Be patient people. Let them take their time. Remember, the more time they take the more bugs they can fix. Remember how buggy OPF was? What if they took their time to test and eliminate all of them before releasing it. That way we won't have a hundred people posting on the forums the day it comes out complaining that the game doesn't work.

If you are not talking about the mod or this mission from a game perspective, then why are you even talking at all? Huh? The whole point of this thread is about a campaign, not real life.

Hi tech isn't everything Baron. Think about this, The US has incredibly hi tech and powerful satelites and drones that can see the licence plate on a car from outer space, but how did we catch Saddam? Not using any satellites. But by laying in wait for tips and "sightings" to come in and slow methodical "stalking". Technology only does so much. Even when you know how to use it. You need manpower to win a guerilla war.

I am a strong Bush supporter, but I DO NOT LIKE THE SOUND OF THIS. VERY unsettling if you ask me. Â Â I think we should stay put right here on earth. No need to waste time looking around space. Â What the hell is in space anyways? Â What's the point? Other than for military applications, I see no reason to be in space.

Ok, I guess I will have to do that. But it sounds complicated. Can you write a small walk through for me to follow? I don't want to delete all my user settings or mess anything up. This is a sort of last resort. All my old scores will be down the drains. Thanx

I want to see who wins this.
-
Baron, you should go back and read Pathy's last post.

I just saw that. Disgusting is not a strong enough word. These magazine people have no honor and no respect. People like these do not deserve comraderie and love from fellow human beings. That is the sickest thing to use as ad material. The absolutly most vile and saddest aspect of warfare and humanity, and they use it for ad material to promote a game. They should be forced to suffer through a war and then return to see someone making an ad using pictures of them. Only then will people like these understand the grave insult they made using pictures of these Russian soldiers.

Gollum, sure OPF2 shouln't be restricted to a jungle guerilla campaign. You want more variety and all that. That is why I meant for it to be used just as 1 of the 3 campaigns. There's your variety. The other 2 can be big nation war campaigns like US v Russia or China. 1 of the 3 campaigns can be this drug guerilla war one. 3 completely different environments. 1 of them being a jungle one. I'm sure that is the reason BIS even wants to use 3 campaigns in the 1st place. For completely different time and scenery in each one.

In Windows, right-click on your saved campaign 1985.pbo file and select PROPERTIES. If the READ-ONLY attribute is checked, uncheck it and click OK. Presto! Tried that, it was already unchecked when I got there.

Ok, so how do I find out if that happened to MY files? I hope not. I got all that way up to Recon.
-
Darn it. I did the cheat willing to accept the price. So I got to Killdozer, and you know what? It did it again. The thing that it did exactly? My killdozer placing in my campaign book is listed only as a "continuation" of my Recon mission. Even stranger, when I was playing Killdozer, it said my name was Gastovski, and my weapons selection was exactly the same that I picked in the Recon mission. An MP5 and just 2 magazines, that's all. Plus, I only had 2 teammates listed, both with the same weapons I gave to my 2 black ops in my last mission, recon. They even had the same names, Bobby Bruning, and whatever. To add another point, I don't know if this is important, but maybe someone can test this. I recently reformatted my Hard drive. Not before saving my "User" folder in my OPF folder to a writable CD. When I reinstalled OPF, I started off playing a quick singleplayer mission like steal the car just to create my user folder in the OPF folder, and then I just took the User folder from my CD and put it in the place of the new one. That is where I left off. What I saved onto the CD before I reformatted my hard drive was my game up to just after starting Recon.

Thanks, its good to be back here playing OPF again I checked, I have version 1.90 I got the GOTY edition, and the only patches I downloaded since it's installation was the 1.90 patch. I don't know if that tells you anything.

Ok, after not playing this game after like 10 months, I turn on the game and start playing again after the last mission where I left off. I was on the mission "Recon", and just completed it. Well, after I beat the mission recon, it moved me on to the next mission. I started the next mission, some tank mission and decided to end it before I really did anything in it and go to bed instead. So when I exited the mission, I noticed in my campaign book that it said Recon was the last mission that I was on, with the pic of the Black Op, and after that there was a "continue" link with the picture of Col Blake with the jeep. No picture of my new tank mission name. I thought that was odd. So I tried to play the new mission by clicking on "continue" and it put me back where I was in the middle of the mission. Not at the briefing or at the beginning even! Boy I was PISSED! I didn't even want to play that mission at the time. I just finished up Recon and wanted to go to bed. So now I tried it again today, and this time I tried everything to make it go back, by hitting retry and all that. I could start over, but not at the breifing, and eventually the game automatically deleted that mission entirely and now I have to replay "Recon" in order to do it again. Now I am REALLY PISSED! It has never done this before and it is enough to make me ... well, I am not going to delete this game just yet. But I am mad! I was so relieved when I finished Recon without firing a shot. It is a unique and fun mission, but I DO NOT want to have to play it over at the time. I just want to finish up the campaign and start on Red Hammer. I have not even started Resistence yet! Can someone please tell me what is wrong? I have version 1.90 I think. thanks
-
I could try that, but I don't want the game to do it again. What happened? And if I tried the end mission cheat, how would it end? Will I have lost a man? Are there any consequences to using it?

