Why would they dump efficiency for an unknown factor at an increased cost? You realise with Steamworks and Steam integration, if they muck up a patch, hundreds of thousands of players will get pissed off - all at the same time, so there's this natural incentive to bring quality each and every time. If I was in charge, there wouldn't be any NO-CD key, or any more versions, that would have mismatching patches and errors upon errors on installation after this Steam integration, not 3 months, not a year after, because I honestly think they can't afford any stretching of resources at this point; Hell, we're lucky ArmA III is coming out at all, they could've dumped it, made DayZ a best-seller evaaar and continue working on the Military part of their business, which is VBS.

Very true, most sane people require some form of progress tracking, whether it is killboards, or "Achivement unlocked: Run 30 km on foot on Altis", or "Destroy 0/5 Enemy Mobile HQ in Warfare Multiplayer", or "Reach the speed of 950 km/h in an L-51" -- it is cool to have. These can be tailored to ArmA III gameworld/mechanics, so that "Make 1000 Heatshots" wouldn't cut it -- ArmA has fertile soil for variety. ArmA II already had the Armoury - but it is rather clunky and doesn't "reward" you enough, since you're not really in a competitive/hostile environment. Imagine bomb diving in an L-51 from 8,000 m altitude and reaching that 950 km/h airspeed & getting the "achievement", while this jet's specs can only push around 900 km/h in level flight.

Trollface is eternal & its true origins precede the birth of the Universe, as manifested in the 2011 Summer ArmA 3 reveal ARG: http://media.pcgamer.com/files/2011/05/arma-map-1.png http://media.pcgamer.com/files/2011/05/hax.png http://media.pcgamer.com/files/2011/05/arma-map-2.png http://media.pcgamer.com/files/2011/05/arma-map-3.png http://unuldor.ic.cz/arma/3.jpg http://aan-online.com/a.jpg And my favourite - http://i48.tinypic.com/2cy3xu9.jpg Didn't want to post this in the official ARG thread, but the above history recap is to those, who think the current ARG may be fake - follow all clues. I'd help, but no time. A3A Cometh.

Preparing to reinstall the application, through which the ArmA III Alpha will be available. Making the Alpha public, provided there are no (not many) game-breaking bugs, is the right thing to do, along with testing out the platform and alleviating the fears. <--- This One awaits eagerly.

Stratis/Molon labe as login doesn't work. :/ The login is supposed to be obvious, probably all lower case too.

"I know. No one can get back on. We're trying everything. It's like the entire password file has been wiped out."
-
I'm going to, seeing as they now adjust to show, if there's an <unintended> obstacle in bullet's flightpath. Didn't use any in ArmA II.

Arma 3: Confirmed features | info & discussion
Iroquois Pliskin replied to Maio's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
19 km^2 landmass, map itself is 80-100 sq. km. http://arma3.files.wordpress.com/2012/04/stratisvsutes.png -
Stratis. ;)

I'll be probably using the Steam forums & the dedicated Community facility to answer the tons of questions that the new wave is going to have, I'd bet that they are more down-to-earth and grateful bunch. In fact, all of communication will be through Steam: Screenshots, videos with comments section, out of game chat with ArmA III players specifically, server lists, friend/online lists, patchnotes, news, mods/missions. Pretty cool. That thing was novel back in 2004-2005, worked well too.

Iranian invasion force. :cc:
-
I was playing on one of those servers. Obviously, can't tell you SP numbers, but even if you multiply that by 5, I don't think they're breaking even on their investments.
-
Bingo. People here think they pull a lot of weight in terms of "Customer is always right". Doesn't help that there were only 2500 people playing Vanilla ArmA a few months after release. Adapt or die, really. DayZ saved ArmA III, but it could have killed it - now we can have both, yet people are still irrationally raging from their entitled high horses. "What, you play Battlefield AND ArmA III?!? GTFO, kid, GTFO, GTFO."
-
BIS have the figures & the data, they've made a major business decision on that data, they will reap the rewards or losses. I'll be enjoying ArmA III regardless.
-
Of course not, just stating the status of the game and the mindset of many. If BIS is a charity, sure they can implement all the suggestions we had seen for the past 2 years in order for 150 people to enjoy the game. But I don't think so. What is going to happen to ArmA III is not a compromise, but a balance, which it desperately lacked, especially in user-friendliness of the interface (that includes multiplayer facilities).
-
I'd like to point out that no servers are running their mods, except for Xeno's missions, which are overshadowed anyway by you-know-what, which starts with the letter D. Case in point - http://arma2.swec.se/server/list Says a lot.
-
Poll isn't representative anyway, the same 150 people - I'm one of them. Even the DayZ forums has more pull & vibrancy. I'd bet there was a danger than ArmA III could get canceled in favour of DayZ, which would still end up on Steam - now people can have both.
-
Of course. Have an old Steam account from 2004 with games only from VALVe, since they'd made it as their main (only?) distribution source - will be an honour to have ArmA III there. See you all in-game. :cc:
-
This March date is kinda random, the motto has been used for times immemorial. There's a spartan shield with "ΜΟΛΩΠΛΑΒΕ" layed out in stones around it at the Northern (or Southern?) tip of Stratis, AFAIR. We'll see.
-
A public Alpha with Stratis in March on Steam would be great. Make it happen!
-
Is this thread going to be running for the duration of the whole pre-release hype? Someone, pls ban me again. :cc:
-
Quality is comparable. Oblivion/Skyrim mods/total conversions have always been outstanding - big titles often garner the attention of real professionals who are looking to get into the biz. TBH, apart from ACE 2 - I hadn't used any additional mods throughout ArmA II's lifespan. Gooby pls. You wish.
-
QFT. Happens more often than people care to admit. If ArmA III does end up having Workshop space on Steam, it's going to be filled with thousands of missions at the very least, which is awesome. Missions rarely are the target of thieves, larger mods with quality models could be an issue tho, but like nes4day said, these models are already in the public space.
-
So this is what it's all about? Well, times change, we adapt or we perish. Armaholic should be just fine, provided we don't raise the level of this hysteria to insane levels, otherwise Workshop on Steam could completely replace all these websites. There are tens of thousands of people who like modding - now there's competition. Check this out - http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/ Portal 2 has 244,155 mods! 244k! Sure, most of them are maps and redesigns of maps probably, but still. Skyrim is at 13.8k mods there. The environment BIS have chosen can be very fertile, provided the gameplay is as we remember it in Armed Assault 1 & ArmA 2, but with a lot more polish on launch.

Meant Workshop. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/browse/?appid=72850&browsesort=toprated - this is better than any ArmA-related website I've seen. I can see the issue here - there are very special interests talking in this thread, the rest are just being irrational.
