Vista Troubleshooting Thread: The one and only
Emryse replied to sickboy's topic in ARMA - TROUBLESHOOTING
All, I've not had too many issues with ArmA - but I just got Vista 32-bit Ultimate. Haven't had issues with the OS until I tried to get ArmA to work. I have the Atari PC-DVD version of the game. I installed in the following order: 1.) The original DVD version. 2.) The 1.8 patch. 3.) The 1.14 patch. 4.) The Queen's Gambit expansion. When I get in the game, I am experiencing the following issues: 1.) The main menu is completely jacked up - slow, sluggish, and the buttons are very unresponsive. I have to re-scroll my mouse over the buttons multiple times to get the button to "register" as active before being able to click it. The frame rates are horrible, and then the background scenery is not working. IN fact, it looks like I'm just under water??? 2.) Once I actually get into the game, it's not too bad, but the frame rates aren't great. 3.) My game crashed about 25-30 minutes after playing - I was playing Evo online multiplayer. My system specs: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.67 Ghz 4 gigs DDR2 mem EVGA 8800GTX x2 in SLI Vista Ultimate 32-bit ASUS P5N32-SLI motherboard Soundblaster SE Plenty of hard drive space, my OS installed on C: and my game installed on D: My biggest questions are: 1.) What is the correct order and which versions of the patches for install of the game, QG, and up to 1.14? 2.) What is the optimal settings / etc. for tweaking Vista and /or my target line of the QG exe to run the game best? 3.) How can I get the ArmA menus working appropriately again? ANY and all good insight or info would be greatly appreciated!!! -
Hifi Sound FX V1.00 Released
Emryse replied to Mark XIII (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Mark, Again just want to reiterate all of my appreciation for the incredible work, time, effort, and love you've put into this addon. I truly hope at the end of the day you can see past the bad lemons and recognize the overwhelming majority of folks out there who are just itching to see what you would do in a 1.6,7,etc... rendition of your work! So here's my very small plea for you to keep up the good work (because I'm certainly not competent to do what you do)! Of course, as your schedule and time allow, and just know that the community is grateful and supportive of anything you produce! Cheers and all the best! -
Quite phenomenal work!!! I'm sorry to be such a nunce, but since I hardly have time to play, much less learn how to speak a code language, I have a request: Would someone with muchly skill be willing to write a replacement for this addon so I can make these units a part of my visual gameplay on any missions or multiplayer? Appreciate it!!

Hifi Sound FX V1.00 Released
Emryse replied to Mark XIII (DayZ)'s topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
First off, thank you for the incredible work, detail, passion, and quality you've placed into this addon - by far one of the best improvements to ArmA that I've seen. Of course, you don't have to take my word for it - that's why there are like 28 pages of comments just hours after release. I salute you! (And your woman for supporting you in this too...)Â Â Â Â -
Add On Compilation for more Realism and Immersion
Emryse replied to the.d's topic in ARMA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hey there - just wanted to again say "thanks" for such a phenomenal job keeping this up to spec, in current with the latest mod releases, and also current with the latest patch releases! First off, I have a suggestion: You may want to reconsider the TrueMods real FOV Accurate piece - I initially had it, but with 1.14 it would seem that the view is a bit skewed... almost like looking at one of those "bubble" mirrors used to spot folks stealing stuff at your local convenience store. At any rate, I found it a bit "unrealistic", so I've scrapped it. I know that the 1.14 patch seemed to alter the view some... and I'm not the expert, so I just wanted to re-raise this to your attention and see if there was anything to be done. And now for a question: I use NVIDIA G8800GTX (x 2 in SLI) - I have the latest drivers. When I first tried SickBoy's tracers, it seemed very "Star-Wars like" for the tanks, and the tracers were thick with a bright glowing "aura" around each shot... felt too unrealistic, so I canned it... is that effect intentional, or is it just the way my cards handle the graphics, or what? I just wanted to find out if anyone else had complained to you or anyone about it. Appreciate all your continued assistance! -
Maruk, Appreciate BIS's response, and I'm sorry that I've not provided very clear technical information other than my specs. I'm also sorry to hear that NVIDIA seems to be blowing this issue off or not providing the correct level of support to this community - I will give them a piece of my mind. Is there a particular program that you would prefer I use to benchmark my FPS as i try to collect some of this information for you? What I will do is go ahead and test the performance in 1.08 through 1.12 and let you know what I get.

