The M136 can't really compare with the HEAA rocket for the SMAW. It is plainly worse. Beats the HEDP though.

Shift left mouse click on map equals.. donut?
Inkompetent replied to Doolittle's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Shift-click waypoints are extra awesome as a pilot. Suddenly makes navigation 100x easier. -
Nice, long, well written post! Only complaint I have is this. Don't be cruel to CoD. At least the CoD titles made by Infinity Ward are good at what they do ;)

Clarification on the PG-7VL: Single-stage improved HEAT warhead. A less explosive, better penetrating variant of the PG-7V. The middle ground of AT capability and weapon range when it comes to PG-7 AT warheads. Still mostly useful only against light and medium armour, or the rear of MBTs.

I'm fully certain that there's a change in environment due to pollution and general environmental changes (completely fishing out or hunting out some species to (the brink of) extermination, as well as irrigation and forest-removal. However I'm unsure how big our effect on global climate actually is. Most of it is probably a natural change that would happen anyway, although I guess we might be accelerating it a bit. Nevertheless nature has never ever been tame. It's just that we haven't had any good international documentation of natural happenings the first 5000 years of human civilization compared to the last 100 years ;)

I just think it's plainly put a bad game. Not much good about it. Not on a crusade against it, but I can't see what's 'good' about the game. It is unfinished, unpolished, smack full of bad design decisions, the port to PC is so intentionally bad one is severely punished for not playing it on a 360. I'm actually starting to feel like others with that it's an insult to CoD4 and BF2 to compare the game to them. Just as much as it is an insult for the game to have 'Operation Flashpoint' in its title. +Good framerates. On the other hand it's not hard to achieve when stripping the game down to 2005-graphics details. +Nice weapon animations. +Thermal vision +Lovely system for artillery support *Decent campaign. Fairly immersing, yet quite plain. *Quite okay sounds. *Once the AI actually does something I guess it is okay. -Randomly disappearing mouse -Terrible menus -No kind of tutorial worth the name. -Controls are clunky. Heck, they aren't even made for mouse and keyboard. Unless one uses a 360 controller one is by game design made to suffer. And just try to cycle between rifle or grenades on an 'assault' class weapon... Look at Batman: Arkham Asylum. That's how you do a port. -Graphics are 'meh'. -The dialogs are annoying. -The written briefing is 100% unnecessary since they force you to listen to a spoken briefing in the beginning of every mission just to piss one off, making one or the other completely redundant. -Terrible, nauseous FOV. -AI is 'disabled' at over 100m unless you shoot first. -Nights are bright as day. -Sights on some weapons are terrible. Try to aim with the Mk48 and you see what I mean. -Vehicles are TERRIBLE. ArmA2 isn't famous for the vehicle controls or physics, but DR, despite Codemaster's expertise in racing/rally games, is even worse than the low standard of ArmA2. Again punished for not using a 360 controller with analogue sticks, and even then tossing a 55 ton tank 20 meters into the air for driving onto a rock is pretty harsh. -No singleplayer missions aside from the campaign ones -No dedicated server -Even fewer multiplayer missions than ArmA2, and the amount of multiplayer content in ArmA2 at launch was abyssmal -Exploding barrels!

Firefox + NoScript all the way, which by the way means Google does NOT get to gather lots of info since I simply block out google-analytics.com :P

I'll probably be helping nVidia's financial issues next time I buy a graphics card. Never had serious issues with my GeForce cards, but this ATI 4850 has been nothing but trouble. Downclocked it as much as I can to make it run more stable, but even then I got issues with plenty of games, although less than when running at default clock. ATI generally seem to have a better performance/price ratio, but with my experience with this card, and the fact my friends generally have more issues with ATI than nVidia, I know ATI won't be my next choice.

