10 years gone by already ? Bring another 10 more :p Thank you BIS, there's no other developer like you. P.S. You might have wished OFP good bye but you won't get rid of Guba so easily :D

Shite... there go another 10 years of my life

Great news indeed. Can't wait to get home and start testing :) Thanks guys.

Click me (Only if you are 18 or older) Ehm... English or continental refereeing would surely have agreed to award a red one for this kung fu master piece. With a whole game to play such event could have changed the course of things. I bet it would have given Spain a better chance to display their usual "tiqui-taca" :j:

Terve! Just thought I'd write a quick post to congratulate you for your good work. I've had so much fun with your mod since the first OFP release! I'm eagerly waiting for the Arma 2 release.

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
Guba replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
You'll notice a Go for the HD4890 and overclock your CPU a bit Fox (you can find plenty of guides on the net for doing that easily, minimizing the risk to your system). You should be able to play the game smoothly with high settings and save yourself quite a lot of money. I went from a 8800GS 320MB to a HD4890 and the difference in performance was abismal. And my CPU is slower than yours (C2D 6400 @ 2.6Mhz). -
YES SIR!! These guys really diserved it. Underachiever who?

Relax . It's not all over for Sweden.

then monitor turns black and then it errors me with message saying <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">Error compiling pixel shader PSAlphaOnlyMod then i click ok and i watch my beautiful desktop. ok update i made Arma work again by not running the freedom fighters addon and the new zombie mod.. Commando I've experienced this error message before. I recon you might have a sintax error in the parameters of your game shortcut. Could it be a ";" after the last mod folder? For example -mod=beta;fdfmod; instead of -mod=beta;fdfmod

Welcome orb! If you ask me I would definately say go for it! But the wisest thing you can do is try the demo and see if you like it or not. You can download it here. Cheers.

Hi guys, Unfortunately I'm also geting the LOD and texture flickering problem after the update, which I had experienced in rare ocasions until now. You can check the hardware I'm using at my signature, game is a german boxed version running on Windows XP SP2 The game settings I use are "left column on low and right column on high" at 1024 x 768 32bit and 85hz. I tried changing the settings (textures, post-processing, AA, AF) and resolution (1028x1024, 1200x1600) but I still experienced the problem. I also tried diferent drivers (158.19 & 97.92) A few things I noticed: - In Ramady the LOD and texture problem takes longer to hapen than in Sahrany after loading an editor preview with a few units. - After pressing the ESC button during a mission the game takes a long time to show the menu (it shows receiving...). If I press ALT+TAB twice the menu apears. While this happens hardrive activity is very high. - Pressing ALT+TAB twice sometimes removes the LOD & texture problem completely (although it apears again later), sometimes partially (text and some textures are not rendered correctly) and sometimes it doesn't load the game again (I can hear the menu buttons when I move the mouse but still see Windows desktop). - Textures seem to be quite dark and colors strange (like it hapened to me once after forcing the color depth to 16 by editing the settings file) - Vegetation seems to cause significant FPS impact when shading set to Normal Please let me know if you need any other information or there's anything you need me to test.

You can also try keeping Arma in a dedicated partition and defragmenting it often while trying to run the least number of tasks possible. That reduces stutter significantly for me even I only have 1 Gb of RAM at the moment.

Jabbah I have a system quite similar to yours (actualy not so good , check my signature) and are running the game without any problems (fps stay around 60 and don't usually go below 30) and with a nice level of graphic detail. Here go a few tips that worked for me: - Update your motherboard bios - If you really love :P the game try creating a dedicated partition for it (with a tool like Partition Magic for instance) and install Windows XP 32 bit on it. - Install latest motherboard and other hardware drivers - Install Nvidia drivers (version 97.92 or beta 101.2) - Configure the drivers to "Performance" setting and make sure that Vertical synchronization is disabled. - Install the game with all patches up to the beta - Configure ArmA the following way: -> View distance: 1200 m -> Resolution: 1024 x 768 -> Left column of settings: Low -> Right column of settings: High - If you need to use a higher resolution disable AA - If it still doesn't work try removing a few chips of RAM and see if there's any difference (That if you really love the game :P) - Also make sure you defragment the game's partition often (it seems to help reduce slowdowns caused by terrain streaming) - Finally post how it went Hope that it helps

Outstanding work guys. I really like this addon! One thing I noticed though is that although it can be destroyed by a m1 sabot or m136 rocket it seems to be very resilient to ffars fired from choppers when compared to other armoured vehicles. Not sure if this should be like this or not. Anyway great job!

