  1. This thread will be used to discuss the current OFP Combat Photography thread.  Any pictures you want to comment on, ask questions about, or praise the photographer, keep it out of the actual photo thread, and post it here.  Please link any pictures you are commenting on for the time being. I'd like to start off by saying I'm very pleased at the overall quality this has progressed to.  Starting off as just snapshots, and coming to these very fine tuned photos we have now is very impressive. thirtyg, Once again A hell of a job, really great pic you opened up page 56 with: Convoy rolls through the southern Tonal desert And on the humorous side of things, nice one Frenchman, you caught the Frenchies doing Riverdance on Patrol  :Dance!

US Army HMMWV program is dead.

They'll just drive 'em to Iran for about a decade :p

US Army HMMWV program is dead.

The HMMWV served it's purpose, but good on 'em for scratching it. They really need an updated service vehicle. The HMMWV started as a nice lightweight replacement for the jeep, but in Iraq and Afghanistan it's taken on the role of a medium armored vehicle. My HMMWV in Iraq has so much armor and electronics piled in it, I needed a running start on hills, and the engine cut out if I turned the wheel to hard. (Not the most fun experience to make a turn in Iraq and have your engine die, and the electronics sap the batter power so quickly you can't restart the engine) Of course, I had the worst HMMWV in the team haha. There's so many models, I think they changed some around with bigger engines and more powerful alternators to compensate, but it's a lot of jury rigging to keep upgrading a vehicle like the HMMWV. I do feel bad for the mechanics in all the services that are going to have to maintain these HMMWVs for the next decade while parts become less and less available. They phased out the LVS years ago and before I left the Marines a few months ago it was still in wide use. The MRAP is an improvement is an improvement as far as safety goes for soldiers and Marines, but a viable replacement vehicle that can handle the regular and small duties of a HMMWV would be a good investment by the U.S. Military. Whatever they decide to do to replace it though, I just hope it has more leg room and a turning radius better than the 25 feet or so the HMMWV had. I've never operated an MRAP, I've only been and looked inside one. They were just coming into wider service in Iraq when I was deployed there. I've also never been to Afghanistan, but I know the HMMWV was and is in need of an overhaul, or replacement.
  4. I was using Photoshop and CAD programs the other day, and if you've used these, chances are you've noticed how much layers can help. Â Impliment this to mission editing, and they could really help to keep some of that clutter to a minimum, and make mission editing more streamlined. If you don't know what I mean layers are just a means to view, or not to view, certain things (In OFP's case things like triggers and waypoints). Â Mid to finishing stages in mission editing can get really messy, there are triggers, waypoints and their radii, and units scattered all over. Â Adding layers would allow you to specifically view items of your choice, wethere it be triggers, units and waypoints, empty objects, ambient sounds, markers (Marker layer is done to some extent in current OFP), etc. The markers are a very good example of what I mean, if you want to see them, just click F6, if you don't, use a different toggle. What do you think? Would it help any of you other mission editors out?

    Happy 233rd Birthday Marines!

Because reflecting on your organization, sacrifices it's members have made, it's history, etc., isn't something to think about once every fifty years. Semper Fi.

Because the rules are a 600x100 pixels maximum for pics in your sig. Large images in signatures cause a bit of clutter on forums, as well as a strain on 56k users when multiple posters may have larger pics in their signature, in addition to whatever may be on that page. As far as why 100 pixel height was chosen as opposed to 50, 75, 99, 101, 150? Well, they had to pick something.

    Military Humor

Out at a field op a month ago, I'd been on an advance party and spent all day setting up camp. Â By 2200, we'd finished and I was going to rack out (Had been up since 0200 ish). Â My pack was not where I left it so I went around knocking on some of my bud's tents to see if they had it or stashed it somewhere. Harnu "Hey Mohnke, seen my pack?" Mohnke "Naw man" Next tent, Harnu "Hey Glass, seen my pack?" Glass "No, I haven't seen it, sorry" Next tent, Harnu "Hey Nick, seen my pack?" Nick (<-- Meatball, always lost in the sauce) "Naww, but I got mine! Â )

    Military Humor

I went to CIF last week (gear issue), and they didn't issue me a vest (flak). Their reason, it's on back order. And right now I might be leaving for Iraq within a month or two. I hope UPS makes a stop soon

    Hello from Iraq.

I love that weapon. I should be in Iraq within the year. I'm an engineer (heavy equipment operator) but hopefully can get on some convoys or something and get some more trigger time in with the 240.

    Urban Dead

http://www.urbandead.com I love zombies so you know I'll love this. It's a pretty boring game when you think about it, but if you can get into it I think it's more intresting than if you just take it at face value. It really reminded me of Nation States. Free, long term, and roleplay and discussion for anyone who likes that. Give it a shot, read the FAQ before you start (I wish I did...). The gample is pretty slow paced, but it explains the FAQ why you can only do so much at a time. It's pretty fun, and anyone who likes it, maybe we can try to band together within the city and declare some area's ours. Right now I'm hold up waiting for my AP (action points) to return. In a factory in Brooke Hills with a bunch of other humans. Ought to be safe here for a while. My character (Harr) You can create multiple characters, but they can't work together otherwise you'll get kicked off. Current "Safehouses" - Marshment Place Police Dept [76, 43]

    OFP and VBS1

Well what I got out of it was that his friend things a different game just payed BIS to make OFP and the codemasters paid them to release it. That doesn't make much more since than any other translation. Since we can't understand the topic, and our translations of his english to our english are failing, I'll close this and hopefully he'll take some time to rethink his post.

    Marine Corps Boot Camp

That's odd, most of the time that region gets sent to San Diego. The Chicagoland area and the southern end of the area east of the Mississippi river have been getting sent to the west coast. I had a few guys from as far as Arkansas in my platoon. A Sgt. from the recruiting office here even enlisted out of Louisiana and went west coast. That was six years ago but even still.

    Marine Corps Boot Camp

Well, if you notice that I am suddenly not locking a lot of threads soon, it's because I'm leaving to San Diego to begin my enlistment with the United States Marine Corps. I leave Sunday afternoon and fly to the Recruit Depot Monday evening. I figured I'd make a thread so when I get back I can tell you about the thoroughly unpleasant thirteen weeks of Marine Corps Boot Camp, and of course gloat that I'll be a U.S. Marine . Also to let you know that upon my temporary departure from the forums, 50 active members will be selected at random and IP banned from the board. And of course to adhere to forum standards. Feel free to ask or discuss anything about Military training, any stories some of you who have already trained and served in a branch of your countries military. Pereferably first hand knowledge, try not to tell stories about your friends friend, who had a third cousin, twice removed, who had some really outlandish story to tell about training.
