Am I the only one that wants to see a ARMA III MMO?
FallujahMedic -FM- replied to jasonbo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Maybe not a "worldwide" domination per say, but more of a separate strategic map and tactical map. Think of the game Pacific Theater of Operations IV: The setting is 1939. The European continent is plunged into war. The globe is carved into 50 naval districts. Players must take command of Naval forces from the United States, Japan, Great Britain, or Germany. The objective is to seize control of as many districts as possible, and defend against enemy aggression. From the North Sea to Midway to Okinawa- every conquest is one step closer to victory! In other words, Tactical outcomes which determine Strategic gains. -

I think the OP is on to something here. Bohemia Interactive has surprised us with spin-offs like Firing Range, so it goes without saying that that they are open to new ideas. A new title in the Armaverse doesn’t necessarily need to be exactly like what we we have been used to with OFP/Arma/Arma2. I have long wanted to see something a little different. My idea (while nothing new in principle) combines gameplay elements from various games such as Axis & Allies, Panzer General, Dune 2, Command & Conquer and Stronghold. It also takes elements from the Warfare, Domination and Evolutions gameplay modes. Those that have played the original OFP may remember the mission entitled Defender. In this mission the player and his AI had to defend a town against an armor attack. Now, imagine this concept on a map sized scale. The player would start with a certain number of credits to purchase or construct Defenses/Units (think Warfare). He would use this to form patrols, man defenses, etc. The longer the town is held, the more credits earned and the better the units become (dug-in). The town would be vulnerable to attack from online players who may have towns of their own. Think of this as the front lines of the battlefield constant changing due to skirmishes. The player would not be on his own though, he would be part of the chain of command and would receive orders from his superiors to scout locations, lead ambushes, steal equipment etc. So in essence, he would not be master of his own castle so to speak, but is part of a strategic effort (though he will be acting on a tactical scale). For those players that are offline their defenses and resupply will be accomplished by AI and by those players online. For example, Joe is offline and he has AI defenders and offensive units in his town. Combat will be much like the current take over of a town in Domination. Though the difference will be that the town will receive resupply, rearm, repair from Online towns within the Theater of Operations. As an online player, you may be tasked with sending troops or supplies to your neighbor to repel an attack. Or if the town is nearby, you may join in the defense and provide direct combat assistance to your neighbors AI defended town. The map and Intelligence will only be updated through direct reporting of recon findings. No fog of war revealed maps. Support and rearm will only be accomplished through requests. This is just a brief overview of my thoughts for an MMORPG for Arma. It is not what I expect Arma3 to be, but rather a vision of the direction Arma could take if interest was there. -
What if there were only a small island, say the size of Rahmadi or Porto? Or maybe a combination of the two? I wouldnt thing that would have too much impact on performance... but I have been wrong before..

Icebreakr, I think all 4 of your suggestions are great ideas. -With the weekly/monthly build idea, you will be able to receive feedback from the community in the form of new ideas as well as bugs/improvements. -Preset positions are a good idea because I can recall the various gas stations, hospitals, etc from OFP that were scattered around the islands where one could heal, refuel, etc. It would be a novel idea to have "repair centers" as well where one could drive their damaged vehicle through and get repaired. Many players don't understand the concept of combined arms warfare which leads to mobile units suck in the field out of fuel, low on ammo and in need of repair. -Modular building of towns sounds good. I think it will help pinpoint any problems you may have earlier in the construction process rather than building the entire town only to find that there are problems with FPS, etc. -Makeshift airports. A good idea. Refuel/Repair/Rearm center included :) FM -
Didn't quite understand what you meant by that, but if you were saying that the Marine Corps doesn't fly F-18's, you are incorrect. If I misunderstood your comment I apologize http://http://www.marines.mil/unit/mcasmiramar/Pages/default.aspx As far as the OP goes, I'd love to see more Naval units in the Armaverse.

