Russians. I had just been thinking that and then noticed them in the background.
    • I found three dead Spetsnaz during the other missions and I feel like that's a significant enough development to warrant a radio call back to your friend. Same with having the visions.
    • I found myself scavenging a lot because I didn't know the context of the scavenging. I wasn't sure if I would have access to the weapons later or if I would need to arm AI. I feel like I wasted quite a bit of time on that and never really saw the benefit.
    • Overall though it was a great campaign! You guys have been kicking ass on that front lately!
    • I'm a little disappointed that you can't get through the whole campaign without killing LDF. That would have been cool but doesn't seem possible given the last mission.

Are you guys tracking anything similar to what you did in LoW? https://www.bohemia.net/assets/articles/img/thumbs/arma3_dlc_lawsofwar_campaign_infographic.jpg I'd love to see another one of those for this campaign. Not sure what would be on it though.

  5. I'm going to be greedy and request another one of these like I did for Laws of War: http://moricky.com/2012/07/private-military-creators/#more-483

Loving the campaign so far! A little confusing sometimes but I've been enjoying it.

    A few things I've noticed:

    Spoiler
    • The HEMTT that you're told about while you're at base in Anomalous Phenomena (the one with two looters guarding it) has an invisible wall between it and the trees. https://i.imgur.com/UkqkmDu.jpg
    • Same mission; this shed at one of the roadblocks (south of Polana I think) seems to have weird geometry and you can't get close to it. It has the prisoners inside. https://i.imgur.com/czBQeHN.jpg
    • Same mission, after I cleared Polana I was driving down the road and a UGV spawned right in front of me along this road: https://i.imgur.com/lkMIw1R.jpg I don't remember when exactly it happened. I might have cleared out the camp to the north of the road and been coming back or maybe just gone into the small cabin. But maybe check out the spawn conditions on the UGV and make sure it spawns while people are kind of far away. There's a small possibility that maybe it drove into my view very fast but I feel like I just saw it appear.
    • Nice touch! https://i.imgur.com/QKGRnfu.jpg (I probably commented on this in LoW too but completely forgot that the model exists)
    • I was a little hesitant to pick up the beacon at the helicopter. It said it was a beacon which to me means someone is tracking it and I figured carrying that around might draw people towards me. Not a big deal but thought I would mention my reaction to it. I also feel like two guys randomly died from nothing there too. The UGV took a lot of fire and ran away and I swear there was two guys left running around but then all of a sudden there wasn't anymore and I don't remember hearing or seeing any gunfire.
    • I was about to complain about not being able to see how much fuel I have left because of the missing HUD elements but I guess the fuel gauges inside work. One of my vehicles just suddenly stopped working and I had no idea why. Figured it must had been fuel but there was no indication of any problem and normally they don't run out that fast. Had I been driving in first person maybe I would have noticed though. In the future a "I'm almost out of fuel" or "Shit I'm out of fuel" could be helpful for 3rd person players but probably too late for new voices now. Again, no big deal. Just not used to worrying about fuel on ground vehicles.
    • Disappointed I didn't get some kind of tin foil hat achievement for constructing one and putting it on at one of the looter positions.
    • That hole in the ground at the factory was clever! I don't think anyone even found that beforehand on dev branch either. Might be wrong.

(Almost) All new assets from Contact Expansion for Arma3 in one shot.

More than in Laws of War and Apex all together... maybe not but still impressive.

And that doesn't even count the stuff that isn't placeable in the editor like all the new clutter and vegetation models which is quite a few. Plus the alien stuff. Nice picture! That probably took quite a bit to setup.

And you definitely won't stop Russians and their satelite states from rolling you over without MBTs and Air Force that can hold the ground imo.

That isn't true. AT Ambushes are effective. Finland pulled off amazing work during WW2 and Chechyna wrecked like an entire Tank battalion in Grozny. Mujhadeen messed them up in Afghanistan. You don't need tanks.

Because that description seem to indicate there will be alien entities controlled by AI or playable. Just hoping.

It doesn't indicate that at all. I guess maybe AI but even then I don't think it indicates it. Although I too am hoping for them to be playable.

For you everything is fun, absurd and acceptable when its done about you because you know such shit will never happen. Your history is perfect . For context Livonia (modern Latvia and Estonia) was thrown around west east south back and forth, constant wars and never free and independent, always under foreign power in history got free again 20 years ago and now to make such stuff like put us somewhere in Suwalki gap with size smaller than Kalingrad and make us Polish speaking is rlly disrespectful. All that info is reachable from google and i doubt they didnt research. If its fiction then make fiction country not put historical names. People in baltic states already take it with offense, just came to post here because one wondered if there are any people talking about it here.

