  1. I seem to be having problem with Fraps.

Whenever I hit the screenshot taking key or the video hotkey I just get a black image. I get sound in the video but no picture?

Not sure what the problem is?

  3. Where do people keep getting the idea that tank battles are huge affairs where hit after hit is scored but the tank keeps going?

The first one to hit wins, It's that simple.

The difference between vehicles is mainly if the crew is alive after a hit or not and if the vehicle can be repared.

Probably because M1A1's and Challengers were hit a number of times on the front glacis and avoided any significant damage.

  4. Have they fixed the TOW Missiles so you can guide them ala that wonderful mod some chap did (sorry forget his name)?

You are referring to sa8gecko (from MCAR)?

And no, the TOWs are still unguidable.

    Thanks for checking!

One lives in hope because at the moment they are bloody useless. confused_o.gif

  5. The picture in the original post looks realistic. Assuming that

the SLA forces are Soviet/Russian trained what style would

their face painted camouflage actually likely be? I don't recall

seeing pictures of any Eastern bloc troops with face paint

    on.

Is the modern warpaint resistant to water and sweat?

Our stuff was dark-brown coloured only. It came in a green

rubber bag thing like a balloon. You got a splat squeezed into

your hand and just globbed it on - in theory covering the

highlights on your fizzog. Ten minutes after you'd applied it,

it had inevitably run in streaks making your section look like a

warry version of Kiss. It gave us horrible spots too (or was

that just because of our burgeoning hormones)?

No spots were a real problem. After two weeks wet shaving with a razor would be sure to slice half a dozen zits off your face.

  6. Dunno about the 5.56mm but I carry in the squalid junk-

room that is my memory the fact that British L2A2 7.62mm

ball rounds (nb. "ball", not "armour piercing") for the SLR and

GPMG (ie. much the same as the ammo used in the M240)

would completely penetrate about 40 inches of stacked pine

boards, or c. 2 inches of concrete, or c. 8 inches of cinder

block at 200m. Penetration in fact, and possibly surprisingly,

increased with range up to a limit, although I cannot off-hand

remember what the optimum was; I seem to remember that

it was 300m or so (but i may be mistaken in that last bit).

I once saw a GPMG demolish a brick wall in a demo, and

there were also occasions when 7.62mm ball rounds fired

from SLRs went right through houses in N. Ireland (in and

    out through two brick walls).

I am wondering if you saw the same demo video as I did?

It was one in basic training where they taught you the facts about 'Actual' vs 'Hollywood' bullet penatration.

Remember the brick wall with the GPMG and the SLR 7.62mm going clean through a tree trunk.

  7. I still think it's swell that the gunner overrides maunal fire. From a distance in hover, the gunner have enough time to fire the rockets with some precision and when not at a distant hover, you just splash the target area with as many rockets possible anyway.

You can always order the pilot to eject if you want to do the shooting yourself.

I find it strange that you say it's 'swell' a Gunner can override the pilot when there is no evidence to suggest it has any positive benefit apart from operating the Gun and Hellfire?

You can but when even a single mm of screen movement  is magnified exponentially over a long distance the innacuracy becomes more apparent. Regardless of saturating attacks rockets still need to be aimed at a centre of mass to ensure some degree of effectivness.

I can understand what you guys are saying but would it not be better for the pilot to be able to switchand / or the Gunner could fire the 20mm / Hellfires seperately from the pilot as in the real aicraft?

'Making do' as you chaps seem to is all well and good but having the correct option would be far better IMO!

  8. "Weapons Free"

    Gunner on coms:

    "Weapons Free"

    Kind Regards walker

Being a former RAF pilot I would use Weapons Tight in a CAS situation. Weapons Free is seldom if ever used due to blue-on-blue possibilities.  wink_o.gif

  9. Bizarre how you have placed comms and teamwork into an issue that is more to do with accuracy and speed of weapons deployment?

Regardless of how fun teamwork is with the Cobra (and I love it) having the Gunner fire the rockets is far less effective than the pilot. Voice communication is delayed whilst making a rocket pass and the split second between laying down fire and ceasing fire is longer than pulling the trigger yourself once the pre-aiming mark is over the target.

You are missing the point and mixing fun with being combat effective. No matter how good comms is (and we work very well in MP being all former members of the Armed Forces) the rockets on Helo's are fired by the pilot.

  10. I never fly with an AI gunner because of problems like this... much easier (and quicker) to fire weps yourself.

No it's not an AI Gunner it's when you have a 'live player' in the Gunners seat.

He is great for firing the Guns and Hellfires. I have no problem with that. It's when you want to fire FFAR's he cannot judge where the impact point is therefore you have to shout fire on comms when your impact point is over the target.

Makes the FFAR's pretty useless in MP.
