    Gun myths

Right. Me and my confuzzlization. The whole purpose of the SD's suppressor design is to let a normal round drop to subsonic speed before leaving the gun (i.e. the perforated barrel). One more reality-check managed! xD Wonder when I'm going to stop making a fool of myself around here... :P

    Head Bob...how many use?

20-25% somewhere. Enough for nice bobbing, but without becoming disorienting or nauseaiting.

    Gun myths

Some suppressed pistols, and the MP5SD-versions in particular, have extremely specialized and well made suppressors, and in combination with special, light-loaded subsonic ammunition can become incredibly silent - yes. A lot of the time you just put a suppressor on a weapon and use standard ammunition though (since the weapon needs either have a lighter bolt, weaker spring, or adjustable gas pressure - often a combination of the above - to be able to fire subsonic ammunition without jamming), which means it still goes bang. It just bangs differently, and a tiny bit more quiet. It's the 'different'-part that's important to conceal the shooter :)

New recoil, please make it go away

The new recoil is really good. It might not imitate real life recoil movement of the gun, but it does however reduce the rate of fire and accuracy of a shooter to something much more realistic, and through that simulates real life recoil/marksmanship. Instead of being able to shoot hole-in-hole at 400m with 30 shots we now have to make an effort to hit something at distance, and being prone (or having support in ACE) now really makes a difference. ArmA2 doesn't fully simulate the body and weapon movement when shooting (it misses several different animations for that, and that probably would have to blend with other existing animations), but this is a fantastic compromise.

I'm thinking of buying, got questions.

Just thought I'd chip in and answer the artillery-part as well, since it's the only thing not specifically replied to. As with all other things already mentioned this is a design decision. I haven't tried the new ballistic computer in the brand new 1.54 patch, but before that manual artillery gunnery gave you a sort of point-and-click map as gunner, but where you yourself will have to adjust for the elevation-difference between the target and your gun. Other than that there are several addons and scripts that offers much more realistic gunnery-systems, as well as very basic point-and-click artillery where you call in over radio and either AI-controlled guns fire, or scripts simulate artillery impacts. Suffice to say there are dozens of variations depending on mission and player :)

Already mailed the support, so we'll see how it works out :)

British Troops DLC released & Official 1.01 Update

Tried buying now from Sprocket, but for some reason I can't connect to their payment service, and my 'order' is already placed with VISA as payment method, so can't just go back and try with PayPal instead. Yay >.<

Arma 2,a game or a life?...

I want to remind people of the most fantastic anti-troll spray this forum has: http://forums.bistudio.com/profile.php?do=ignorelist
  10. Nah, it would just require a proper physics engine on top of the existing engines in the game. Easier said than done to incorporate one still though ^^

    Which Idea is best?

Then people will have to take the hit and shut up regardless. I don't hear black people, Central/South Americans, arabs of all kinds, Russians, ex-Soviets, Nazis/Germans, and a whole other world of people get depressed and cry like a failed Big Brother-actress in media just because they are shot at in every single western-produced game. :) I understand your point with that the motivation needs to be clear because of our lack of understanding for their take on the world and on being strictly invaded (most of us have never lived in a country getting invaded). But I still think people need to be understanding for westerners being shot at. Edit: And btw.. Rellikki for president! "All you say can and will be used against you." (at least when not thought through before writing. At all)

    Grenade interface suggestions

99% of the time someone does this you'll be too far down the max 3-5 second fuze time to do so without getting your hand and face blown to bits, so I question the usefulness of such implementation for that 1% of times you'd actually be able to throw it back without dying trying.

    Project RACS

The mod is done when it is done. If you want it released faster, help making it. Showing support is always nice, but the repeated begging for release when he's already working his ass off to finish it... =/

    Gun myths

Haha. Good one! And every single bit of it is correct. Part of why I *LOVE* the sounds of the suppressed weapons in OA. They still go 'bang'. Just not 'BANG'. Unless one uses suppressor AND subsonic ammunition guns still are loud. Just not as loud, and the suppressor effectively kills the highest frequencies of the gunshot-sound, making the sound distort faster over distance, making it very hard to judge from where the shot was fired (which is one of the reason some units of military snipers use suppressors).

