2.5km on Warfare but I had Objects set to High -- you want the setting on Very High for PVP, so the objects begin to be drawn at 2.2km. (it's the maximum on any view distance). For coop I used 2km - that was Domination map, didn't feel like 2km, tho, I tried increasing it to 7km without performance drops. P.S. the occasional hiccups are due to Fraps writing huge files to the HDD and my WD is a 5400RPM, not 7200. They use 5400RPM in notebooks since 7200 tend to die under conditions of laptop use. Learn to use ALT 85% of the time you're expecting shit to hit the fan. Even on a 16:9 display I use ALT all the time, watch my vids for some combat awareness examples. :D

The latest FPS, and not only FPS games, have themes of America in ruins: from COD4 Modern Warfare to Splinter Cell Conviction and it always touches 2 things: the White House, and the American Dream/Suburbs. It would seem that the population is being conditioned that yea, shit can happen in US; didn't you love those house to house battles in MW2 in one of the missions? Hehehe. Although, those games imply uprising or coup de etat by the rogue pockets of population on home soil, rather, than there being a threat of an external invasion. (even if the enemy you engaging in the game is shown to be some camo-wearing guys with a Russian Federation Flag upside-down as their right arm patch) There's been this trend for some time now, quite interesting. Cui bono?

You can also scan while walking with the Ironsight, ready to engage at first sight. The angles are limited, though.

Get a 6 core, or even a 12 core if you intend on running the game in 800x600. Anything over 16x12 will leave the Phenom x6 behind compared to anything Intel has to offer. P.S. Even if they fix the core management and the game will utilize 90% of all 6 cores at all times, you still have a bottleneck in your system - 5850.

i7-860 all the way. It beats i7 930 in games and every other CPU you can think of. Phenom x6, six cores is a gimmick just to stay afloat against Intel CPUs. P.S. I'd buy 2 HDD and do a raid0 instead of that 1TB monster. You will see performance drop over time once you stuff it up files and defragmenting is a pain.

What is the amount of Vidmem on the 5850? Set textures to Low and Video Memory to Very High or Default for starters. At that resolution arma will be throwing massive chunks of textures down your pipeline. :D If the above doesn't help, lower the res to 19x12 along with the above-mentioned steps. Cat 10.6 is out.

Access speeds, read/write mb/sec and cache. Velociraptor is not worth it, might as well get an SSD for Arma exclusively (maybe also Windows). ---------- Post added at 03:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:16 AM ---------- What resolution do you intent to play in/usually play. Shouldn't be no problem at 1366x768 (1440×900, maybe even 1680×1050). At those res you can expect everything on Very high with AA off.

Don't worry about mods. You've probably heard about ACE 2 (Advanced Combat Environment mod 2) - it's a semi-overhaul of some of the game features, which in turn, adds even more realistic features, along with weapons types, units and so forth. (8 Variations of Stryker APCs anyone?). That's all you need to know about mods for online play. There's roughly 50% of the total which are unmodded servers, you install the latest patch, hop in and play, and then there's ACE2, which probably accounts for the 40% of the total. Installing mods is easy, just use the installer if provided and you get a seperate shortcut for the game with said mods. You can have several shortcuts on your desktop: for example, unmodded Arma 2 shortcut, Arma 2 ACE 2 shortcut, etc. If you can't connect to your favourite server with mods, simply, exit the game and launch unmodded 'vanilla' Arma 2 shortcut. And yes, you can hop in on regular public servers and have fun -- check out my Arma 2 vids (mind the performance, I'm playing on a notebook, although on High settings :D). If you're into some hardcore out-of-this-world simulation you can always try to join a Squad or a Clan of like-minded Armaholics. There is room for everybody. I haven't played BF BC2 but I know that it will get boring faster than one might think; I've played this franchise since Armed Assault 1 and there were a lot of Armaholics back then, as there are now. P.S. Think hard for a second: 225km of Land of Chenarus (one 'map'/island/country), water & air. You load the game once and you can walk, fly, drive, crawl, swim, barrel roll from one one point to another 30km away. :D And then there's Arma Operation Arrowhead coming out, which will bring 3 new maps, 2 of them will be huge afaik. (based on Afganistan). Watch more vids, watch BF BC2 vids of 1337pwn3ge (I used to be 1337) and decide. :icon_razz: P.S.2. Judging by the proper use of punctuation in your message(s), I, on full authority, declare that Arma 2 is the game for you. :icon_mrgreen:

A good i5/i7 Dual core will devastate a x6 in games, as for photoshop: http://www.anandtech.com/show/3674/amds-sixcore-phenom-ii-x6-1090t-1055t-reviewed/5 The x6 is same old, same old - 45nm manufacturing process vs industry's leading 32nm. There comes a time when you need to design a new architecture to ever evolving tasks, not just add 2-4 cores at 3.2 GHz and call it a night. Intel has done that, Nvidia have done that, althought their 480 is flop, not in terms of architecture, but, rather hardware. The Phenoms will always find their buyers, have no doubt about it, but you have to keep in mind the Tick-Tock. P.S. It's a nice touch that my Desktop MB supports Phenom's X6 with the latest bios, but I'm not looking to upgrade, even if they drop to $100, since the NOTEBOOK :D has better performance than my Phenom II x2 @ 3.9GHz (Unlockable to x4 @ 3.6GHz).