FallujahMedic -FM- replied to Jewell's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I had the same issues, but they were resolved after I did 2 things. 1. I noticed that my computers internal temp was high, so I increased the speed of my fans. Now the temperature runs about 80F instead of 106F. 2. I updated the drivers for my GTS 240's (I have 2). Since doing these two steps I have not had the problem return. Hope this helps. -

Icebreakr, an updated Sahrani map would be awesome! I've been looking forward to your EPIC project for quite awhile. FallujahMedic / FM / Stang69 -
I recently had the opportunity to sit down with a very influential member of the Arma modding community, Icebreakr. Many Arma enthusiasts are familiar with his work which currently encompasses the islands of Duala, Lingor, Panthera and Jade Groove. This is my interview... When did you first stumble upon the OFP / Arma series? I've became familiar with OFP soon after the release (summer 2001, I think) and me and my buddies were hooked in it. We've soon started to organize LAN parties with coop & tvt missions. We're mil-sim active since then, of course broadband Internet replaced LAN parties soon after 2001 ;) What made you decide to make your own content? Me and buddies were familiar with BIS and their dedication to their products, constantly updating 'em. So we put together a list of things that would make game more realistic. Months and years went on, but semi-realism or lack of full realism in these games is probably a key factor for making mods. Along with localized armies add-ons, realistic sounds from the shooting range etc. I have experience in level design, so I quickly found out that my passion is map making. I have to thank Sgt. Ace aka Atsche for not loosing nerves with me and giving me tutorials on how to start. But map making for Arma series is a blessing and a curse at a same time ;) Do you make everything yourself or do you have a team? I usually work alone on the map. I ask my guys from SBP (Slovenian Black Panthers) Team and they give me insightful ideas when beta testing my maps. Diablo joined me on project Isla Duala, first fictional African-themed map for Arma series, and working with him proved to be extremely fun. He's a great guy and he made almost all of the towns and settlements you see on Duala by creating exciting templates for me to work with quickly. Where do you get inspiration for your Islands? I usually draw sketches while reading books, movies, daydreaming, you name it. But greatest ideas come when you're really passionately involved in the project so you actually start dreaming about it, let's call it a vision ;) my life motto is "live out your dreams" and that is what I like to do and find challenge in. Duala, Lingor and Panthera are very different from one another, was there a particular reason behind the design of each? Well, my team & I spent hundreds of hours on Sahrani and other mostly desert-like terrains and we really missed the green forests of Slovenia, that's where we live. That's how Panthera came to life. Duala is a tribute to an epic Tonal project for good old OFP classic game (forget about OFP: Menstruation, we're not touching that). Lingor is a long time wish to have a lush jungle environment in the flood of desert stuff. But it took me 6 months to wrap it up. With regard to the DLC controversy, what would you like to see in 1) DLC and 2) an area that needs more attention by BIS (and why) What controversy? BIS did a great job with "optional" content and Lite feature. Personally I would like to see a brand new island with a campaign that focuses on multiplayer & large number of players coop (or maybe 1/5 can play insurgent side along with AI defenders). Along with the regular engine update, of course ;) Unbeknownst to many are the humorous signs dotted around Duala, what made you decide to inject humor and where does your sense of humor come from? Well, I just like doing that stuff for the folks. And it makes me extra happy to see that people write me months later that they found out something new ;) Anyone noticed that El President of Lingor is actually Maruk, CEO of BIS? ;) All gamers enviously look to another game and want a certain feature in Arma. Do you have a specific other game feature that you would like to see? I remember playing once popular Joint Ops by Novalogic prior to Arma: Armed Assault and I kinda miss situations like this: - walking and firing from an open truck while one driver drives through the village like a maniac, other 5 do the shooting - a defender chopper that I hovered over a river, while a teammate fired a javelin directly off it hitting an armor just crossing a bridge half a click away - loading a buggy into a chinook and then driving off it when chinook flys really low above the hill - in-game support for teams/clans Can we expect to see a "Return to Duala" or "Duala Gold" Island in the future? You'll have a chance to play a brand new version 1.9 of Duala. Coming soon, with new added content and improved land textures. Terrain won't be changed in order to be compatible with all the released missions so far. Is there a grand masterpiece in your future? Well hopefully! I have two things right now on my mind: smaller Project "Massacra" and a Big Project I can't talk about it, yet. "IceBreakr is from Slovenia, Europe. He's been active in gaming community since 1997 working on several total conversions and mods. He joined GT Interactive (later acquired by Atari/Infogrames) to finish up two titles on Duke3D engine. Later he put his passion to level design on Source engine with Kuma, LLC on titles such as KumaWar, KumaWar 2 and couple other mods. His true passion is now running his own mil-sim team/community and creating open worlds such as Bohemia's ArmA & ArmA 2 engines."