    New Beta 72863 up!

Simple solution for those crashing when alt-tabbing, that reduces the crash-probability overall from first release of ArmA1 to current OA patch: Use the -window shortcut parameter. Speeds up alt-tabbing A LOT, reduces the crash probability even more, and with the right window size settings you've only lost like... 32 pixels vertically, no single pixel horizontally in screen space. I don't know one single existing fullscreen-game that doesn't crash if alt-tabbing in and out repeatedly, so hardly anything unique for ArmA :)
  16. I hope you are not going to give it a chance by paying for it. At least not until after a month or so of judging it from forum posts and user reviews <.<
  17. Agree with CarlGustaffa. Such a change would break pretty much every single existing script that performs magazine-checks and would necessitate a revamp of quite a few addons and other mission scripts. It would indeed be nice with an improved system for this, so that the magazine state of a weapon is stored within the weapon object itself, for example if a surrendering soldier drops just the weapon or if we get a bit modified 'looting' system where picking stuff up takes time, so one might only want the weapon and not additional magazines. In the end though this belongs more as an ArmA3 upgrade (one that I really hope comes), but within ArmA2 it'd cause more trouble than benefit.
  18. Well, agreed that keeping a grudge for ages and ages isn't the way to go, but on the other hand A LOT of people here are very nostalgic about Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis and Resistance, me included. They're our shiny memory of how it began, and many of us still play the game today because it in some regards are better than ArmA and ArmA2, and caressing our nostalgia never hurts! It's just the same as people spitting on all new Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon games since they too have raped the franchise into unrecognizeability. They might be good games, but they are sure as *beep* not anywhere close in style to the old ones.

    DLC - Canadian Forces

So what? There's not a single country in the world not using imported weapons, vehicles or tech in their military. I'd even dare say that most countries buy their stuff from other countries, possibly with deals including licenses for local production. And I personally can't see very much French, Belgian, German, Swiss, Austrian or South African representation in the game aside from a handful of items, so what's the harm in adding more?

    Military Humor

True. True. One still won't be prepared. But hopefully BETTER prepared. :) Non the less, humour it is, even if it is done for real. Pity when humour plays with lifes though :( Oh, well. Politics and the practicers of it are tragicomical, so... :)

Still, boot camp is quite short. It's supposed to be the fire-test where you weed out the weak ones, and prepare the rest for what's to come. After boot camp is over and you get into specialist training one can make stuff more normal.

Why is this game not more popular?

Heh, yeah. Like BC2 might seem more polished. But there's just as many badly configed servers as in ArmA2. The coloured 'tags' on people are sometimes wrong (i.e. blue tag over an enemy), one often can't 'spot' things even though they are in plain sight, like a hovering helicopter 50m away, one can finish reloads even before reload animation is done by a quick switch to the pistol and then back to the primary weapon, for a long while stabbing people in the back with the knife had like a 75% failure rate - the stab wasn't ever registered by the server, the flying-controls are TERRIBAD on PC (although apparantly quite good on console), I suffer from flickering grass textures, ridicilous HDR effects on winter maps (I get practically blind if I use red-dot sights due to screen white-out), often invisible or very hard-to-see tank sights due to bloom effects, occasional crash-to-desktops, and that's just what is broken and not mentioning poor design decisions. I still like the game though, but even the so-called popular games are smack full of bugs ;)

    Military Humor

What the...? Is that for real? Isn't the whole purpose with old-school boot camp to fuse the squads together by collective punishment and joint effort? To brutalize the mind and endurance of the soldiers so that they are prepared to cope with battlefield-conditions? How will that kind of training help them prepare for several weeks at a time with little sleep and limited food, as actual war very well might cause (say if war with Iran would become actual)? Sure, to tone down the yelling is one thing. One should be able to make soldiers comply without constant yelling. But to soften friggin everything is like intentionally making the military worse. If USA is having such troubles with 'expensive soldiers' (i.e. high training costs per soldier), wouldn't it be like... smarter to make them good as well, so that you get value for the money, instead of sending even more of them home in body bags, or with cronic injuries?