Disclose the solution: You need to have ACEX_PLA installed. PLA - people's liberation army, chinamen. :D Warfare has the option to select PLA as resistance instead of guerillas/rebels in towns. P.S. to Mods: can I create threads and post online Warfare/Coop vids, provided they are not a random compilation and are 3-5 videos of the same game with description, around 10min each? Or people could just head over to my chan, but that wouldn't be fun. :D

In Domination A2 you can go to Show Status in action menu and Change the view distance there. Evolution mission has the same features, accessed with the 'T' key. Warfare/Benny Warfare CTI mission view distance settings can be set in action menu -> Options -> team menu. Most custom coop missions have it set to 1.2km in my experience.

Do post your PC specs and the drivers you are running. The original post has it spot-on: TURN OFF VSYNC. Force VSync off in Nvidia Control Panel Arma 2 profile, since the game has it enabled be Default with no option to disable it in-game. In an area where you could be having 24 FPS w/out Vsync, you might be getting 30 FPS with it bouncing to 15 FPS and back. Likewise: if you're getting 30 to 45 FPS switches with Vsync on, you could be having stable/average 38 FPS +-2.

Digital map with FCS as features in ACE 2 or Steel Beasts. Digital map OR a radar that tracks all vehicles, but does not paint them GREEN/FRIENDLY or RED/HOSTILE -- they should be Grey. On FCS and how it works in ACE 2: Tab to Activate FCS, recalibration takes 3-4 seconds, laser rangefinder is at 0000, you point your turret and hit TAB again, it beams you back the range to the object. Holding TAB resets/turns off FCS. (AFAIR), there is also an action Turn off FCS in action Menu. Some FCS like on T90s and M1 can adjust the machinegun to required range, so you don't have to aim the turret sky high when engaging targets over 1.2km -- of course, the spread on the 7.62 cal will be huge, but the enemy will at least shit his pants, or catch a some lead. :D P.S. Radar on tanks has to go, tag the tanks with something, so they can spot units on the general map even on expert difficulty, if you can't implement a Digital map.

ACE had it since Armed Assault 1, no reason not to implement it. Shift+V on Weapons with Optics, brings up a range/windage table, you click + or -. Up and down arrows on weapons without optics and/or RPGs/ATs. 50 meter increments.

Great example. The A10 has the GAU gun, Mavericks; AV8B has General-Purpose Bombs load-out that are TAB-Click'able and it can carry 6 of those; F35 only has 2 GBUs & the cannon that are worth mentioning. By the way, exactly the same system could be used for mk82 (general-purpose bombs/dumb bombs) on the AVB8 or the A10 to get rid of TAB and CLICK -> Set the crosshair over the intended target and keep on course, flying directly over it, when the designated crosshair and the static one on your optics meet, you release the munition, with some practice it should give you 5-15m. accuracy. It could have adjustments for speed of your aircraft and elevation, or those calculations could be done automatically. They used this in WWII, and are/were using it in the '80 and '90s. LockOn has this feature and it's great. P.S. Add counter-measures to aicraft. :D

YouTube vids boosted Arma 2 sales, no doubt about it - coupled with BIS TOD (time of day) choice, great textures, foliage & forests, made for some realistic looking environment that had everyone go: :O People want to see multiplayer in action, once the novelty wears off. Warfare 2 or some other varieties of the mod are needed for there to be a sustained population. I never thought my laptop could run Arma 2 at high settings (since I refuse to lower them) and Frapsed a few videos, now look where it's getting me - playing Warfare ACE with custom Particles mod at High settings @ 720p with Fraps running, recording Full-Size res vids (3.9gb per 3-4min :D). It is worth it? You be the judge. :) P.S. I have loads of people with laptops that have similar configs or the exact model that I have, that are PM'ing me and following my vids in anticipation of Arma (2?) AO.

The i7/i5 cpus are amazing, even the mobile version of i5 (the i5-430 that I have in my laptop) is a beast compared to some Phenom x2/x4s. I Fraps full-size and render HD vids on the same machine listed in the sig; 18min for a 10min video @ CBR/1-pass VBR @ 20 mbps bitrate. If you have a similar rig/laptop as mine, go check out the performance vids on the channel. P.S. Mid-range i5-750 is the best choise, mid-higher range i7-860 is king. 2 Cores with proper Hyperthreading and a large cache is more than enough.