I was completely serious. Finally the roomie of my best friend bought the game and I've been spending half the day watching it, and I don't think I'll buy it before it hits the very cheap bargain bin. But that command and the weapon animations are things I really, really wish we had in ArmA2. Generally though it feels like a PC-hostile console port. Like CM has really made an effort to NOT make people like it on PC. Menus are dumb, the FOV makes it impossible to measure distances and at a 5:4 ratio screen it's so zoomed it is borderline nauseous, driving cars seems completely impossible, it's impossible to walk without a 360 gamepad (since the game doesn't support any other joystick/gamepad). At a console, with the lower standards console games have, I suppose it could be a 4-4.5/5 points game. At PC I'd give it 3/5. At best. The game is so full of bad design decisions it doesn't really matter if the game is well optimized or not. I'm fairly confident that Modern Warfare 2 will make Dragon Rising as short-lived (at least on PC) as it deserves to be. It should never have left the consoles.

Now that is a BRILLIANT command. I really hope that is included in ArmA2 at some point.

They aren't. It's just an animation thing.

Clean M16A2 is top dog. I think I'd pick a PKM or RPK as #2.

Peripherals used. (multiple selections)
Inkompetent replied to Dead3ye's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Hmm... Only 80% use their brain. That might sure explain why I experience public multiplayer like I do... -
Interesting that the PKP and M240 gets a spot but not the PKM (which I'd personally prefer over the cheat-PKP)

PROPER projects - game tweaks of all sorts
Inkompetent replied to .kju's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
The bikey is only for servers. What you need as a user is a pboname.ofpec-tag.bisign file in the same folder as the PBO itself -
Welcome to Chernarus, RACS! Really nice to see this project brought over. Best of luck with it :)

A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Mod 2
Inkompetent replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
ACE is just a total conversion of the how the game works and supports every game mode ArmA2 does. -
A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Mod 2
Inkompetent replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Well, I guess they show stuff when they have something to show. Some stuff is easier to show off than other features, and some stuff just takes a long time to finish :) As for weapons it isn't fixed. It has never been. Weapons are added as they are finished/donated/given permission to use, as long as they fit in the scope of the mod. -
speeding up time in MP
Inkompetent replied to seedo81's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
while {true} do // double while loops for long missions { while {true} do { skiptime (3/3600); // Skips three seconds every second, making time 4x usual speed. sleep 1; }; }; Run that on both the server and all clients. -
But these planes don't have any dive sirens. Bohoo :(

better effect of vehicle camouflage

The radar is there as a make-do FLIR. Instead of getting actual working FLIR the radar kind'a simulates all the sensor systems in one package. -
Does Bi use the MOD's
Inkompetent replied to Smee's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Unless it is a minor tweak or bug-fix done by the community it usually doesn't get included in any patch. Best possible bet would be ArmA3. -
Barrel length *is* very important for the sound of a gun. That the muzzle might get 5" closer to the ear does little in comparison to what it does to the gas pressure. The excess energy of the gas 'bleeds out' more the longer the barrel is, so the shorter the barrel, the more excess gas pressure is wasted into a muzzle blast. Also, the supersonic crack of the bullet doesn't do much. I'm not even sure if it technically can be heard by the firer even if there wouldn't be a bang due to the bullet moving away from the firer, without ever passing him. The supersonic shockwave doesn't ought to have much of a rearward effect. The actual projectile speed isn't really relevant. Rather the amount of propellant, the burn time for it, the calibre of the weapon, the time it takes for the bullet to leave the barrel, the muzzle break, and how the mechanics of the weapon works (delayed blow-back, piston, bolt action, just to name a few)

Is there a way to report who detected who?
Inkompetent replied to shanawa's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
I think that the magical knowsAbout value to ID a unit is 0.105, so once a detected-trigger has fired you should be able to check what unit(s) has a knowsAbout value of 0.105 or higher for the detected unit. -
It's because there's only one generic flight model for helicopters in ArmA, and it is based on helicopters with a tail rotor. Thus the Ka-50/52 won't maneuver as it should, sadly as it is.
