I want to extend ArmAriffic's answer on this one, and that is that all other games are doing it wrong, because changing suppressor on/off in absolutely most cases other than ease-to-carry is stupid. By using a suppressor the weapon's zero shifts compared to not mounting a suppressor, so you won't even hit in the same place anymore. For close quarters it won't make a difference, but for long range you won't even be able to hit the same person. Also just using a suppressor doesn't make a weapon silent. It's still really bloody loud. The only difference is that it's a different kind of loud that makes it hard to pinpoint the shooter over range, or even to identify that loud noise as a shot when at long distance. To mount a suppressor to be silent in CQB is thus complete nonsense. The only benefit it'd give is less of a disorienting echo and headache when fighting in buildings, and ArmA doesn't model that.

PvP Animation replacement/enhancement pack
Inkompetent replied to smookie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Awesome with climbing of tall fences! One request though: Slow it down. A LOT. That speed looks like someone carrying maybe a combat vest and rifle, which I guess is okay for some units in ArmA. But since most carry much more gear than that (up to 30kg, which is a significant different in load % of body weight) I think it'd be fair if that climb animation took twice as long time. After all it is more about the possibility to move over another kind of obstacle, giving more possible routes of maneuver, than it is about performing parkour :) -
Playing it like that is what communities like United Operations is there for!

The game got 2/5 on the Swedish site FragZone Good: * Epic scenery * Long distances * Well done co-op Bad: * Terrible resolution means invisible enemies at range (on XBOX) * Extremely ridicilous campaign * Inconsequent cover system -
US Troops Get Gunshot Detectors (AKA: Real life emulates CoD)
Inkompetent replied to abs's topic in OFFTOPIC
Well, if it is networked with the other soldiers' detectors I assume that it'll ignore the shots from those detectors' positions. But yeah, sounds like it might get a bit crazy when there are several shooters around. -
How to stop this Cheating in my host room!
Inkompetent replied to avibird 1's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - Servers & Administration
It's probably LostKeys he is using. It's meant to be a tool for mission-making and 'dungeon-mastering', but can unfortunately be abused like that too by those of lower morals. -
How to take a screen shot? Other games easy!
Inkompetent replied to Joe98's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Well, PrintScreen works. At least for me. But it only copies the image to the windows clipboard, so got to paste it in Paint. Technically it ain't broken, but it's hardly a feature either =/ -
Have you patched it with the OA 1.59 patch?
-
You will need to purchase both ArmA2 and Reinforcements if you want the full package (minus OA singleplayer-stuff).

How much is to much AI to run ARMA2 right!
Inkompetent replied to avibird 1's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
For singleplayer that might work if you got a decent rig. It's waaaaaay above the limits for multiplayer though. Cut it in half and.. maybe. -
Has OFP/ARMA put you off the Army ?
Inkompetent replied to cartier90's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
ArmA has opened me more to the prospect of joining the armed forces, and I have actually applied once to basic training, and I am doing it again this year (since I avoided conscription with medical papers when the time was due, and thus didn't do it before they removed conscription in Sweden. Now thanks to the removal I can get basic training anyway). I didn't think I would function as a soldier before, but I guess that a few more years behind me, contact with ex-military people in ArmA, and just exposure to somewhat decent depictions of actual combat situations has taught me that I would probably do quite fine. I'm not fussed about death (at least not in a way that it freaks me out/paralyzes me), and even though my level of... comradiere might be a tad low I think I have the focus, patience, tolerance, and stubborness needed. In an all-out war I would consider myself a quite useless 'tool' though considering artillery leveling everything that anyone spots, but to do expeditionary service like in Afghanistan - that I could do. And just to join in on the other stuff: Oh, yes! It's bad that other nations have WMDs, since only the security council in the UN is allowed to have them! US, Russia, UK, France, and China! If anyone else does it's bad, bad, bad! Hypocracy 2000. I can see several other countries I'd rather give nukes than those listed, that are less ambitious and less dickwads. But they are the big shots, so they decide. After all it's all penis-measurement-competition, and who's got the biggest stick. Those 5 got big sticks, so they whack everyone else into line. And USA going into South Korea and Vietnam because they actually cared about South Korea and Vietnam? Please stop being so blind and delusional! The only reasons USA went into those countries was a show of force. To show that they are at least as strong as Soviet, and that the Soviets can't do as they please, even in distant parts of the world. USA didn't, and still doesn't, give a flying fuck about those countries. Or okay, nowadays I guess South Korea might be important due to its world-important electronics hardware industry, so I guess that's one reason to prevent that country from being shot to bits. How else are we going to get working computers in the rest of the world, in this era where not even a whole continent can be self-reliant in industry? Global economy FTL. -
Using High PP. I kind'a like the blur, and I love the SSAO in OA. Also increased the HDR to High, since the doubled HDR-precision compared to Normal gives less fucked up bloom.

PvP Animation replacement/enhancement pack
Inkompetent replied to smookie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Well, since when would it really be possible to look through the sights when jogging with the weapon at high ready? Quite good restriction if you ask me. And if the gripe is mainly with room-clearing, shouldn't the new more centered weapon be enough to get the shots roughly where you want them anyway, unless you use an Enfield which can't semi auto fire? -

Because the head position is changed to be tilted to the side, looking over the weapon. -
WarFX : Blastcore
Inkompetent replied to Opticalsnare's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Yeah, Hexagon doesn't use CBA. I think they even coded their own kind of extended eventhandlers, stubbornly refusing to be compatible with the rest of the established community. By using CBA OpticalSnare is already doing the best he can for compatability really. Can't do much more than that. -
UK Special Forces released. Ideas/Input/Descussion welcome
Inkompetent replied to Goos's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Ohhh! Woodland! That looks faptastic! (I tend to almost only use the USMC Force Recon FAC for special forcesl, since he's the only dude in the entire game wearing woodland, althoguh sometimes their kit does feel too light). I agree though that please add a lighter variant with boonies if you can, and it'll be complete! -
Quite a sexy paper map too, of both Takistan, OKB 754, and Shaphur! ^^

WarFX : Blastcore
Inkompetent replied to Opticalsnare's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Quite easy to be compatible actually. Proper class inheritance/modification and CBA (if using eventhandlers at all). Some mods using eventhandlers refuse using CBA, and well... then it's their loss that they aren't compatible with anything else that does. -
Could probably be done fairly easily if someone really wanted to, by for example only counting fast enough movements of the bolt when it recoils back. You can do that with quite tiny electronics, but I'm not sure how well it'd be possible to put in a weapon not designed for it from the ground up.

What if CryEngine was used as Arma 3 future engine?

You mean like the flying BMP-1s, and M113s bouncing like rubber balls on mine fields, and those awesome physics? :p -

I still wonder why Sion Lenton isn't a politician instead of game developer. Considering how much shit he's talking, how much he's lying, and how much he changes his mind depending on who he talks to, to get the most 'votes' (sales in this case), he seems like really prime politician-material. -
There's no friend-function in the game (which is good imo), so I'd recommend mainly XFire or Steam for that.

Glowing cows aren't shiny enough? :rolleyes2: -
Why not? All flaws are flaws, right? If something can be improved it's our duty to point it out. It's up to the map-maker(s) if they want to implement it or not.
