Oh that's what happened. I just thought the airfield was getting reinforced by a para commando battalion. I then proceeded to lay down and die.

Yeah good fun tonight, even though the scout team got into more trouble than we could handle when we accidentally set up an OP 100 meters away from a whole bloody airport security platoon. Never been happier to see that arty coming in

Ripping the stock arma models and ir light
hund replied to masamune's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I don't know how it's looked upon by the community but that's what I'm doing in a major way. I haven't got an ounce of 3d modelling skill in me, but grabbing stuff, putting it somewhere else and the retexturing it is kid's stuff - and it even looks somewhat cool. I suggest ya take a look at this place: http://www.aos.armaholic.eu/index.html -
How to make a stand-alone unit in ArmA
hund replied to JBâ„¢'s topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Right, I've been mulling this over and doing some tests for a while now. What are the up sides to doing a completely stand-alone addon? Shouldn't I be placing the files I alter in my PBO and then just keeping the ones I don't change in thier default BIS directories? Right now I have a 95.4 mb PBO with four guys inside, but in reality most of the stuff they use is just plain old BIS. As far as I've been able to determine, the only things that are changed are the p3d's, a few textures (well, most of them really) and the wounds. So if I just place those things in a PBO my file size drops to about 30-40 mb. Would that be a bad way of doing it, and if so, why? -
Alright, after 12 hours of looking at the damn config I found out that the name of the model has to be bisoldier for some reason. I then created subfolders for each model and called them all "bisoldier". It seems to work, and the dudes are bledding and all.
-
Yeah that might be a good plan. I found the FTP (not as easy as one might think) and got a few goodies from in there. My what wonderful stuff... The question still stands as to how one would have more than one model in a PBO, config-wise. The closest I've gotten resulted in a working guy (the first one in the config) and then a half-buried dude (who inherited from the first guy). Usually it just tells me that the member is already defined, though. It might be basic stuff, but configs and I really do not agree. Ah, alright - that would explain it. I got the pack from your forums snake. So I have to duck 'n weave and hope to hit Synide's FTP at the right time then?

How to make a stand-alone unit in ArmA
hund replied to JBâ„¢'s topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
It's not too long Youriberg. I started at rock bottom and it took me about three hours to get through it from start to finish. Another three hours of learning how to move and rotate stuff properly in O2PE and voila: http://imageshack.dk//viewimage.php?file=/imagesfree/BBy30576.jpg Try it out again dude. JB's tutorial is as straight-forward as they come, which is actually a rare thing in fan-produced documents. -
I tried out your tutorial JB. After about six hours (three of which were spent on the actual tutorial) I've gotten to this point: http://imageshack.dk//viewimage.php?file=/imagesfree/8pR35142.jpg It quite simple really - thanks for a great tutorial mate. However, I am still a complete noob when it comes to modding, so there are a few problems. For instance, is it possible to add sveral models into one config - 50 mb seems a bit much for one guy. Also, when I try the mass texture and material thing on any of Synides MLODs it only lists one texture (edinys.paa), so I've not been able to reproduce the tutorial on anything but the MLOD you provided. But anyway, thanks again for a well written and easy to follow tutorial, good work.

Might as well link the whole article, mightn't we? http://www.blackwaterusa.com/btw2005/articles/041805aar.html

Take a look at Mount and Blade. IMO the best medieval fighting game ever produced (well, the list ain't that long) and it might be good for some inspiration. EDIT: Forgot the link http://www.taleworlds.com/

For me it wasn't as much about if it would be the new Resistance or not - it was more about me handing over some cash to BIS so they might make ArmA 2 a bit better. So I bought it on release day, haven't played it at all since I don't play single-player and the servers I frequent aren't running it (yet). I'm a fanboy I know, and proud of it. From my perspective I have two options really, if I want to play my games: OFP2 and ArmA2. And Codies seem to well enough off economically, so I thought I could either go drinking for a night or spend a little dough on Queen's Gambit. This way at least I don't get the hang-over.

You're looking at a good two gig download, distributed over two files.
-
Guess I'm the only one having that bin download problem. And now it stalled. Back to square one... ...I getting mildly upset now  EDIT: And a good thing it is that it stalled on me. DL speeds are much better now. I'll stop panicking now then.
-
Well, I went ahead and got it through petergames since it's pretty hard to come by where I live. The first file download went great, a solid 239 kb/s. The second however is going at 6 kb/s! Super-speed my hiney. Well, 32 hours to go...

I agree, disposable weapons should be disposable. Realism for the win! It's been talked about since arma first came out and now we finally get it (though I do recall the UKF pack also having a similar effect included). Good job indeed, Inkompetent.
-
So, what exactly would happen if one went ahead and just placed the road objects manually? It is possible ands they do show up in Bulldozer, but would it work in game? would it lag? would it crash? I'm curious...

Alright, I did the following and it sorta worked: 1. Copy png2pacE and the dll thing from the texview folder to my layers folder. 2. right click on any ol' png file in my layers folder and select "run with", remembering to keep "always run with this prog" ticked. 3. Select png2pacE in my layers folder as the prog to run the png with. 4. Double-click every damn png in my layers folder, which opens a black screen briefly and makes an identical paa copy of the file. 7. Delete all my png files from the folder once im done, leaving only the converted paa files. 6. Go in V3 and all the textures are suddenly there. Â It's very manual but it seems to do the trick. I'll go replace my worn-out mouse and try fasad's way now...

I am indeed, long time no see! The problem it seems, is Vista... There doesn't seem to be any task bar at all in this god-forsaken operating system. If in doubt: Blame Vista!

He lost me at the right-click context menu. I simply cannot see that tools thing...

As for the thread size, yeah it might be defying its purpose a bit. Perhaps a solution would be to make an easy to follow step by step thread and then lock and sticky it, so newcomers could get the hang of it all easier.
