Yeah I enjoyed the campaign, some pros and cons: + Overall nice camerawork and music + Very nice radio chatter in the last mission - Some very overlong shots in the campaign intro, especially when the Russians are moving into Saint Pierre. - The radio chatter was actually too much and all concentrated in the last mission. When I got the order to proceed without the leader I had already cleared the town and dropped all my ordnance, so I was left flying around waiting for Hoppy45 listening to myself saying 'rifle','rifle','pickle dropped' that I had already done five minutes ago, the talk about the downed leader took so long. I also destroyed the Flanker about the time I got the report that it was approaching Nogova, so I was again left listening to some thrilling dogfight narrative. - Nice addon use, but the ADATS was a completely unnecessary requirement as I barely glimpsed it at long range in the last mission, plus I would have used Footmunch's Su-27 instead of the Spetznaz mod, but that's just my preference. In short, the custom radio chatter could have been evened out between the missions, it greatly contributes to the atmosphere. Despite these few gripes it was a quality campaign, thanks for this Avon.

I was expecting to see the man himself But the tank is nice too.

List your addons!

Nice game Hawkins, we showed those Russian tanks who's the boss! A Finnish recon team races along the border to scout out enemy positions... FDF 1.3 Nice pics all, especially Lee!

it is. just like every other Wo2 game that wants to put down a film-like atmosphere. Yeah, it's always so frustrating that you get a "clear the town" objective in most FPSes and surprise surprise, it actually means 'kill every enemy you see along this closed pipe, aka. the main road through the town'. *sniff* I love OFP

JOHN's Winter island! (ardennes pack)

ofp.info pic I don't have a bridge there -
Black Hawk Down fails to give the full story, the uglier things are all cut out from the book that it is supposedly based on. Among other things, the TOW strike on the tribe leader meeting and regular harassment of civilians which was a major cause of Somali hostility, various ugly things that U.S soldiers do like destroy people's homes, shoot at everything that moves (hell I would too in that situation), kill civilians by mistake etc. The filmmakers show their lying face by not showing these things, the soldiers' actions are all quite understandable for the most part but apparently the makers are so ashamed of them or afraid what people might think if they know the truth that they are willing to distort the facts and history... On the other hand, they probably wouldn't have gotten U.S military support if they didn't. The book also gave a more Somali point of view, but not the film.

Installer... I still like it a lot, even though it's just alpha. Foy brings Call of Duty to mind and feels very real... -

Certainly not! I'm just asking the question, not trying to judge you or anything, I'm a bit undecided myself. You may disagree with it, but you must agree that it is certainly possible to value your country/ideals more than yourself, history is full of people who have sacrificed themselves for the 'greater good', wether that would be the defence of their country, way of life etc. That is actually an interesting question, I instinctively answer no because of the strong emotional ties and the debt of caring for me I owe my parents and so on, but rationally I also owe my nation and state a great deal for providing this safe society and way of life, education etc. etc. I must admit I don't have an answer for that, at least not now.edit: Patriotism is love of and willingness to sacrifice for your country, this doesn't have to mean waging war against other countries. Nationalism is the ugly side of patriotism, one of the most divisive forces in history, considering your nation above all others. Patriotism doesn't have to be aggressive.

I think discussing what one would do in each different combat and war situations just muddles the issue up. IMO the question 'would you die for your country?' that is being discussed here is a bit hyperbole, what it fundamentally asks is 'do you value your country more or less than your own life?', that is the real question. Note that the question itself doesn't mention war. Just my opinion, I don't think the thread starter had that in mind but that's my interpretation of it, the question can be interpreted in many ways of course...

It uses the standard 'stream of bullets' OFP shotgun system and not the real shotgun simulation. Nice gun though.

I think you have me confused with IceFire, my last post to DL was over two days ago and I have nothing to do with this 'selfish prick' line of discussion.

These laws and the whole government are subject to change by the decision makers and have been created by them in the first place, so I think simplifying 'the state' to 'decision makers' works quite well. On the contrary, in practice is where the difference is the most obvious. For an extreme example, the state in democratic countries has the power to declare war without consulting the nation first. If George W. Bush would declare war against Canada this instant out of spite, I bet there would be a difference between the will of the state and the nation. The president who declares war could have run for office on the very platform of being a pacifist, his image reflecting the nation as he is elected. He can then make decisions completely complying with the democratic process during his term which run totally against the nation's will and why they elected him. He can end the state of being a reflection of the nation, and isn't this often what states do? Politicians not fulfilling their promises is quite a common gripe. Of course, one may think that the reflection of the nation in this case was that it was easy to fool, not that it was pacifist? Still in response to your quote above, how can you not make a distinction between a state and nation? Continuing that logic, going against the state's decisions in a democratic system would without exception also mean betraying your nation. That would mean that the state represents the nation fully and does every decision according to their will, which is how it works in theory. Not in practice like you said, in practice the nation and state are very separate with different goals. It's the middle of the night here so let me know if I missed something in your posts and completely misunderstood you due to my sleepy stupor. Of course not. I hope you aren't talking to me Please don't type something up and quote it as if I had said it. I apologize, it's a habit I've picked up from another forum, just meant to be a bit humorous. Your post formatting is a bit messed up by the way...

the one from the marine assault pack ? No, this one.

i want to see this! that would be sweet I think it would actually come out as a stream of pellets with the OFP engine, not a simultaneous impact of pellets. Unless you use the system of that one shotgun addon which used a script to simulate a real shotgun effect. That script stuttered each time it fired on all but the best PCs, so I wonder how a script creating hundreds of pellets at once would work... I'm just speculating, expecting some script god to come in and call me ignorant and make a sweet addon of this...

Umm, the state is not the nation even in a democratic country, the state governs the nation and is separated from it, that's why we have elections every few years, to make sure the state still consists of popular decision-makers. And that's what they are, decision-makers, not decisions, and they can make decisions that disagree with the nation. They can well be separated both as definitions and actual persons. Of course not. I hope you aren't talking to me We are in agreement.

Yes, they have evolved to be perfect for one environment, this means they are not adaptable like us. Humans can survive in extremely hot and cold environments with their technology, and when everything reaches its end...us humans can leave for another planet.
