@ wld427 Please chill out. BIS hasn't said one single word on how the licences will affect modding. They have merely informed that they the whole thing is currently high up on their priority list to resolve. Most likely nothing will change as far as retexturing and using stuff from one version of the Virtual Reality engine in another version (i.e ArmA to ArmA2). The last thing BIS would want to do is to kill off the entire modding community, because with that they also kill their whole company. If you feel you want to halt development until BIS has informed us how the licensing will work, please do so. Just don't abandon all hope just yet :)

CM Operation Flashpoint 3 announced | "Oops, they're doing it again..."
Inkompetent replied to Undeceived's topic in OFFTOPIC
Well, that if anything proves his job was not to make a good game, but just to make some shit up and earn money. Conmasters indeed! :D -
Not sure I'd agree with your method of water spray + reward. He might start liking the water sprays since they mean bananas for him when he has been auto-running! I'd make him respond to "ACHTUNG! HALT!" or somesuch instead.

AH-64D Tweaks and Features (OA)
Inkompetent replied to ESheppard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Yes, the pilot can (at least if equipped with helmet-mounted display as in OA) slave the gun to where he looks, and he can take command of all weapons. It is a backup feature for if the gunner would not be able to fire (dead, wounded, or controls damaged). I even think it can be used to help the pilot guide the gunner onto a target (i.e. the pilot can look somewhere, spot something, and 'hint' the gunner with the press of a button to let him accept the cannon to get slewed to the point the pilot saw something at), just like tank commanders can do for the gunner in tanks like the Leopard 2, and I believe Abrams and Challenger as well. Generally all two-seat aerial vehicles have reduntant controls, so that the remaining guy can take over the job of the other one. Usually not with as detailed and good avionics, but it can be done well enough for emergencies. -

And that's just because people go like "I'm so gonna boycot this ga-.... OHHHH! SHINY!". All talk. No action. -

Zipper5 just won the thread. I will carry your baby, despite being a guy. The practically criminal business ethics of companies like CM should not be paid for, even if they make a good game. Boycot them until they change their ways to something that resembles caring about their customers and their own products. -

Ohhhh! ZPU-4! That's perfect for the Takistani! <3 -
A NATO-pack could be quite neat, adding some of the nations potentially not unique and/or popular enough to make it into own, British-scale DLC. For example Canada, Denmark, Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Turkey.

How do I shoot a unit by script
Inkompetent replied to Spudgunner's topic in ARMA 2 & OA : MISSIONS - Editing & Scripting
Think the best would be open the weapon-PBOs and check the config file(s) for the firing sound of the specific weapon you want. -
ARMA 2: OA Beta 72716 is up
Inkompetent replied to =kct=blackmamba's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
@ NeoHazard A lot of the time things that are seemingly unrelated in code, or related in ways not known to a certain programmer, will affect eachother. This means that one can't just say that one should go through checklist X when having tinkered with Y. They'd practically have to go through half the game when making any changes to the engine or inheriting configs to cover the checklist, so it isn't really feasible. Sure, some areas are more or less likely to be affected, but it is still a way too great scope to be feasible for BETA patches. Also, of course they are trying to make it run for everybody. Shouldn't the game run at all first, before tinkering with the polish? -
One reason for the lack of news about the Canadians is that they don't make a big fuss about things. They are efficient and highly professional and don't seem to take 'extra precautions' to make sure to make it into international media highlight.

ive started my own hand to hand combat style based off....
Inkompetent replied to BronzeEagle's topic in OFFTOPIC
For practical use I'd suggest something like Krav Maga and Systema as well. Grappling, locking, breaking and causing falls is a much more safe card than punching and giving the opportunity for punches in return. Deny the opponent a chance to attack and send him falling/flying helplessly into the ground, and most fights are over right there, without the need to break bones or limbs. -
Paradox and BIS are alike in that regard: Both deliver games smack full of bugs (although I got to say that I've encountered surprisingly few in OA), but both of them also take time to keep patching their games even a couple of years after release, and have a tight bond with their community :)

AH-64D Tweaks and Features (OA)
Inkompetent replied to ESheppard's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
This I totally agree on. Would be neat to get different Hellfire-armaments in the default versions to niche them a bit. -
Afraid I don't have much advice, being more of a EU3 player (which I consider is much more... manageable than HoI3. I would like to like HoI3, but it's simply over my head), but I'll sure take Victoria II out for a spin. If nothing else to support Paradox for their utter awesomeness (in fact Paradox and Bohemia are my two favourite developers).

Ohhh! Got to love BIS! <gets the latest beta like.. NAO!> Finally we got cargo-commands!