Hey Pathy, what you described and the way you described it was EXACTLY what I had in mind. "Dirty little forgotten wars that noone is meant to know about". As for what you said about the idea coming to you in the shower. Hehe, I get lots of great ideas in the shower. In fact many people do. It's kind of a phenomenon as to how some people feel very inspired and come up with brilliant ideas while in the shower. It happens to me so often that I have even considered keeping a pen and pad of paper in the shower to write down ideas. Only if there was a way to get past the whole "wetness" factor. Anyhow, I think I have articulated well enough what I would hope to see in such a "drug war" campaign. I don't see why BIS would avoid it if they are willing to do a "Resistance" type campaign. Resistence arn't even a real military army. It's a guerilla militia.

By the way, doesn't anyone find it interesting that the name of the mission where you capture Guba was called Red Dawn when the Operation that was intended to and successfully caught Saddam Hussein was also called Red Dawn?
-
How the heck did you get as far as "Red Dawn" without learning to fly choppers?? Anyways, I never use the choppers in that mission. To me, that mission is a perfect example of a "quick and dirty" spec op mission. Â You gotta be able to plan and act fast. What I did was I immediately grabbed 3 or 4 of my men all armed with RPG's. Â We jumped into the Hummvee, and raced up north east to a point on the main road to intercept GUBAs jeep. We parked the hummer behind a patch of woods as to not attract any attention with it. Â I had my men take out the nearby enemy tanks and then quickly hide on the hill top. Â I waited prone on a nearby hill and watched. As Guba's car appeared in the distance, I waited until it came close enough. Â When it did, I started shooting at it with my MP-5. Â Make sure you aim low as to hit the doors and tires. Â You just want to make them stop, not kill anyone inside. Â You don't want to risk killing Guba. When the car stops a few spetznats jump out. Â Kill them immediately. Â When they are all dead, get up and snatch Guba, he will be defensless. When you have him, he will tell you something. Afterwards get you, and all your men, and Guba back in the Hummer and race back to base. Â Drop your men and Guba off with the rest of your men, who will all gaurd Guba. Then jump into the little jeep there and race all the way up to find your second objective. Â Â Destroy it, and then hide in the woods nearby and wait for it all to end.

SpecOp, as for your comment, yes, the US military has definitely taken guerilla action against drug cartels in South America. Â That is what I was refering to about the war on drugs. Â And Gollum, it WOULD be balanced. Â Remember our forces fighting the drug lords and guerilla militias were primarily Special Forces groups. Â They would do raids and the such. Â I also remember reading about the US using Cobra and Apache choppers to attack enemy forces there. It was one of our "dirty little wars" down there, no tanks, no artillery. Â Just a ton of Special Forces leading groups of resistence fighters in a dirty "unofficial" war down in South America. Â I believe Special Forces also trained, and worked with the various South American governments to help in the fight against these guerillas and drug cartels, who were often more powerful than even the governments down there. Tell me that this does not sound like a promising premise for a campaign. Â Cmon, it is just loaded with possibility.

My favorite official weapon is the AK74. It has all the same accuracy and power of the M-16, but also has fully automatic capabilities. Which is the most versatile part of the AK. You can use it to fire suppressive fire, use it to spray a group of rushing enemies, you can lead up to a target with it, or just in general "shape your stream of fire" to direct and cut off enemy units. I have no favorite unofficial weapons considering I have never downloaded an unofficial mod or mission or anything else "unofficial". The only unofficial mission I have ever downloaded was Aculauds Sniper mission.
-
You're not getting me Freidchicken, the U.S. has in the past used Special Operations Units to combat the drug cartels in South America. I am suggesting 1 of the 3 campaigns in OPF2 be completely a guerrilla warfare one that utilized US Army Special Forces. That would be a unique change. Instead of fighting states or military forces, you would be combating drug lords, and various other players in the South American drug cartels. It would be a "dirty uncoventional" campaign. Or as for my 2nd idea, : A US campaign against Cuba. I think that is a new idea, definitely different from all these "Nam" ideas, or another cold war campaign, or something like that. Personally I think they should do ANYTHING except for another Cold War campaign. They've already done that exceptionally well in CWC, Red Hammer, and Resistence. No need to do it again. Cmon now, no more Soviets. Some other Nation.

AbjectCoward, I don't know why you did all that. Once you took out the SCUD, all you had to do then was leave and it would be all over. All I did was sneak in with just my AT man, we got all the way til we could see the SCUD. We were still unnoticed, then I had my man take out the Scud and then were ran the hell out of there. Unfortunately my AT man didn't make it.
