    Game Specs roughly stated

The Games lower end specs were mentioned in this interview http://www.ggmania.com/full.php3?show=5792 "We continue to optimise as much as possible even as we near the end of the developmental cycle, so at this point we're still not quite sure how much we will be able to achieve in the different areas of optimisation and thus what the required system specs will be, however it's fair to say that something in the region of 2GHz intel/AMD CPU, 512MB RAM, DX9 64mb graphics card is somewhere around the probable minimum spec. " I also note comments made in another interview I tracked down that indicated the game lagged with certain setups. It sounds like a 3GHz + will be the speed to aim for - mention was made of Havok Physics not Ageia as well. See this interview http://www.armed-assault-zone.com/news.php?readmore=45 "Not to come across as overly euphoric – Armed Assault leaves graphical beauties such as Oblivion far behind. The graphics display hills detailed generously with bushes and undergrowth showing an incredible amount of detail. Armed Assault also triumphs in other areas such as drawdistance. 10km is the target of the programmers for a computer in the 3Ghz class. With regards object density, the small homely villages of before have grown into small towns. In many missions, there are as many as 200 Infantry, Armour and helicopters - almost 2 million items. Animals, plants and people populate the level design. In the editor there are almost no boundaries. With the highest computing power there are nearly 500 participants. We have always envisioned ever more unreachable scenarios with advances in hardware requirements – Project director Viktor Bocan. The Star is the team The impressive extent of the battlefields forced the programmers to make further compromises particularly with the game physics. ‘We experimented with Havok physics. But when 50 tanks at the same time trample through the vegetation and are are simultaneously under fire, even the most high end computers cannot cope.’ Armed Assault applied a reworked version of the earlier system. Although all in all not comprehensively effective, it was completed and authentic. Thus we can assure ourselves – one of our two APCs that was coming in assistance ran right over a mine. Kaboom! The detonation blew the vehicle straight off the road where it came to a rest as a charred wreck. Time for us to try one of the new features – soldier switching. Unlike its predecessor, there are no heroes in Armed Assault. Instead you take control of nameless soldiers whom you must guide safely through the dangers." As a last point ive noticed ATI surpassing Nvidia in regards to shading - textures in dense bush - forest terrain as per tests done on Call of Duty 2 with the latest high end cards. Many could debate this. But im not here to debate just to make sure you all buy a new GPU wisely for AA. Depending on technology used in AA an ATI card with its shading etc may be a better choice than Nvidia's latest cards. Id be comparing the two when looking to play AA, with all the visible trees etc. I was surprised at how well ATI is doing at the moment in regards to there shading, AA and AF modes and this comes into play with dense terrain features.

Sorry I cant answer your question Chris but as a small question for some one with dual core CPU? What type are you running? And how does FP original play with it?
  3. GAZ NZ

    dual core compatible ?

Probably - yes - see my post on specs mentioned and GPU , and CPU systems being used and tested

I think from the sounds it it will - although it depends on Havoks physics engine used now by Nvidia for new GPUs. - how that works and if AA use it. I wouldnt be surprised if dual cores become standard in regards to how Havok/ Nvidia pres release said the setup was for a good GPU unit single or SLi and a dual CPU for providing good graphics for a game. I found this article below also mentioning hardwar aspects recently from Havok. The article re havok speaking about Ghost Recon. Ill post the response from aegia when it is made to this Havok comment. Sure its sounds like they are trying to sell there products better but its interesting. Havok Sounds Off On Ghost Recon AGEIA Physics - tech (hx) 06:27 PM EDT - May,03 2006 - Post a comment / read (2) Game physics software engine company Havok has decided to go on the offensive and take on some claims on the newly released PC version of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, which is the first game to support the AGEIA physics processor. Here is some statements Havok sent over: Havok Physics (on the CPU) is used for all game-play physics in both the multiplayer and single-player PC versions of the game. All persistent collidable objects in the game are simulated using Havok software technology running on the CPU. Havok's logo is on the GRAW PC box, substantiating Havok's use in the game (confirmed by Ubisoft marketing). Havok was also used in recent GRAW releases including Xbox360, Xbox, and PS2 skus. AGEIA Novodex is said to be used in the single-player GRAW version for added PPU-accelerated effects - at the most AGEIA appears to be used for particle effects - and in no-way affects game-play outcome. AGEIA is NOT used in any way in any GRAW sku other than the PC. From our inspection, differential effects in the GRAW PC game when using the PPU are not significantly obvious - but where they can be observed, additional particles do not appear in volumes greater than 100's of particles (a range that is typically easily in the domain of the CPU/GPU for particles). These observed particle effects are also only particles and not apparently persistent rigid bodies. They pass through the environment after a short time (seconds) at most.User comments back this up: "to be honest it looks exactly same with the PPU as it does without it, the only difference is you get the extra blocks/debris, the strange thing is these extra blocks/debris seem to appear unrealistically out of no where when you shot things like the wall, floor etc, it really is like they've just been tacked on just to say *this game supports PhysX*." Consumer reports from users who already have purchased the PPU and GRAW indicate that the PPU "actually slows down the game" in moments when effects are generated that are unique to the PPU. The effects described above appear to be the cause of the slow down - our observations here using a DELL/PPU confirm this. Also see here. One user comments states: "10-16 FPS slower with hardware PPU, I guess I need another GPU (SLI) to help render the added debris and effects I get from using the PPU, the price of PC gaming just went up again :-(, I can't believe that I have to disable the hardware PhysX card I just paid 200 quid for so that I can play GRAW at an acceptable FPS, to be honest I just feel like giving up on PC gaming these days." AGEIA appears to imply and consumers conjecture that the PPU is generating so many objects that the GPU cannot handle the load. Multiple direct tests on the game by using NVIDIA's and ATI GPUs indicate the GPU has room to spare and in fact, if the PPU is factored out of the game, that the particle content generated by the PPU can easily be drawn at full game speeds by the GPU. So the introduction of the PPU most certainly appears to be the cause of the slow down in this case. NVIDIA specifically can technically verify that the GPU is not the cause of the slowdown. We should stress that Havok is supportive of efforts like GRAW and Ubisoft specifically is a valued and strong business partner. More generally, Havok is a strong supporter of the PC development community with over 38 titles shipped to date on the PC using Havok technology. Havok is very enthusiastic about the prospect of additional acceleration for physics in PC games - specifically coming from multi-core CPUs and GPUs - both dual configurations and cutting edge GPUs targeting both graphics and "GP-GPU" applications.

