How do you implement "optional gear"?
InRange replied to InRange's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Allright, thanks man. -
In some missions you have the ability to choose a different weapon in the 'gear' section of the briefing. How do you implement this in your own custom mission?
-
77. You call your friends by numbers and when walking down the street you say "All, form wedge"
-
Yeah, but at least the pilot is protected. That way, should the plane get hit by anything, he'd have a better chance of survival.
-
"2002 EM7 could hit earth in 2093" Err...let's see...I'll be 111 years old by then. Hmmm..
-
*gets a magnifying glass* It looks like a holster, but it seems to be part of the character's skin. Only for looks I guess.
-
The only differences between the various "AK" guns are the way they look I think. AK47: we all know how it looks. AK74: Kinda looks like AK47 only with a longer muzzle and thus probably better accuracy AK74 SU: short version of AK74, probably less accurate AK47 CZ: Czeckoslovakian version of the AK47. Looks different (slighty darker color and different shape). I guess it's about as accurate as a standard AK47.

'operation flashpoint: resistance' - details & scr

*tears of joy well up in his eyes* Oh...look at those big towns...wouldn't you just love to have street-fighting going on there? -
Sure, I believe all that but I was talking about an A-10 and not a chopper If A-10's are supposed to be protected from 30mm rounds, how can you destroy one with a machine gun on a tank?

Take a look in General Guba's house on Kolgujev for example. It's the interaction with the furniture that's a bit of a problem sometimes

Well, you did have a Civil War, didn't you? And the frenchies made your statue of Liberty. But I won't diss the Americans since if it hadn't been for them we would be either a permanent part of the Third Reich or some province in the Soviet Union.

a suggestion to implement a new command
InRange replied to shadow's topic in OFP : MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Okay, but if they could at least make the option of using this command available players could decide for them selves whther they want to use it or not -
Tanks sometimes shoot me down with their machine gun. Now that can't be realistic.
-
Yeah, the tanks look really great. The clouds of dust, the exhaust fumes, realistic suspension...I ran for my life the first time I saw them. I thought my character was having a heart attack
-
*shrugs* I actualy think the action menu is a really good feature. The houses do annoy me sometimes, though. One moment, you're hiding from an army of Russians at the second floor of a house and suddenly you step through the walls into the enemy's hands. Also, why can't you shoot through the glass in the 'pub-like' houses?
-
...when you report to the enemy commander
-
Okay, but in fact it was given to them after pressure from Jewish -!- terrorists. I saw that in a documentary and recall reading about it as well.

a suggestion to implement a new command

Hey, great idea. Imagine killing a Ruskie, stealing his clothes, infiltrating his base and blowing it up! Add my vote. -
Well, I'm just really curious about Doom 3 and waiting for GTA 3 to appear on the PC.
-
I'm not an anti-semite or anything but Israel itself was given to the Jews by the English after pressure from Jewish terrorists. Before that, England had stolen it from the Palestinians. The point that I'm trying to make is, how would you feel if your land was stolen by colonialists and then given to somebody else?
-
First of all, I think room temperature water is good enough for the prisoners. But you have to at least treat them with a bit of decency. These guys were only fighting for their country and for what they believe is right. But of course, a terrorist act such as what happened today can not be justified.

Well, my first kill wasn't that special since it was just the poor lonely Russian in Ambush. Anyways, some great moments. One of my finest gaming experiences was in that mission when you join the Resistance and go to their base by truck (I can't remember what it's called). Anyways, we made it through the first checkpoint so I carefully drove the truck to the second one. Then, I heard the guy next to me say something like 'there's a problem' and all of a sudden all hell breaks loose. The guy yells at us to get out of the truck. So I get out and immediately bullets start hitting the truck left and right of me. I take a quick run to the other side of the truck, aim at the officer and kill him. My Resistance mates finished the guy next to him. Then, the Resistance leader commands us to go to the woods on the steep slopes next to the road. More Russian soldiers appear and everybody gets down to try and shoot them. Comrades get shot next to me and we move on into the woods and up the hill, bullets whizzing past us. Then, "12 o'clock enemy soldier, 50". I look through my sights and see uniforms flashing through the trees in in front of me. I move to a better position and blast away. I grab some AK74 mags off a dead soldier and move to the top of the hill where a couple of Russians are waiting. Then, we move on and end up in the cool Resistance castle. All in all, the action, the scenery, it was very nice indeed.

OFP really got to me when at the end of the demo you had to run for your life because T72's were coming after you. That and the detailed towns and the ability to enter any vehicle you come across.

Still, I think one of the major differences between games and real life is this: In a real war, you fear for your life. In a game, your main fear is that you have to play the mission all over again when you die. In real life there is no second chance.
