Yet to try the game in multiplayer, but I've played 10 levels or so in singleplayer, and it rocks. Quite expensive for an indie game of its caliber imho, but still delivers a lot of original, thought through fun :)

This isn't necessarily a bad thing though. It means that competition by graphics is more difficult and means that the games (ideally) need to have something else to distinguish them. Unfortunately it doesn't really work like that in practice, but I hope that it has to an extent lead to more imaginative and content-rich games. -
Was €1 cheaper on Steam for me than from their website, after VAT had been added to the price (25% in Sweden). Just bought it though, so can't comment on how it is to play. Looks interesting enough though!

I think what makes Arrowhead fall into the 'expansion'-category is that it can be merged with ArmA2 to make a single larger game, rather than two standalones that cannot use eachothers' content. -
PvP Animation replacement/enhancement pack
Inkompetent replied to smookie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Well, you would look really glitchy to everyone else trying to shoot you, and your position on the server might not be the same as the one you think you have with your animation pack. Since no one without the mod can see your moves like you do, simply never ever use this addon unless the server and all other clients also use it. Will cause the least issues for all :) -
Too late to change their mind anyway. The poll is pointless, other than showing that people want the newest fanciest stuff, which is already obvious without the poll. I wouldn't be surprised if the game is made for 64-bit. If it isn't I don't think it's any big loss. It's proper utilization of multiple cores that's important for performance. As for DX11 I've understood it's a quite big step from DX10 to DX11. It ultimately boils down to if they thought it's worth using both, or sticking with DX10/10.1. With the increased performance from DX11 comes increased development time, after all. The game will get what it gets. We can't change that. Not this kind of stuff at least, that can't be changed half-way through production.

PvP Animation replacement/enhancement pack

Not that it doesn't work, but afaik it would need some ammendment to the stamina-system in ACE (or just config-values? Haven't looked at how sys_stamina works in detail) to work as it should with the new animations, and stuff like that. :) -
Had really fun here. And boy is stuff dying?! Got to keep reserves here for a completley other reason than in CMSF. Also love the reinforced sense of C2 here, with radios being sparse and all.

And that's why USA should dust off all those thousands of M40 Recoilless Rifles and mount them on Humvees. About 1.5km range, 105mm caliber. A pretty cheap way to knock holes in houses.

They were on station for like 40 minutes, in an area pretty close to a military academy, and close to larger urban areas. There's no way the Pakistanis did NOT know about the operation. No way at all. But indeed it is a 'low detection'-helicopter. The 'disappear into the ground clutter'-kind, and of course more silent than an ordinary UH-60. At least what's been disclosed this far.

Played it since September, and I really am not motivated anymore. They STILL haven't introduced ANYTHING in the game to motivate people to attack instead of camp. And retarded overgunning of every single tank is still the norm. Good luck trying to play with a historal KV-1 or PzIV for example (i.e. get a KV-2 with a 152mm (historical) or 107mm gun, or the 7.5cm L/70 and a Schmallturm for the PzIV (nonhistorical since the suspension broke on the prototypes when driving offroad) if you want to be able to do anything). You'll get shot to shit, and be at a SERIOUS disadvantage. I'm too fed up with that by now. Maybe I'll return when (if) the Historical Mode comes. Until then... no thanks. Too fed up with developers not understanding how to make a lasting game. Good potential in WoT. Wasted by blind devs.

That sprint-stop looks really handsome! -
Obama is going to hold a speech about it soon. CNN and.. well.. most major international news agencies have the news. This far little (near none at all) information about it is released though, so we'll have to wait for said speech.

Thanks for the fleshing out of information. And indeed I know pretty much noone can afford to make planes anymore. The Eurofighter is a pretty pristine example of that I'd say, when countries as wealthy as UK and Germany decide to collaborate to be able to bring out a competitive product. It was more however to highlight Sweden's incapability of joint development projects (reasons are irrelevant here). But who knows? Maybe need will actually make cooperation work in a decade or two from now, when we'll need to upgrade.

