Buy Combined Ops and get ArmA2 and OA in one shot. It's cheap and is the best way to guarantee you can play on the majority of servers if you're interested in MP. If you can only get one, get OA.

On the contrary I think more people play SP than MP. SP has endless potential whether it comes from playing the numerous missions provided with the game or some of the excellent user made missions/campaigns. I played MP a couple of times when I first got the game, but found it took way too long to get into and enjoy the game. Switched to SP and played the hell out of Cipher SP (probably the best dynamic SP mission) and never looked back. As others have said, sometimes I just open the editor, plop down some units and modules and go at it. Yes the AI isn't perfect and looks awkward at times, but I think one gets over that fairly quickly after experiencing a few of the "OMG did that just happen?!" moments that result fromt he AI driven un-scripted nature of the game.

I don't think you need to be insulting. But I do wish people would stop recommending ACE to noobies. It's the worst thing a newcomer can do. The game is complex enoug in its vanilla form much less adding the complexity of ACE. I'm sure it's overwhelmed quite a few new players when they're told to jump from step 1 to step 100 right off the bat.

And with the release of the 500 series the 400's will continue to drop in price. I actually was intent on picking up the 460 too, but they didn't have the one I wanted so I grabbed the 470 instead. As for the person who thought there would be little performance difference doing the upgrade, I thought so too, but I was wrong. Now, there are times when the FPS still drops way low, but going from an average FPS in the 20's to one in the upper forties and fifties qualifies as a huge improvement to me.

I remember I learned the truth when my brother showed me the Charlie McCarthy Ventriloquist Doll sitting in my parent's closet. To this day I'm not sure if I'm more upset with myself for believing in Santa Claus or for wanting a Charlie McCarthy Ventriloquist Doll. :o

I tried this and all I get is the throwing animation twice with the actual throw occurring on the second animation. :(

Steam has been great for me for every game I have bought with the exception of ARMA2/OA. Even though I bought both from Steam, i eventually went an bought hardcopies due to some of the difficulty with the Steam version. I've only bought one of the DLC's and that was through Sprocket. I'll continue to use Steam for 99% of my gaming though as it works just fine for everything else.

@Coffeecat - Nvidia should pay you commission. This post prompted me to upgrade my card from a 260 to 470. It makes a HUGE difference. As a side bonus, while I was in the game messing around I decided to try the small map that came with PMC lite and I liked the look of it so much I bought the PMC DLC :D Gotta give BIS some love too! Merry Christmas to me!

There are certainly valid points on both sides of the topic, but I think the discussion itself is a dead end (I refer you to DWarden's subtle hint post.)

First of all there isn't a method to secure the mods that couldn't be broken by those determined to do it. Just like DRM that never works. My take on it is (and it'll probably piss some people off ) if a modder can't stand the fact that someone might use his/her work to either learn from or even take directly they probably shouldn't be modding. Yeah, sounds a bit harsh and I would feel differently if people were actually selling mods and making money on them. But IMHO modding is all about giving back to the community and to help BIS to make things better for everyone. If that can't be done with a spirit of giving then perhaps those people shouldn't be modding.

On my rig, disabling vsync helped this issue greatly. Of course, I can't play without vsync (I hate screen tearing) so I leave it on and deal with it.

Completely off topic, but in what country is 'whine' spelled 'whinge'. I've seen it an awful lot all over the net and best I can assume is the UK. Am I right?

To each his own. My performance isn't all that great but it's still good enough to allow me to enjoy the game. And I also don't hold out any realistic hope for dramatic performance increases. Ever. So I'll take an improvement of one of the most annoying and distracting graphics 'glitches' any day. :)
