  1. I noticed the attack on empty truck during an excellent day time mission by MilesTeg. Unfortunately my objective was to PROTECT the truck while it was loading fuel. I had to shoot 3 of my own men and send the rest away to stop them destroying it!

You are right, I don't remember soldiers shooting at empty vehicles in older versions at all. I am just recalling a number of day and night missions where after a few minutes of peace after killing all the enemies in a base, my men began shooting at the vehicles and destroying them one by one. Very annoying when your sniper complains of no ammo half way through a mission after emptying his entire supply into a group of trucks sad.gif

I really hope BIS fixes some of these new anoying bugs it seems each version fixes one major bug and introduces two minor ones. I hope the focus doesn't shift entirely onto the 'next' game.

  2. Got it working! But I an not really sure how. It was repeatedly failing 3x and 4x. I then tried starting the game at 640x480 at 3x and 4x and it worked. So I increased the resolution using the in game menu and it still worked. Tried a few other things and now it doesn't fail at all. I am not sure what particular thing caused to to fail or succeed.

  3. Did some checking and more testing, still haven't got it to work.

The problem only occurs with FSAA 3x (quincunx) and 4x. 2x works fine.

All my options including lod bias are default in fact the only tweak is vsync is 'always off'.

The effect is unusual because almost all the game runs fine, just bits of the main menu and the text in the books is gone completely. Eg. I have to click on a blank page to start a mission.

  4. When I try to enable FSAA in Display Properties, OFP starts fine, but lots of things are blank or missing, such as the writting in the Mission and Campaign books and some of the menu words.

I can't start a game because I can't see what to click on!

Anyone seen this or have solution? After reading the Negative lod posts I want to try some FSAA.

  5. Since 1.46, I notice dead people getting up and about a bit. The most common is chucking a dead driver out of a vehicle. He will dismount, shoulder his weapons, perhaps take a step, then colapse back in a heap.

The other day I accidently blew up a civilian truck I was supposed to meet. When I searched around, One of the crew (or nearby corpses) suddenly stood up, delivered my a message, then fell back down. Quite startled me it did.

  6. I had a problem the other day when trying to command multiple vehicles. I was in a tank with a few team members, some were in a Truck and some were in a M113.

When I said 'All return to formation'. They said 'Following 3'. '3' was the M113, I was '1' as the tanks gunner and the tanks commander was '5. They should have said following 5?

Unless I was 'commander' in the tank, my driver would also immediately return to formation after completing a direct order to 'go to location'.

I was able to temporarily overcome the problem (which reoccured many times that mission) by getting everyone to 'disembark' then re-mount the vehicles. I also had to be the tanks commander, not gunner or driver.

Can anyone tell me what was going on so I don't have insubordinate people under my command?

I is almost like when I assume a non-commanding physical role, the soldiers ignore me as a commander, but instead followed the first vehicle commander (in some internal list).

  7. I was playing a user mission where a couple of ural trucks drive over a hill and unload soldiers to attack a base. I jumped on a jeep machine gun and shot them up. When I walked over to inspect, I found the driver of one of the trucks about 20m behind the truck, in the air (dead) in the driver position. I could walk through him and when I shot at him with rockets and grenades he merely spun around (about his vertical axis). It looked like he was killed while the truck was moving, and the truck moved on, but his body stayed where it died. I have a screen shot, but am not familiar with web places to store it.

  8. About DirectX

DirectX 8.1 is not a bug fix or speed improvement. It merely exposes a later version of Pixel shader for Geforce3 and Radeon level cards. You will always want to use the latest DirectX and won't have a choice when running newer games.

DirectX 9.0. The features set is not yet finalized, nor has the beta program began. Beta usually runs for 6-9months. It could be released at the end of the year, but no DX9 level hardware has been released or even publicly announced yet. The main features will be more versions of Vertex and Pixel shaders and Displacement mapping.

  9. Just tried the 1.7a and it works well with OFP. The older 1.7 did not, it made my screen flash continously in any resolution. I had been using 1.6 to get around that.

This program is good for verifying tweaking performance and checking that vsync is actually off (not the case for most nv drivers)

  10. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (ALDEGA @ Mar. 15 2002,07:28)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Adding RAM is one thing, but a faster cpu is required too. Lot's of missions do not run fine on my Athlon 650 when there are too many ai units (alive). After I've 'terminated' a bunch of AI, the framerate will go to a normal level.<span id='postcolor'>

You're not wrong, even my athlon 1.2 doubles in performance once I've terminated a bunch of badies.

  11. On further investigation tonight, I find that it is NOT the LOD that appears to be increasing performance, but the AutoDropDowns. I set this to None instead of 2x or 4x (whatever the default was). This is what prevents the game from load balancing the scene.

  12. I was experimenting last night trying to increase the image quality of OFP. I thought maybe I could also increase performance by preventing OFP for spending so much of its time load balancing the triangle counts in the scene.

Try this and tell me if it actually increases frame rate as well as image quality:

Start the game using the preferences dialogs. In the advanced section drag the 'Object LOD' all the way to the right (number becomes small).

It is possible this will only help certain spec machines, particularly with TnL and enough CPU to cope with the extra average load. The reasoning behind this tweak is that the fastest way to render triangles is to batch them and leave them alone.

    System: 1.2 Athlon, Geforce3ti200.

    How did you all go?

  13. Is it just me, or are the textures in OFP washed out, blury and low res? I've been wondering if different nvidia drivers make a difference also. Even when standing very close to buildings and vehicles, the textures appear speckled (highly contrasting colored dots).

The only improvements i've been able to achieve were from:

o Making sure driver set to 'best quality'

o Run game at high res

o Run game in 32bit color

o Adjust brightness, gamma in game and monitor to improve color.

o Check game preferences set to highest res (256x256 and 128 etc)

    Any other ideas?

  14. WindowsXP itself isn't your problem, you are getting past any CD issues. You are seeing the Logo screens, probably just up to the 3d menu.

    Do you have >64mb ram?

Do you have free HDD space and plenty for virtual memory?

Do you have latest ATI video card drivers?

I Don't remember what that particular video card is like.

Using the Preferences launcher, try changing screen resolution (eg. to 640x480) and the color depth (eg. to 16bit), try w-buffer On and Off. Also try lower resolution textuers (eg. 128x128 instead of 256x256). See if that makes a difference.

If you don't get help here, email Code Masters support and send them the generated files they request (something like context.bin and Flashpoint.rpt from the game directory) Along with you complete system stats. They may set you straight.

  15. How many CD drives do you have? Are you using any 'virtual CD' drives?

You may have an issue due to driver lettering. Try the CD in the drive with the lowest letter, or rename the drives to achieve this. Also try running from the drive you installed the game from.

    Just suggestions.

  16. Hey Hobo,

I upgraded from almost that exact machine. With the >1ghz processor, the game will feel totally different from the p3-450 you have. The Geforce2MX will handle okay. Here's the prob. The Gefoce2MX takes serious performance hits above 640x480x32 or 800x600x16 (both those are 15% hit already compared to 640x480x16). OFP likes 800x600 so you can read the text! It also likes either 32bit for z-buffer or 16bit with w-buffer (otherwise ugly as). However, with the Geforce2MX at almost any resolution, when there is smoke near by, or you look through tank sights at smoke, you will slow to a crawl. The fill rate just can't handle overdrawing the screen that many times.

Summary: The upgrade is good, you will enjoy the game lots more, however, if you really love the game and want high-res or high-color, think about a upgrade to at least Geforce2 Ultra.