Ive been studying the whole Havok vs Aegia issues. Currently Havok if there system - which is more "do able" ( in that i mean affordable) is used - they indicated the use / support of a dual processor and a single GPU with physics built in - part of the GPU. This was in a seperate development article I read on the Nvidia site. Something to consider. You need a good CPU and single GPU at least etc to handle physics. I will be upgrading soon to a dual core myself. I wont be getting two PCI E cards - only one but ill get an SLI motherboard to make sure im covered. if I needed two and get an extra cheap one at a later point. And in regards to changes in tech its hard to buy at the moment - plan ahead. I think there will be a period of 2-4 years while all this sorts it self out. Look at it like this We have new physics cards coming out. - Havok vs Aegia Direct X 10- probably comig out with Vista. New CPUs and RAM GPS in DUAL or Quad setup Quad setups are not realistic for 99% of purchasers out there right now - dual setups even push it for some peoples budgets And Windows Vista - 64 bit applications ( yeah right ) Blue ray Discs and HDTV Its a revolution going on in front of us. A very expensive one to play games and confusing when looking to buy. Im simply going to get a really good system now and wait it out over the next 2-3 years or so. Its pretty crazy trying to keep up with it all. I dont have the money to waste on an ok system every 3 years - PC expensive to buy - around $1900 NZ dolars or so each time. I only every upgrade to play FP. Thats a good reason. Im just pray my buy plays AA well. Direct X 10 im presuming will come with - be part of the whole Windows vista release. Therefore will the whole Vista thing which is up in the air - buggy - and full of compatibility issues will delay most peoples use of it. I wont be touching it for 1-2 years or more. Ill be forced over when you need direct 10 at a later point - maybe when game 2 comes out in 2 years. If that is intended to work in 64 bit mode under vista. Who knows?

What do you *HOPE* will be in ArmA?

Its my understanding Game 2 will have Ageia physics - and VBS features from reading up on the game makers comments. The only VBS feature ive seen for AA is the collapsable bridge - which would include buildings id imagine. There has been no mention of wether they will be using an Aegia card for physics. AA to me seems pointless if Game 2 is also in production. Game 2 I heard is 2 years away. AA is about 6 months away. I wish they - both companies would release some proposed recommended system specs with a bit more information on all this.

    Alpha Specs - Hardware

What are the machine - graphic card specs being used for the alpha phase. Any chance of a rough idea of graphics card - processor power being used for alpha testing ? or is that secret? Also curious to know what they actually use them selves ( the game programmers) when gaming with old FP and in armed assault at this stage with current hard ware. Does any one know? If you cant answer thats fine, but alot of gamers out there are curious as to what they use and it may give a rough indication as to possible hardware required for AA.

