  1. Dude, put down the thesaurus and step away. I'm beginning to think this is more about you than the *game*. I hope the mods lock this thread because it accomplishes absolutely nothing.
  2. UPDATED 09/06/2010 Cleaned up the hint box a bit by separating some values. Added two new action menu items: Save Init Code - Copies to clipboard a preformatted line of code meant to be placed in the initialization of a unit/object Save Buffer - Copies to clipboard ALL of the entries you have saved using Save Position and Save Init Code. Fixed minor bug when module unloaded. 08/30/2010 Added more info to hint box. Added action menu item so you can save your current position to the clipboard. Fixed the return index values of the house position (thanks callihn.) Works with Arma2/OA/CO. Attn: Mission Makers. (note: this video is from the first version) <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SZm-K18cpc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SZm-K18cpc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Self explanatory :) To Use: - Install gzl_vhp.pbo to your mods folder and add it to your launch shortcut. - While in editor, use the module function to drop a GZL: Visual House Positions module on the map. No need to sync. - Preview the mission. - Move near a house and the position markers will be created - The hint box displays: Closest City/Town Distance to the City/Town Your current position ASL House Object ID House Model Name Total number of positions in the house Number of the position on which you are currently standing. While standing on the position you want, use the action menu to 'Save Position'. The information you see inthe hint box is then copied to the clipboard. Paste it into something before you save another position. When your mission is complete and/or ready to be distributed, remove the module from the map before packing it into a PBO. To use the info for placing units or weapons: Place the unit or object on the map near the building in which you want to place it. Preview the map and find your building position. Use the action menu and select Save Init Code. Suspend the preview and double click the unit you just placed. Put your cursor in the Initialization box and hit ctrl-v on your keyboard. (Thanks to Das Attorney for noting that nearestObject takes the ID as an argument! Learn something new everyday. Check out his post on page 4 for some more usage suggestions.) :) Note: The preformatted code is the bare minimum. You may need to add some additional commands to set the object correctly such as doStop for units so they won't wander away. When using this code make sure your units are near the location you want to place them. Arma will complain about performance impact of searching by object ID over large distances (> 500m). Note: The buffer accumulates all saves until you suspend the map. You can mix 'Save Position' and 'Save Init Code' if you want. When you dump the buffer it clears itself. Unfortunately I don't know of a way to format data using the arma clipboard command without using an external program so you'll have to parse or cut and paste your selections out of the resulting text string. It's output from an array so it is at least a comma separated list. Hope someone finds it useful. Feedback and suggestions for improvements are always welcome. Download @ Armaholic

    cant find on steam?

I can't seem to download it without paying again. I received an email with the code in it - but can't find how to apply the code to start the download!
  5. This is an addon called Director. It's a randomized and automated camera tool for simply watching battles or creating videos using your favorite video recording software. It also allows you to create your own camera scripts for use in missions (Intro/Outro). Beta 0.2 Released! Get it HERE. Please read the enclosed PDF for installation and usage instructions. More detailed instructions on using the new Create feature will be added later, but there should be enough to get you started messing around with it. Experiment! Change Log: Beta 0.2 • Updated Orbit Subject to work with fast moving vehicles. The speed of the orbit is still random so when it's fairly slow the effect may not be entirely apparent. • Fixed a bug with preload. • Fixed a bug with the dialog. • Tweaked some functions and scenes for better performance • Rearranged a few things on the main dialog • Added a More… button for future use (options and what-not) • Updated subject list to fix some issues. Bias slider is now ignored if the bias subjects do not exist in the subject list. • Fixed – Main dialog now only movable using the top of the dialog (click anywhere on or above the mission name) • Setting the scene length to 0 (zero) now means infinite length. To switch to a new scene, you will need to use the skip key. • All selections are now executed in real-time – this includes scene selection which previously only switched when the scene timed out or the skip key was hit. • Added a slight horizontal offset to the Fly By scene so the camera isn’t centered on the subject as it passes over. Most noticeable when men are the subject. • Added the ability to create movie scripts for mission intro and outro. This requires a separate windows application to capture the movie data so it can be saved to an SQF file. This will be included with the next release. It is written in C# and will require .NET 2.0 runtimes if you don’t already have them installed. Other notes: This is my first attempt at an addon so there are some intricacies of Arma scripting that seem to block my attempts at certain features. One of them being the HUD's and trying to get rid of them properly. showHUD doesn't work consistently and operates differently depending upon where it's placed (script, description.ext, config.cpp) so I'll have to get that sorted out. I've tried modifying some of the base classes to remove the HUDs but haven't had much success. I welcome comments, criticism and feature requests. The videos were recorded using FRAPS and Dxtory at a game resolution of 1280x720 so the dialog is smaller on higher resolutions. Watch on YouTube for HD. (recorded in FRAPS and Dxtory - some spots are 'jerky' ) <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTbjMDga-WM&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTbjMDga-WM&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_sLKETCgic&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_sLKETCgic&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
  6. Agreed. Up until I had that account disabled problem, Steam worked flawlessly. This is partly why I was so pissed when that happened. My issue is strictly with their poor support and has nothing to do with the software or distribution methods. It simply works. All that being said, I will still have second thoughts about buying future games from Steam.
  7. I've used Steam since they came into being. I've been a avid supporter of their service because it's easy and convenient. But something happened recently to change my attitude a bit. When I tried to logon the other night I was notified my account had been disabled. I checked my email to see if they sent me anything that might explain this. Nothing. So I followed the directions on their site to submit a support ticket (there is NO WAY to contact them via phone for immediate support.) While I waited for some response I searched for posts that might indicate what the issue was or what to expect from support. Turns out the average wait time for a response from support is 3 to 7 days!!! Unacceptable! To make a long story short, I can no longer recommend Steam based solely upon their HORRIBLE support. I did get the issue resolved after three days, but during that time I could not play any steam purchased games. Their response was that my account might have been hacked, but what bothered me MOST was that they never bothered to notify me and left it up to me to initiate the support fix. It's bothersome because they took the initiative to suspend my account - ostensibly to protect me from fraud - but didn't find it necessary to contact me when they did it. Steam is great for convenience but if you ever have a problem that requires support they fail miserably. If and when they can increase their level of support by providing a call center and longer support hours and commit themselves to quick turn around times, I might consider recommending them again. But as it stands now I cannot. Lastly, I originally purchased A2 and OA on Steam but ended up buying hard copies from the local store to avoid some of the issues these particular games had with Steam. I should note most other Steam games don't suffer from the same sorts of issues that A2/OA do/did.
  8. Google Ultimate Boot CD (or DVD) - lots of tools to fix these sorts of problems. Download it, burn it and boot from it. Sounds like your boot block got corrupted.
  9. Thanks for the video. I would have to say (not having played it) that they actually look much better to me. The only ones I can see that might be too fast is the weapon switch and even then it isn't too bad. The kneeling and such look perfect to me. That being said, I may change my mind once I test it, but I'll have to vote for a keeper with a possible small tweak in the future.