It's a bit obscure command, but quite powerful. Can be used to deactivate AI too so that you can have quite a lot of AI simultanously in the mission, but simply 'shut off' the ones that don't need to be active right now. -
Very true, Rock, but that's also a result of change in Swedish politics afaik. Previously we weren't really interested in sending planes anywhere outside of Sweden, so actual air-refueling and other NATO/joint ops/expeditionary service functionality and compatability wasn't very important. The other upgrades in the C version are quite natural modernizations imo, of the same time most other planes do get. I do not have enough insight to say how big part BAE has in the changes actually happening though (now that Swedish foreign politics actually make the full suite of such improvements viable on our own planes, and not only export ones), but I don't doubt that the expertise and technology held by BAE helped a great deal in turning it into reality. And indeed it is a fantastic plane, but as you say only with a single engine. With the limited performance of that single engine it is fairly lackluster for countries who want a multirole-plane to cover all jobs (while the Viggen on the other hand had an awesome engine for its time, but then again suffered in other ways from that huge, thirsty piece of machinery). I'm not really saying that the JAS-39 has done bad though. It's done 'well enough'. But with the very limited export success it undoubtedly makes it more difficult to make a new plane happen. The involvement of BAE will help, and maybe that the economy can play nicely into the hands of Sweden as well and help us afford to develop a new plane. A collaboration would undoubtedly help with making a new plane take shape, but seeing how attempts at deals with Norway, Finland and Denmark has been going this far I'm not entirely sure it actually will happen. Purchase and possible modification of foreign planes, or the expensive venture of a Swedish-developed plane somehow seems more likely. The latter less so. @Pyradain I too am quite interested in how the Brazil deal is going, although I haven't seen any news on it in almost a year. Last I heard the JAS-39 was doing quite well, but I've got no idea how things have gone after that. Non the less I'm quite impressed by the JAS-39 making it to the MRCA as only single-engine competitor to such a widely and long-time produced plane as the F-16. Even then though, the low number of single-engine planes unsurprisingly meant that it was bad off from the start, since it was apparant India was interested in something with better performance than a single engine can offer.
-
Oh, well. Too bad with the JAS-39. It's probably the end of Saab's military aviation production now with yet another of the few prospective buyers choosing other planes. At least on their own. Maybe we'll see them in the future in a collaborative development of a new plane, but don't think Saab (or Sweden) can afford to make a plane of their own again.

http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/enableSimulation would probably work for that, although I've honestly never tried for static objects so I'm not 100% sure. -
AnimalMother92 Presents...
Inkompetent replied to AnimalMother92's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Just *have* to compliment on these missions. I've not played all of them, but me and my buddies have played most (and not beaten a single one, fyi), and it's some of the most (if not *the* most) well made missions I've ever played for ArmA2. They run like a charm, provide fantastic fire fights, the settings and feeling is awesome, and there's a long enough distance from start to target build up the tension without becoming a bore. -
I like to create, I like to learn, and occasionally I actually want to make something useful. It may be some small addon or a tweak to something, missions for me and my friends, or script solutions to said missions (which often includes reinventing the wheel, writing scripts from scratch that I just as well could download because someone else made them already, but that won't teach me much). I took a small part in the ACE1 team, done some small released things of my own, but most stuff are small scripts or missions for personal use, never finished enough to actually release. As for idols and changes? None and none. I don't really idolize people. I got some people I value for their contributions to the community or to myself as coder/mission-maker, but none I'd call idol. And I like the community as it is. I think that the things that can change the community have to do with the game itself, and since that wasn't to be mentioned I've got nothing more to say on that point.

I would like to report some serious hacking.
Inkompetent replied to Pummel's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - MULTIPLAYER
That kind of hacking is strictly illegal, and the issue has been up on the forum before. However it has been claimed to be an attack to smear the name of the clan in question, by claiming it is them that attack other servers. Best thing that can be done afaik is to contact the admins of Tigres Blankes and have them ban the user-ID and IP of the attacker (which should be in their server logs). -
Show script errors by default, not the opposite
Inkompetent replied to celery's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Something I must say I'm experiencing with most user-made missions I'm downloading. I get the black box for even the most simple, basic errors like marker names not being the same in editor and scripts trying to reference them, and stuff like that. Things that would be impossible to miss as mission-maker if one saw the script-errors or looked at all at the RPT-file. The fact both are hidden doesn't really help aspiring new mission-makers. -
PvP Animation replacement/enhancement pack
Inkompetent replied to smookie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Could probably be done with a fired-eventhandler that alters the speed of the grenade as it is thrown, but for best compatability that would mean relying on the CBA addon's Extended EventHandlers (or XEH for short) since the default A2/OA eventhandlers don't 'stack' between addons. Would require very little code to be in effect though, assuming that catching the animation-state (or some other method of identifying the over-head throw) works well. -
PvP Animation replacement/enhancement pack
Inkompetent replied to smookie's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Now *that* is impressive! A proper peek-around-corners and wall-hugging! Brings sneaking and general carefulness to another level :) Edit: I must say that with all these new animations ArmA2 might start to approach the level of character-control envisioned in Sky Gods/Ground Branch, and that is quite a feat!