They didn't put you anywhere. Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia still exist in the Armaverse. No one moved you. You're still there. This is just a fictional country that decided to use the name of the region as their country name. And it makes sense for them to speak Polish. They're closer to Poland than they are to the Baltic states in this region.

Are you also upset that you've been forced to live in Michigan and speak English? Hear that? Michigan! You're right next to Detroit. (I don't really harbor any ill will towards MI or Detroit)

I do kind of get your point and I do feel bad that you and others are upset by it though.

It will be disappointing to see Spetsnaz without any sort of body armor. Pretty sure spec ops soldiers are not some superhumans that can withstand bullets with their muscles. It was disappointing to see CTRG rolling with minimal body armor and it will be disappointing to see Spetsnaz without body armor. Because it seems like their uniform isn't exactly going to be armored unlike CSAT uniform.

Do they always wear it? I feel like I remember something about them not wearing it on long patrols or something like that but I don't remember where I heard that. I feel like I was reading about how Spetsnaz at the battle of grozny were just randomly patrolling around in woods a lot with no real objective.

Not sure if anyone said this but please if possible find a fix for the wheat view distance, it really ruins stealth if the enemy can see you crawling from 30 m away when in all reality you should be covered from everything view wise but overhead

If it bugs you a lot just remember that if someone was crawling through the wheat and the enemy had even a little bit of elevation on you they could see the wheat falling and moving as you crawl through it.

Is there any reason that the airstrip of the airbase on Livonia is not lit up at all? There are no lights for operating aircraft at night at all.

Yeah, it looks abandoned but the Livonians are supposed to have an Airforce, right?

They are supposed to have an air force but just because they have an air force doesn't mean they use that airbase.

Not official terrains, but contain what I would consider rivers. Some were of official quality (imo).

After that there are many VTE terrains that have rivers, or could be considered rivers. Plus many other terrains have rivers too.

These above were just some me and a couple of friends could think of. It's interesting topic terrains, not talked about often enough.

I have over 300 terrains (iirc) or so, without A3 terrains. So I would imagine there are a lot more rivers knocking around.

Note: One or two could be considered Straits, but all are navigable (to a degree).

Yeah there were definitely modded ones with rivers. Some of my first OFP terrains I made (but never finished) had them and four of my Arma 2 ones as well (CWR2 Eilte, GSEP Zernovo, CWR2 Saint David, GSEP Miroslavl'). But I meant official BI ones. I'm happy to have one now although it would be nice if the AI understood bridges better.

The one downside I noticed is that it's possible to fall through the floor a few steps in front of the picture above. There's a small gap between the two sides (left and right in picture) and if you walk over it slowly and at the right angle you fall through. It's definitely too small to be able to allow that realistically. But again, thank you for adding it! I really appreciate it!

There are various stages of forest management present....

Thank you! I make terrains and just wanted to make sure I was doing things right.

I'm a forester on an estate in Scotland and would regard this as fairly "accurate" depictions of forestry.

I do hope you had a chance to talk to Bushlurker when he was around. He would have loved talking to you!

Whoever worked on the forests has done a splendid job, so many beautiful areas of accurate forestry interspersed across the map. Clearings, saplings, there's even some evidence of forest dynamics here and there. Just lovely.

Deers are referenced quite a lot with this terrain, and i'm certain there are deer calls somewhere in the soundsets.....

When you say accurate forestry what do you mean exactly?

    nothing wrong with the tower.

just like the unnavigable (by AI) bridges and roads and surfaces on Tanoa, the new gen of terrain designers at BI appear to not play or own a copy of the game.

That's not the least bit true. These problems have existed since Operation Flashpoint. AI couldn't walk on docks. They weren't great at making it across the bridge either. Same problems in Armed Assault and Arma 2. They're nothing new. Terrain designers need to make sacrifices to gameplay for logic sometimes and vice versa. Not to mention they're limited by budget as well. If the bridges were arch bridges the boat might work better but they probably don't have the 3d artist time to do that and it would look weird. Plus those bridges are only usable in that one instance then.

I promise you they play on it. I have screenshots of them doing that from months ago. But they're responsible for 144 sqkm (144,000 sqm) of terrain and you can't make everyone's ideas work. It would've been cool if you could take a boat down but speaking from experience on the matter it's incredibly difficult to make a terrain look good and be able to have that option. And hell even if they did do it, you'd just be complaining that the aircraft carrier can't fit under the bridges.

And the new generation is quite talented! They've been making kickass maps. I do this stuff professionally and would love working with these guys.

Just be happy you got a river at all. I've been waiting 17 years for one!
