Now they just need to work out a way to make me drink one pint of beer, rather than six, and I'll live to a healthy old age.

A handgun just doesn't cut it and you don't want to create a market for such things.<span id='postcolor'> Ok, we got way off point. The man who shot the two burgulars had an unlicensed, pump-action shotgun. That was all I said, but it got lost in the quote / counter-quote. I'm in Edinburgh myself. And I don't have time to keep up with this thread (actually trying to get some work done), but I go with denoir's point of view. Why should I have a gun, or society be armed? And I'm one of lifes brighter pennies. I wouldn't want some of my neighbours having guns. I have chosen to live in a civilsed society, and part of that choice is that I give up defending my property, and allow a paid police force to do the work for me. I'm happy with the current status quo in the UK, where the police have arms available if they are needed. The debabte should be "Should the UK police be armed as standard?" to which I think no.

Remember how this combines with the DMCA, so attempting to circumvent it is a crime too. I think I can see why Microsoft are right in favour of this, no more piracy (well, ok, less), and most hardware will only run trusted applications (i.e. certainly not Open Source).

Heh, its cool. To go back to your point (which is a teeny bit off-topic), most rural areas with horses have a vet nearby. I'm assuming you don't live in the UK, its just a tiny little island. If you do, well, I was a country boy once upon a time, so I think I can get away with this.

You can have one on a farm due to the fact they're almost neccesary for putting down a horse humanely when you have to.<span id='postcolor'> Pump-actions are. Its double-barrel or nothing. Edit : And for putting down a horse, you do not use a shotgun. A vet has a special device, which uses a charge to propel a spike, which doesn't fully leave the device as much as go far enough and stop.

He encountered them one dark night and shot them both - likely out of fear, I certainly would have been scared of two intruders, in my property at night.<span id='postcolor'> The old man was paranoid, and slept with his shotgun. He fired on the intruders while they were climbing out of his window, and therefore not threatening him. Remember how illegal pump-action shotguns are in the UK. On top of that, he had been official warned about threatening behaviour, and had stated he wanted someone to break in so he could shoot them. Don't forget he killed one of them either. Self-defense laws in the UK are pretty tight, it is true. If you are attacked, you are allowed to defend yourself with anything you have to hand. However, you cannot run away, get a weapon, and return. That isn't self-defense. But I prefer things that way. You will get extreme cases like you mentioned (give me some evedence on the sword thing and I'll consider it), but I could use all sorts of tales about the US that go the opposite way.

Introduce a gun to a criminal act, and you raise not only the jail time, but the likelyhood of getting shot (by armed police). If you arm the police, then you may find the criminals arm up to counter the face that they are always facing guns. And Avon, I was concerned with the supply of some fragrant herbs. Crime in the UK is pretty low, and gun crime is very low. I live in Scotland, and I have a very dubious past, but have only encountered a handgun once in that. And I was post office clerk at the business end of two armed robberies, neither of which turned out to have been with live guns. Armed muggings are again something that doesn't happen up here. Knives maybe, guns no. They cost more than you'd get from the deed. Police numbers...I think they are a bit short-staffed, especially in rural areas. If you see police on the beat, it normally means there has been an incident in the area not long ago. On patrol, they carry pepper spray and side-handled exending batons. Normally areas will have a single armed-response vehicle out on patrol at any time. I wouldn't feel too comfortable if the police had guns. Currently if a plice officer in the UK has a gun, it will only be drawn if he thinks you have a weapon, and if he shoots, it is to kill. Since the only police who are armed have a lot of additional training, and are the brightest picks from the force, I'd OK with the idea of them being armed, but for your basic officer on patrol, I'd feel nervous about it all.

You could try what I suggested in page 2 of this thread. Certainly works for a few people.

With a bit of digging, I give you...Audigy2 drivers working with SB Live! and Audigy. Thread where I found the info. Audigy2 Driver CD Compatibility patch for Live! and Audigy1 Apparently solves a lot of issues, including Teamspeak crackling, might solve those static bugs too. Of course, if you try this, its on your own head.

There have only been two games I'm still playing, so I guess they will have to go into my games of the year...Battlefield 1942 and Operation Flashpoint : Resistance. I've bought a lot of games, but no single-player game has managed to keep my attention for more than two days. I guess thats just me and my lack of attention span.

I think you'd be able to run higher texture detail / LOD, since if I put mine to high, I end up stuck in my swap file, listening to my HDD chug and not much else happen Thats with 512MB of RAM.

I think he just got a faulty card, but he didn't ever try to send it back. Just to try and keep this on-topic, I've always thought reducing your AGPx* was just covering a problem which is still there, as well as meaning you don't get the full bang out of your card.

I had a similar problem, and the cure was (probably a very messy way, but hey, I aim for results) to enter the DNS servers in my network settings or reboot the router. Obviously, I went for option A in the end.