Hi Steve, also it's worth that you check the Hardware issues thread for some useful tips to improve the performance of your game.
-
Yep, it hapened to me too (see my first post) when seting it to 0. So I set it to 1 and then it worked.
-
Erm... did you miss my post guys? You can use coolbits with a 8800 with no problem. You just have to revert to the classic CP following the instructions you will find in this link: CLICK ME
-
Aparently there's a way to switch back to the classic control panel for the 8800 series. After you have done that you just need to apply coolbits registry modification and the "max frames to render ahead" field will show up under "Additional Direct 3D Settings". EDIT: I just tried it and it worked. One thing though, setting the max frames to render ahead to 0 caused my pc to crash (at 1 it works fine)

Seirrah I know how you feel I have an AMD 64 3200 (2,2Ghz) with 2 GB of RAM and a XFX GF7800 GS 256Mb AGP video card. The first time I ran the game (v1.2) I wasn't happy with the performance so I followed almost every suggestion (from having an Arma dedicated windows XP with the pagefile in a second hard drive to over clocking my video card) I found in the forums (got to thank everybody that posted their advices and Jack-UK for posting them all together) to improve it. After that I managed to get at least 15-20 extra FPS which have made my game quite smooth for cities and desert at 1600 x 1200 with the settings I have enclosed below. But the game still doesn't run how I would like it to. There are still many situations in which I usually experience noticeable frame drops (<20 fps), some of which I have listed below: when -close to bushes -inside forests -prone on the grass -flying over large cities -playing with large amounts of ai -playing online (not always) If I lower the resolution to 1024X768 I notice a big improvement in performance in the first 4 situations which I would be more than satisfied to have at 1600x1200. That, from what I've heard, has to do more with the graphics card than the CPU (I would expect it to be the CPU if I didn't experience a significant performance improvement when lowering the resolution but that’s not the case). Regarding the 2 last situations though, the CPU is probably what’s to be blamed. Cause an upgrade of CPU would produce a chain reaction of upgrades in my pc, that is not an option for me at the moment. The only upgrade I can afford is to get a better graphics card, but only middle ranged. So these are the options I have been considering: 1. Buy that AGP Geforce X1950 Pro with 512 Mb and see what happens. Pros: -> Price of the card -> Performance similar to it’s PCI-Express version Cons: - It needs a very demanding PSU which would almost cost me half the price of the card. - I won’t be able to use that graphics card any more if I decide to upgrade the rest of my PC (I'm not sure how well I'll be able to sell it by then) 2. Buy a cheap transitional motherboard which supports my old CPU and RAM but that has a PCI-Express slot and then get a reasonable priced PCI-Express video card. I have been offered an XFX 7950 GT 512 Mb and an XFX 8800 GTS 320Mb for quite “reasonable†amounts. Probably both of those cards are overkill for my current CPU but it would only be till I can afford to upgrade it. Pros: -> 7950 + Motherboard is not that much expensive than the 1950 + the PSU (Hoping the 450W PSU I currently have manages to hold the 7950) and if I upgrade I can keep the card. -> 8800 GTS 340Mb + Motherboard: although it's quite more expensive it supports Dx10. Not that I'm going to play many other games besides ArmA but who knows... perhaps I can use it for Game 2 :P. Cons: -> I'll might have to reinstall Windows that I use for work when changing the motherboard (although I've read that maybe I can skip that by doing a repair install) -> It costs more than I planed to spend and I'm not sure how much will those cards improve the game and not even if the PSU I currently have will be able to cope with them. 3.Wait Pros: ->Will be able to buy an über pc if I manage to save up enough. Then I will surely run ArmA with no problem. Cons: ->I might not be alive by then :P Now if I were you Seirrah the first thing I would do is make sure your drop by the thread that Jack-Uk opened to see if you can optimize your Pc a bit more. If you've already tried that well ... maybe you will consider some of the same options I did I hope you have luck in your choice P.S. Out of the XFX 7950 GT 512 Mb and the 8800 GTS 320 Mb which card would you guys suggest if it was to be used exclusively to play ArmA. The things I fear most about the second besides the higher price are the less amount of memory and the compatibility issues. Thanks.
