way back when the developer still supported the product. ÂI think that's rather uncalled for, sure you have a gripe but if this game isn't supported anymore why is 1.92 being released?
Yep, I do have a gripe. But you and I know there wouldn't be a 1.92 if it wasn't for such a critical bug to be fixed (DPlay HDD Partition corruption). Something that could cause lose of face to the company or even potential law suits. But I do completely understand the business reality that the developer must move on and not devote time ($) to products that no longer generate profits. OFP is still a great game, but there are many tiny issues that (if dealth with) would significantly improve it.

I'll take that as a 'No'. I'm very surprised no one has tried to enable this, or requested the feature way back when the developer still supported the product.
I remember people boasting about how they run OFP at Blah x Blah resolution with Blah x FSAA etc. Yet the sudden texture res changes you see regularly on the roads, runways and terrain look butt ugly without trilinear filtering. (A feature that could almost just be 'turned on' if the developer so pleased.)

How to get rid of all MX5/700 problems: uninstall Logitech crapware
Be nice if it was that simple. The MX700 is too sensitive in OFP even with the mouse in PS2 port and default MS drivers. The best thing to do is enable speed control in games and slow it down. Pity OFP sensitivity slider is not up to the job like any other game. Shrike is lucky if he doesn't experience any probs with the MX500/700. I have since found people in 3 different forums describing the same issue.
Another little complaint about OFP, it forces you to use a set of buttons on the keyboard (eg. F1-F12 permanently mapped, or at least not configurable from within the game). I have been able to map the MX700 extra buttons to unused keyboard keys eg. F13-F15, so they don't conflict with any game control, but are still usable in games like Unreal Tournament/ Americas Army. OFP doesn't even register all the real keyboard keys, let alone reserved & foreign ones.

If any game needed it, its OFP. Long roads and runways look terrible as the mip levels change. The video drivers don't have any over ride for this, only AA modes I don't care for.

Sounds like a new problem for an old game.... so most likely not related to the game at all. I'd check the mouse cable, where it joins to the mouse, particularly if it is one of the (poorly constructed) MS Intellipoint series. If the problem re-occurs, try testing with other games/apps. Also try it in the PS2 port instead of USB, sometimes sudden CPU usage can effect mouse movement.
You might also want to tell us your system spec, kind of mouse, and the driver version, in case anyone has heard of this problem.

Okay SpeedDonkey, that was ah, that just was.
Words removed to limit spoilage.
Possible sources for his inspiration:
1) Simpsons episode with #### in love.
2) Book 'Snow Crash' with 700mph ####.
3) Recreational drugs.

That fix has been confirmed in this thread:
http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=30620
But it is nice to know it was officialy identified and fixed.

2 things to try for your 2 second slow downs:
o Try disabling sound device in device manager. See if it is sound related at all.
o Check you HDD device and driver and make sure DMA is enabled.

You're a cruel man Shadow, that mission Fight For Freedom was way hard. When I finally finished, after many restarts and reloads, it took 3 pages to list enemy casualties, 1 entry alone said like 23xSoldier. Maybe it should have been called "Five guys take on the entire US Army". ;)
-
Thank you once again Sanctuary. Â All fixed!
Now when I play, and my AT team fails, I'll know there's a crate of RPGs at hand

-
I've been slacking for over a year when it comes to releasing missions Â
And I still have'nt made any new ones....
Yes, I've been very disapointed with you Shadow. I used to check @war regularly for your latest mission, but that list is all but dead now. ;)
-
One more little bit of help please.
I have edited the mission, added RPGs to an ammo crate in at the enemy position and repackaged the mission with MakePBO.
The mission appears to work properly, but when I click on the mission from the main menu, to chose it, I get this message once off: "Cannot load mipmap mission\__cur_sp.eden\19.paa"
There is no image above the mission brief in the menu.
I have done a forum search, and checked out the briefing.html and the mission intel section in the editor, but I can't get rid of this error message.

New Nforce 2.45 drivers w/ 3.84 audio drivers seems to fix my problems. Asus A7N8X 1.04.Now EAX sounds play correct.
You're right. These new drivers work fine.... Hardware Accel + EAX sounds good! Yay!

Thanks Sanctuary, your instructions were excellent!
I am now editing the mission. I will have to experiment placing a ammo crate and sticking weapons inside the vehicles. I may have to uncompress some other missions to find out how, or learn some mission editing. (I was actually hoping to avoid that, since I'd rather play em than script em.)

There is a SP mission called Strike Back by a guy called J1mmy, where you play a m60 gunner, take a town, then defend against some armour. One of my favorite missions, except I never (rarely anyway) have enough rockets to take out the tanks. The way I usually play, is to pick the unspent LAWs of dead friends, but sometimes they waste them all before being wasted themselves. Unless I've missed something all these years, I really could do with some more rockets in a stash in the town, or with the reinforcements that arrive.
I don't know jack about mission editing, or if it is possible to modify once it is a .pbo, but I'd sure like to tweak that mission.

