Project Reality - WIP Discussion
hund replied to craig.turner's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Now, now calm down everyone. I think it is just a clash of cultures. Arma fanboiz are just used to being able to mess around with everything they get their hands on, so when someone says they can't do that they get a little upset, thats all. I am sure it will turn out alright for everyone. The fanboiz will take a look under the hood once they get the addons, but the integrity of the mod will stand, at least on the servers where it is needed the most. There will certainly be "bootleg" servers (I can't believe I'm using that term in arma) but they will be closed to all but a few select people of a gaming group/clan/whatever. -
Pro as always, Mr Variable.

Am I the only one that wants to see a ARMA III MMO?
hund replied to jasonbo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Join Date: Jun 17 2009 Posts: 404 (So friggin' what?) While an MMO would certainly be fun, I do think it is kinda out of the BIS scope, at least at this point in time. But as others have said, fans might make something similar. Switching from a open, modable format to a closed one (which I beieve is a necessity for MMOs) would not go over well with the community at large, however. We have to be realistic about these things. :D EDIT: I played the shit out of the original Planetside, which by all accounts would qualify as an MMO. It was great fun and the scope was vaster than even arma could portray. But in the end the moddability issue reared its ugly head. In arma, I can just whip up some replacements or do a mission if I think things are getting stale, but in Planetside we only got new content whenever Sony felt like releasing something. So in the long run for Hundy's heart, Arma takes all. They're talking about Planetside 2 now, so Hundy might be eating out soon... -
They don't die that fast, it's quite messy. Mostly they bleed out or drown/suffocate. Takes a little while. Anyway, we can sneak up on people in A2 and whack em with a pistol, that is fine by me. No need for a more elaborate sneaky system.
-
The SLA used a similar setup in A1, so it might just be a BIS invention. But yeah, the thing looks more like a bedroll or rolled-up poncho than a ruck of any kind, doesn't it? I'd say they are fine as is.

this addbackpack "cwr2_BackpackAmmo_US"; Not the same backpack, but it'll do.

http://www.enlisted.info/field-manuals/fm-7-8-infantry-rifle-platoon-and-squad.shtml Not quite what you're looking for but pretty close. From what little I know about squad tactics using MMGs instead of LMGs (having been a member of an army that uses the former), the big difference is in power ratio: In an LMG-supported squad you have two balanced teams (what we would call fire teams). In an MMG-supported squad you would have a manouver team (rifles) and a support team (with the MMG as the centerpiece). Your vietnam-era setup looks right on the money, and I don't think there is any reason to assume that they changed it much up until the arrival of the LMG (and with it fire teams). EDIT: I done gone and did some extra backpack definitions because I was bored: http://pastebin.com/R4pY0ZVR

The Zeus server for the release gaming party is up and running, so if any of you lads want to play some of the missions on a dedicated server, theres your chance. We will leave it up overnight. We are also scrambling to add some missions for the night, but since we don't really know how many folks are planning on showing up, it's is kinda like stabbing around in the dark ;D Should anyone wish to donate a mission for the gaming night, we would be much obliged.

Helluva video Mr. Kenworts produced there, swell job indeed!

He didn't say you should be punished for the blue on blue, but for the fact that you were rude enough to not even say "sorry 'bout that" afterwards.
-
Wait, if they call it Arma X what are we gonna do when Arma 10 comes out? Way to future-proof, duh :D Pudd'n and Dimebag are my heroes as well. They are kinda our version of Laurel and Hardy ... with wittering.

Hells, I'd bar Zipper from TS right now, just for the hell of it! :D

Did Arma2 makes you discriminate other FPS games?
hund replied to gunso's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
It's not so much that I look down on other games as it is that I can't help wondering how this effect or that could be implemented in arma, kinda like MacScottie said. So no, I don't discriminate against other games, but I do ltend to look at them through arma goggles. -
BLUFOR soldier models - are they inaccurate in some ways?
hund replied to spooky lynx's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
And to think they were only left behind in South Zagoria for a few days. Rough neighbourhood indeed! -
BLUFOR soldier models - are they inaccurate in some ways?
hund replied to spooky lynx's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
It's funny how I feel exactly the opposite: I really like the deltas and loathe the US army guys. Eye of the beholder and such nonsense, eh? I think I'll go retexture something ;D -
BLUFOR soldier models - are they inaccurate in some ways?
hund replied to spooky lynx's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
A lot of this does stem from the fact that retexturing is all people know how to do. If you look at the addons released for OFP and A1, it always starts off with lots of retextures because thats where people start their careers before a small number of them advance into making up variations and an even smalller number making entirely new content. The curious thing with A2 is that next to no-one has been advancing in the slightest, so we haven't seen the normal rate of progression in the community skill set. My theoretical culprit would be the lack of example MLODs like we had in A1 - those seemed to kick off the addon-making quite a bit, but still that doesn't explain the phenomenon entirely. As far as I know, we have lost quite a few creators over the years, and they just haven't been replaced. Also, the technical aspects involved in making addons have increased somewhat in difficulty throughout the series' lifespan, which might also deter some would-be addon makers. Lastly, we have been creating a really bad atmosphere for learning amongst ourselves, with bitter infighting and claims of larceny taking precedence over over the maintainance of a thriving creative assembly. Rant over. -
Happy birthday, old girl.

That wasn't really my point tho. But if the good general says that it will not be a childishly nationalistic tour de force based on perceived notions of loss and defamation on the Serbian side, I'll trust him. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Two wrongs don't make a right, mate ;D

Many thanks, Mr. Binkowski. My sentiments exactly.

Alright, it just sounded a bit one-sided when you talked about the FRY downed/damaged 140 NATO aircraft in the "heroic defence of Kosovo" (a slightly exagerated claim, by the way). If anything, the Yogoslav Wars were not one-sided - there were lots of facets, most of them ugly. It just made me worrisome that you were creating a tribute to Serbian Nationalism and not a even-handed treatment on a time where disasterous stupidity was on display from everyone involved, that's all. I guess all I am asking for is objectivity.

While I do like the idea of playing the game from a novel perspective, I also think that you should keep your personal political sentiments way the hell out of it. Portray the conflict by all means, but keep an open mind while doing so. Think "documentary", not "propaganda". Anyways, best of luck with the mod!

Interesting stats there, Mr. Sparks. Would it be reasonable to think that BIS is trying to lower that age bracket somewhat in order to bring more gamers into the fold? I guess that is the only way to go, since going for the elderly might not have the same yield. ;D Can't wait to see an example of the new animations at work!

Arma 2 Addon request thread
hund replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I kid, good sir. ;D In the last few weeks we have at at least three SF-like multicam addons, so I believe that front is now good and well covered.