Introduce Community Content Packs
Inkompetent replied to Xerxes-17's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
And this is how BIS usually work in my experience. They may incorporate smaller fixes by the community, but any larger works they do actually buy as far as I know, not to screw their fanbase by stealing the addons just because they can. -
Suggestions that would make Arma II / AO more popular
Inkompetent replied to polar bear's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Very well formulated Defunkt and Myke. We all want improvements to ArmA. The game still suffer from some problems since OFP: Cold War Rising that *could* be improved upon, and there are things to left and right that could become smoother. But as they say if BIS start to cater to all kinds of audiences they won't really please anyone, and ArmA is one of its kind. There are 13 games on a dozen for the other style of play. As for jumping (or well, vaulting) - yes. It could be made smoother with control assignment, but at the same time the current implementation prevents accidental use of something that's bound to get you killed if touched at the wrong moment, and that can be used anywhere without the (part of an) object being spefically tagged as climbable. At least we got vaulting in ArmA2! It didn't even exist before! -
no AH-64D Longbow with Air-to-Air Missiles?
Inkompetent replied to Moerderhoschi's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Guess it depends on the warzone. In neither ArmA2 or OA it is very reasonable for the Apache to get fitted with Stingers/Sidewinders since the likelyhood for A2A threats it can't completely out-dominate with its cannon (I.e. Mi-17s being the only likely enemy aircraft) is very, very low, thus it gets a balanced ground support loadout instead. For user-made scenarios though I do admit it can be needed, so good thing it already exists in the configs ^^ -
Beautiful bird! Really glad to see it back in business!

I must also say I am sorry for the development team of OFP: Menstruation Floods Their studio hired again for another version of the shit-project they did the last time, and I bet a lot of their crew is tearing their hair and chewing on their hats and socks and shoes in anguish and despair over their situation, just because their boss want to make more easy money. Poor devs :( -
You can enter any kind of age really as long as it is a legal age, and the date is (not supposed to be) saved. It's just like the ruler measuring your height at theme park attractions to see you ain't too short or tall to have a ride. However it protects them against lawsuits in the Happy Land of Sue Everyone You See For Any Reason You Can Make Up, Especially For Things You Are Only And Only Personally Responsible For If You Have Enough Common Sense To Breathe On Your Own (also called USA).

Units sold info .. keep hearing game not popular. Can't be.
Inkompetent replied to BeerHunter's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
According to the poll at http://www.bistudio.com/index.php?option=com_poll&task=results&id=19〈=en only (at the moment) 37.5% of the players spend most of their game-time in multiplayer. And even then we dunno how much game time that is, considering the overall high age of ArmA-players. At only about 2700 votes it is but an indication, but it still shows that multiplayer isn't the be-all that it is in CoD and Battlefield, and many spend loads of time in the editor and singleplayer. Many don't ever play multiplayer at all. For a game like ArmA I bet 1000 players online simultanously means at the very, very, very least 100.000 sold copies of the game. And even then I wouldn't be surprised if I'm too low by several hundred percent. -
Suggestions that would make Arma II / AO more popular
Inkompetent replied to polar bear's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
1 - Agreed that in some respects it needs to be more smooth. Like automatically switching between high ready and low ready when the weapon collides with walls, so that one actually can move and turn inside buildings. 2 - Better tutorials would indeed be nice. As I understood OA does that quite good though (although haven't played, so don't know first hand), and agreed that if nothing else the name in the key bindings menu might need to be more accurate/descriptive. Non the less, the vast majority of the key binds are already well described by their name. 3 - What do you think the bazillion beta patches, official patches, and continous patching even years after release are for? Duh. Reduntant request. 4 - Automatically and automatically. Agree though that addon management needs to be better. And BIS is already working on it. Redundant request. 5 - Disappear from these forums. Now. NOW. Achievements is the bane of all and everything that's good about this game series. Just attracts the ADHD-generation, and we do NOT want them to pollute our servers with their presence. They'll scare away the loyal customers. Even then it wouldn't work due to the free/editable nature of the game. 6 - Agreed that the default game could need some examples and framework for more action-based PvP missions. 99% of all missions played online are user-made though, so BIS shouldn't break too much of a sweat with this. On top of that missions are automatically downloaded when playing. Redundant request. 7 - Users are already doing this. Redundant request. 8 - The only regional problems afaik is the radio messages displayed in the chat when using in-game commands or spotting. Haven't heard anything else at least. First and foremost ArmA is too niched to attract very many players. And even then That guy is spot on with his post. Either they attract the ADHD COD-kids with the attention span of a gold fish, and alienate their 9-year loyal fans, or they keep their fans. ArmA can be improved - yes. But for the love of God, do NOT make it into something else.