I hope future OFP will have improved save game options. I really enjoy reloading the mission from different places to try different tactics. I don't enjoy the hundreds of MB wasted space that saves leave on your drive cause you don't know they're there.

The cars and some other vehicles are made of large rubber blocks. Sometimes I take a car out for a bounce across the country side.
Not bad really, since I played a racing game a while back, where the cars behaved like beach balls. Quite obviosly a bit of sphere vs sphere and sphere vs tri action going on.

Just a related comment, probably not even to do with the devastated HDD problem.
I don't touch the DPlay button because the couple of times I tried to scan for DPlay servers and host with DPlay my computer has frozen. Not blue screened, just frozen still until I reset. I don't recall what FAT corruption I had afterwards because its a while since I've tried other than sockets, and I've reformatted since that time.
Also, when I first read someone who blamed OFP for corrupted partition I dismissed them, but the evidence is clear now.
I think if BIS wanted to minimize changes, they may be able to just disable the menu button to prevent that driver from being used.

Whats the difference between the mx500 and 700? (apart from one of them being cordless)Not sure what the difference is apart from the coord. I havn't been able to try one to compare 'feel'. But I can plug another mouse into the spare PS2 or USB port, and side by side, the MX700 makes the mouse cursor move faster, even with default MS drivers. By the way, the MX700 does perform well eg. smooth, precise, absolutely no lag like the older coordless.

as you say that advanced utility, i've already tried that, it did not help. So anyone else any suggestions?Unfortunately not. Before the "MouseWare Advanced Settings" utility I had the OFP sensitivity X & Y set to about 0.85 down from 1.0 which seemed to help a little before the 'dead zone' effect became too bad. You can use that MouseWare utility to manually turn ON both Accel and Speed before playing OFP and turn if off after. That makes the mouse nice for OFP but is a total pain to do each time. Truth is I stopped playing OFP for a few months after getting the MX700 due to the unusual performance with it. Another totally wack solution is to plug another coorded mouse into your PS2 port and use that for OFP (I can hear you yelling at that suggestion from here). I am actually still waiting for a better solution, but with logitech's 'go slow' attitude toward driver updates and BIS's (totally unconfirmed) discontinued support of OFP (eg. no more updates) we may be plum out of luck.
-
Even with the latest drivers v9.76, and acceleration disabled in games, OFP suffers worse than any other game from a issue with the MX700 (and 500?) itself.
The issue with the MX700 is that it actually returns raw mouse movements (called 'mickeys', no joke) that are 'faster' than other mice.
The reason the problem is particularly apparent in OFP, but also in games like Serious Sam, is that ALL games provide mouse sensitivity controls, but the control present in OFP produces horrible results. Â For example if you move the OFP slider to the left to 'slow' the mouse down (which is what you want to do), it has an effect similar to a large 'dead zone' as well as slowing the cursor movement slightly. Â Go ahead, try it and feel our pain.
My current solution is to download the logitech mouse utility (available from the same page as the driver download), and turn on 'mouse speed' in games. Â Now you can use the windows 'mouse speed' control to make it nice and smooth in OFP (assuming you run the game at a similar resolution to windows desktop), and in the other games, just adjust their sensitivity settings to compensate. Â This logitech mouse utility allows independant enabling of Accel and Speed adjustment, but does not (unfortunately) allow windows and game, or specific game calibration of movement or buttons.
So whos to blame (if we really have to blame anyone)
o Logitech for making their mouse speed behave differently from every other mouse I've tested (4 so far).
o BIS for the wackiest mouse sensitivity slider in a game (besides for Serious Sam).
o You (and Me) for buying such an expensive mouse with very ordinary drivers... but its soooo cordless and lag free.
Hope that sheds a little light, and it's good to know i'm not the only one noticing this problem.
EDIT: Hey Placebo, he's not got the slow/laggy mouse problem, but the "mouse moves either too damn fast, or not at all" problem.

Also, try disabling Sound any way you can, such as in BIOS, or DeviceManager etc. Do this just to see if playing sound effects causes the jerkyness you see in game.

If I plug my Logitech MX700 into PS2 port, WindowsXP blue screen crashes with this message:
MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS bug check has a value of 0x00000044. This indicates that a driver has tried to requested an IRP be completed that is already complete.
So it doesn't seem to be the same problem as you are experiencing.
Any way to enable trilinear filtering in ofp?

Woa, people, we're going way off topic. I just wanted to know if there's a way to enable Trilinear in OFP. If not, I wished we'd asked for the feature around the time the game was released.
