Interesting discussion here, I thought I'd add my experiences (you got me thinking, AngusHeaf). I'm currently in charge of two public servers running on GAME.net, and bookable servers too. The game had always had a lack of public servers in the UK, and I was very pleased when Barrysworld (as GAME.net was known at the time) put these up. I've had a few problems along the way. There is a huge range of unofficial addons available, and they add a lot to the game, certainly in terms of keeping my interest. Kegety's Winter maps have always been favourites of mine. But getting addons onto a public server has always been tricky, and I was worried I would end up with a busy server for regulars, and a quieter server for newer players. Being able to download the addons on the fly, as is done with missions, would have been a very nice touch. What I do is make up a bi-monthly pack of addons for that time, which has worked well. The fact that the servers are pay-to-play has helped, as people get directed to our IRC channel and the website before they venture onto the servers. Pay-to-play has been a little weird (I know, this is a little off-topic, but I have a point), but Operation Flashpoint has been a far greater success than more traditional multiplayer games such as Counterstrike. I think the lack of public servers in the UK (more have appeared in the last few months, I admit), and the lower number of players required for a good coop game, do help a lot with that. So Operation Flashpoint is very much alive, or at least, it is for me.

There is a dropdown box at the bottom of the save dialog...you have a choice between .bmp and whatever the image already is. Though I'd go with Phoenix as a browser (link on the Mozilla front page)

One problem...you can't create energy, only convert it from one form to another.

Underneath all the key assignments, there is a box for "Primary Mouse Button". Change that, and you should be able to assign left mouse button, and right mouse button will be unassignable (I think).

The gameplay is very linear, if there are side-paths, they are pretty unobvious, and I'm normally one for finding out any possible way to play a game. Its pretty good, runs sweet on my XP2000+ with GF4 Ti4200, but its far too short for the price, I finished it the day after I got it, and it only took that long because my motherboard died and needed some major fixing.

I had problems with Teamspeak 2 causing my PC to blue-screen. Upping the process priority within Teamspeak has solved problems that anyone I know has had. I'd recommend it over any other program.

The restart is just your PC automagically skipping over a blue screen of death. Try what I suggested and at least you'll get to see the error message.

Try this. (I'm assuming Win2k or Win Xp) <ul> [*]Open Control Panel [*]Choose System [*]Click on Advanced Tab [*]Choose Startup and Recovery Settings [*]Untick Automatically Restart [*]OK > Apply > OK when this problem occurs again it will give you a nice Blue Screen Of Death with a long Stop Code at/near the bottom. Make a note of this and either Google Itâ„¢ or post back here

I think, as has been said already, that more people are good than bad. Then again, we all have our own viewpoint of what is good and what is bad, based on how we were raised and on our other beliefs. Religion was mentioned...once upon a time, it was seen as a way to control the people...life is crap, but if you shut up and get on with it, everything will be good in the afterlife. Some churches evolved into very rich organisations, who have had a lot of political power, and enough believers that they can dictate what the society believes is good and what is bad. I'm not going to comment on any specific religions, since I'm slightly biased (yes Avon, I wasn't just making up the fact I'm a minister ).

Roll up a few smokes, have a bit of banter with the players on Teamspeak, and hassle people on IRC to join the server soon. Is that not what everyone does though? I feel pretty boring.

Out of my regular players, we have just one lady, though she is scarey with a LAW in her hands, and a couple of irregulars including one of my exes (who funnily enough persuaded me to dig out my dust-covered copy of Flashpoint 18 months ago and give it another try). Edit :// and the reason she does not play regularly is because she spends 3 hours a day playing CS, poor misguided girl.

Well, I can see pros and cons of the script. Its an option for the admin, and more options are always good. I always liked the way Action Halflife dealt with TKers. You have until the end of the round to type "forgivetk" to spare them, if not, they sit out the next round. Of course, when a round lasts 2 minutes, thats fine. When it can last 40 minutes, thats a little harsh. I think the script is one for the respawn missions only.

Either processor is more than enough to run anything on the market at the moment. Go for whatever the slowest Athlon XP at 333MHz FSB is (2600+?) and spend the difference on the graphics card and better RAM.

I have to say I've never tried. But I don't see why not. I'll try it over the weekend if I get a chance, see what happens. My connection isn't really fast enough for hosting games (and the fact I admin a couple of dedicated servers already means I haven't bothered), and for some reason my flatmates won't play FPS games against me. I think the fact I used to get paid to play CS, and they never really got into gaming until recently, might have something to do with that.

But DirectX-based games, as Kegety says, won't work. And Debian is good, but FreeBSD is the way and the light.