ARMA 2: OA beta build 77819

Yes. I have seen similar instances with opposing forces literally running side by side for a few seconds before one got shot. It was odd, but not really a problem IMHO.

ARMA 2: OA beta build 77777

Seriously? They RUINED that game with all the crafting and hats and duels and upgrades - it's so out of balance and fubar'd at this point it's not even funny.

    ARMA 2:OA beta patch 77750

I see this too, and I actually sort of like it. It seems to give more detail to the grass from a distance. I've already decided it's not distracting enough to be an issue for me.

    ARMA 2:OA beta patch 77750

There really needs to be a games industry award for "Most Dedicated Developer." BIS would win hands down every time. I've already bought ARMA2/OA twice - I may just have to find a way to get more money to these guys. I think I'll buy the BAF DLC - it's the only thing I don't have. Seriously these guys are the gold standard for game devs IMHO.

    OMG! Downloading now...
  16. It should work on any building that has positions. Either the buildings on Lingor don't have them or it's a bug. I'll try it myself on Lingor and let you know.

ARMA 2: OA beta build 77159

I agree. Played some PMC missions over the weekend and I was mighty impressed with the AI. Seemed much more realistic and I felt they were moving/reacting much better than I had ever seen before.

    Unknown death.

Despite all the discussion on whether or not to tell us who shot our player (I do like this feature), I wouldn't rule out a bug in this case. Remember that bug where you would die if in a vehicle driving down a hill? I had chalked that up to an unseen combatant too, but it turned out to be a bug.
  19. Was messing with the ACM in OA and needed the new faction names to control which units spawn. Here they are for anyone else that needs them: "BIS_TK" "BIS_TK_INS" "BIS_TK_CIV" "BIS_CIV_special" "BIS_US" "BIS_CZ" "BIS_GER" "BIS_TK_GUE" "BIS_UN"

What is the state of the game now?

State of the game? I do believe it's currently at the level of kick-ass.

    Predators Addon

You should be able to create your own using the editor, selecting Independent as the side and you should see the Predator units listed there. I think also that if you download the Lingor Island map that there are a few pre-made missions for the Predator/Lingor combo. Do a search in User Missions.

Sounds like you're giving up on it. If I misinterpreted that then please forgive me.

    Essential Tweaks & Mods?

Ya know, I've run into my share of bugs in the game, but I would never call it unstable. And I've also seen some sites that DO use ArmA for benchmarking performance. Anyhow, it sounds like your expectations haven't been met. Fair enough, but I have to say that anyone that gives up on ArmA2 after just a couple of days isn't really giving it a chance. It took me weeks to appreciate everything it has to offer. I will warn you ahead of time though, don't go and buy OA thinking it will adress your gripes. It won't.