English Translation of DOUPE 15 article

It is easy to misinterpret posted information re comments like the game being meant for "main stream gamers". Id expect however the changes to be positive and more customisable. The fact they are not allowing jumping says something good for us FP gamers. From the changes they are making it sounds like the game will be customisable with so many options. This will attract mainstream gamers who like certain options that current non realistic games have. This will have the developers hoping to attract more players - greater sales while keeping everyone happy including the FP community. This game ( Operation Flashpoint and Resistance etc) has basically been successful because of the community that makes amazing realistic mods and support for the game. <SALUTE> to the community The engine is diverse and the game itself was original and still is as far as im concerned to anything made. If you ignored that community support and there requests to simply make a clone of other games out there the company / developers making money would soon lose its reputation with the fans and it would hit them both in loss of sales, reputation and probably e-mail abuse. I myself perfer realism ( Flashpoint ) to the rubbish that is out there like Deltaforce Landwarrior, Blackhawk down, battlefield etc. I shoot in RL. I know people who are big gamers in Tribes clans and Battlefield and I have offered to take them shooting and they are afraid to shoot a real gun. Bit of a joke but they are not into real weapons or aspects. They just like quick basic fun though in a game which is why they like simple games to link and play. Alot of guys i know dont mod, or get into mods either which is one reason alot of people dont really know about the real flashpoint. They just play every new game, then play the next calling me sad for still playing FP. FP while my favourate game does have problems and it can be time consuming setting up mods etc even for experienced FP gamers. Buts its worth it. Unfortunatley the "twitch " crowd need something different. I think they are trying to keep the game more user friendly with these changes especially in the MP connection and ease of use factor so it will make the game seem simpler to all. As losing the fanbase that to me have helped make alot of new things possible - concept and development wise through FP would be the last thing they would do. Frankly if they did go all Corporate and had only one interest to screw us all over id simply go back to playing FP. But i dont think it will happen. At the end of the day they have to change there marketing slightly as they need money for funding - money talks. But at the same time the game has to stay real as 1 its main support and sales etc comes from the community which is larger than they link and quite large for a game of its kind 2 its other tool VBS is sold to the military community I wouldnt worry to much a God help them if they do make a -commercial game though- Fingers crossed and stay positive

    SAS BLOODBATH IN TIMOR

My mate in the Amry who knows members of the current and ex serving SAS said it was real and it was kept pretty quiet. An article came out in NZ newspapers saying our troops killed some gurrellias coming over the border - Timor but that was pretty much it. It never said we nearly went to war. It was short and sweat. They would never tell us what nearly happened. I came across that article by mistake a few weeks back and it was quite a surprise buts its too be expected these days. Also should be noted there is a large oil basin apparently off in the sea in Tmors waters if i remember correctly. Thats the only reason they are there NZ and Aussie.

    EECP - Enhanced ECP

Thanks ZAYFORD!! Not trashing you guys or anything. I was surprised that with kegs Launcher doing weird things that others didn't complain - mention it. That mod organiser is so important now days. Maybe it is time one specifically coded for ECP is made. It wouldnt be hard I dont think. Jst modify Kegs. Anyways thanks for you and the teams hard work. Well make the best of it regardless. And if you can reply to this one quick question id appreciate it. For MP does one have to have a dedicated server for ECP to work or can it work for 1-4 players with the host playing and hosting. Many Thanks Oh and one last thing mod folders do work fine just changing the command line on the shortcut. I missed the AddOns Folder inside my UKF mod folder - silly mistake but small enough so it didnt work. Kegs launcher is still stuffed though

    EECP - Enhanced ECP

Metal Gear i had that problem using the mod launcher of kegs then it did it on the normal version to test with ECP and mods and it crashed there too. I reinstalled the game and reinstalled ECP and its working fine. Yes there are some mods or mods dir structures causing problems. FOr now i recommend removing COC addons due to the map click errors if you are not brave enough to fix them and as many others that are not necessary. Id wait till EECP comes out see what units they have and add in extra. Im going to be making or re editing missions for EECP only and releasing them soon with the odd ECP compliant addon. IM trying to keep everyhting clean and to a mimum to play. ECP while good has alot of compliance porblems with basic fundamental things like mods folders - kedetgys ofp launcher etc ive found. I tried posting on it twice on the main bug forum but no one answered my query and i was ignored

    EECP - Enhanced ECP

Hey K man can you give me any assistance re this problem? No one in the ECP forums seems to be listening. Actually i think i fixed it - must have been the UKF addons causing the prob. Ill have to do further testing. Its regarding this problem below and using ECP and basic mod folders like ie UKF forces and BAS for instance. I want to use these mods folders with ECP without putting them in my offical folders. I get errors using OPF Launcher - ECP wont load the scripts properly - latest version - im trying to figure out to load the game via Kegs launcher. This is just with basic ECP - and will the same happen with your version. Are we stuck with EECP mods only? Try it - make a mod folder - use ECP and add a basic mod via a mod folder not FDF or CSLA. Load them and ECP with Kegs launcher As all the mods folders make it difficult to use ECP via the command line changes to the shortcut launcher command line/ so id rather use the launcher to save time and hassles. The error is that it tries to load the original FP screen and not the ECP inital startup even with the ECP mod enabled with other mods after it. There is not an ECP exe to target only the shortcut. If there was an EXE it could target like FDF or CSLA exes it might work?. As its only being worked as an addon to the main FP its having trouble executing and as a result it loads up via the original FP screens. This does gives an ECP main interface window with an error message then in game doesnt load ECP settings and gives an error message. If anyone has figures out how to use Kegs launcher with this latest version of ECP please let me know and give us detailed instructions. Try it and you will see what i mean. use the launcher to do this - lastest one of Kegs. Cheers