Firewill, I like the Battleships. I always envisioned a Montana class hybrid with an Arleigh Burke Destroyer.http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/images/u140000/u144964.jpg plus this http://www.farragut.navy.mil/site/images/99_Turn_Burn.jpg. So basically the hull of a battleship (and the main batteries) plus the superstructure of an arleigh burke destroyer. -

Where/how/when to buy ARMA2:OA?

GAMESTOP, the outlet as described as being one of 2 (including Amazon.com, an online reseller) within a 100 mile radius of the Florida zip code 32091 doesn't even know it's the Distributor for Operation Arrowhead. I had been searching ( Ie, driving and calling multiple GmaeStops and EB Games (as well as Wall-Mart''s and Best Buy's) with no luck until last night. I had to drive 50 miles to Orange Park, Florida, to pick up my physical copy of Operation Arrowhead. Dear Bis, Gamestop is not doing your business any favors :( -

FallujahMedic -FM- replied to shark-attack's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - USER MISSIONS
Ok, so we played with almost a full crew the other night and quickly learned the value of timing and teamwork. Communication between the teams is extremely important as well coordinating attacks. You should have multiple plans in place just in case something goes wrong. Also, try and think tactically, a long sniper rifle does not cut corners as well as a designated CQB weapon, try to remember that when assaulting a building. Once we were all on board with the concept of teamwork we had a great time. We played a few more times afterwards and the mission did not get old or seem repetitive. -

Halo drop off point was great, I actually had to "fly" to my LZ instead of fall to it from High altitude. Once at the target area I had little time to pick a a good LZ, but I'm glad I didn't go for wide open spaces. Definitely on my top 10 list of SP/Co-op missions. Good job Shark !! -

Nope, Bought a new card the other week while all this was happening, figured my old card might be bad. Another $80.00 spent  -
I've searched the forums and found many instances of players experiencing the dreaded "red chain". I understand it is somehow related to desync. I have tried to solve it based on the input of forum members without resorting to cluttering the forums with another post. Unfortunately this isn't possible. I have upgraded my internet connection, feeling that my previous connection was insufficient to participate in MP games. I am now running a 6Mbps connection (up from $19 USD to $49 USD). This did not solve the problem. I am currently playing the game on a Dell XPS 730X( an Intel i7 @ 2.67GHz, 6 GB RAM, 2 GeForce GTS 240's and the latest version of Vista 64 Ultimate). In all I have over $3,000 USD in a system dedicated to playing Arma 2 (and Arma (1)), but still run into the same problems. I have gone so far as to disable every anti-spy, malware and firewall on my machine to see if it makes a difference....it doesn't. Is there ant REAL solution, or am I just throwing my money away?

Thanks Rex, PM sent, working on the issue now. I now know its not the game cause Arma 1 just did the same thing. *** Follow-up. Had a few problems with my DSL line. Got a new Modem, ran new line directly to the New Box they also installed outside.. Still have the same problem. I'm beginning to think it's a port issue as well. Contacted 2wire and they do not want to help, say its the software company's (BIS) fault to correct. I'll keep trudging along trying to find the right port combos... -