I'm getting pretty bad performance as well on my rig - which I actually just upgraded - I wasn't nearly having such a rough time earlier last year - I too conclude that the "optimizations" in the later patches aren't all working as advertised... understand though that BIS is working very hard on it, I'm sure. At any rate, my problem is that it seems no matter where I place the settings for graphics, I still get very unpredicatable framerates, where I can be looking one way and get 50, then zoom in with my scope and drop to 19, etc... And this did not happen before. In general my FPS do seem to get worse as continue to play. As much as I love ArmA, this gets more frustrating, because I upgraded my system just solely to get better results in ArmA. It's hard to document, but it just seems like I got better performance with my single GPU and less memory!!! That is ridiculous! I'm running SLI and that's seen no dramatic improvements whatsoever - when I asked BIS directly about it, they said "sorry, not our problem - it's the hardware manufactuer..." and at the same time, NVIDIA is saying "sorry, not our problem, it's the software developer." Both answers are crap, because if BIS is going to carry the NVIDIA logo, then they had better well damn program the game to take advantage of SLI, which WAS available at the time they were developing it. Likewise, if NVIDIA is going to let BIS use their logo to state their game is NVIDIA rated, then they had better damn well make sure they work with BIS and release all necessary support and resources needed to ensure full optimization with SLI and their hardware products!!! That ends my rant - it really is a frustrating issue, and spending $800 on upgrades just feels wrong for such a let down. If anyone can let me know good suggestions (and I've tried the "update all everything drivers, switch exe to fear or 3DMark06, bla blah blaw..." - please if anyone has real suggestions or a real solution, I would GREATLY appreciate it! My specs: Mobo: ASUS P5N32-SLI (latest bios and drivers available) CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 at 2.99Ghz (with the dual core hotfix WinXP patch from MS), with ASUS Silent Knight Heatsink/Fan (runs between 42 idle and 51 under load) Memory: 4 gigs Kingston HyperX PC6400 DDR2 GPU: Two EVGA G8800GTXs in SLI (latest drivers available) Harddrives: Two WD 320Gig HDs in RAID 0 (that's where the game is installed) Soundcard: Creative Audigy SE OS: Win XP 32 (with all latest MS Updates) Version of ArmA: 1.12 (whatever latest posted on news) and QG expansion Addons Used: ECS, ArmAEffects, FDFSounds, NWDScopeFix, NWDBallistics, DurgsVeg, GMJames SightAdjust, DMDarwin Smoke, SixPack 1 and 2, and basically any of the other recommended addons in the RyanD compilation thread (with a few exceptions that never before used to cause this kind of grief)... Appreciate the time anyone takes to right back. Thank you BIS for making a great game, and I apologize as I don't mean to be rude, but it is frustrating, and I hope you can outline a better policy on how you are working with the hardware manufacturers either in this game, or the next. Just my $.02!

Bro - I'm sure you've been told already, but as for the sparks, I see them when my bullets connect with human bodies. Not sure how all that amazing stuff you do works though, so I'm just letting you know and politely thanking you for all the hard work to make this awesome mod!
-
MM - One more note; I tried to run the "target range" addon (that allows you to set up targets at various distances and practice - the one the Non Wondor Dog and GM Jamez reference...) - it won't work, stating that "mission won't play - downloadable content has been deleted math.<your mod>; I know this isn't the exact verbage. At any rate, your previous version worked just fine... so wondering if there was something in particular that may have caused this? Not a big deal... but let me know if you are interested and I'll try to do a better dig on info for you (or maybe someone with a little more knowledge who also has had this happen can speak up...)

MM - Your addon was one of the first that I used - absulutely loved the vid you released with .4 and it would be really cool to see any other cinematic work you would wish to release with a new version... at any rate, this is once again phenominal work and I truly appreciate your efforts and unwillingness to compromise as you develop a quality product!

I really agree with you on this one - one of the best ways I've actually seen this done is in Rainbow Six Vegas. What would be nice is if they made a way to basically "take cover" against walls, or duck behind objects, etc... but keep it in 1st person view, and allow you to use your lean or Track IR to peak over, around, underneath, etc... I can't go to far with this without also requesting that realistic penetration values for objects and cover be created too - if I duck behind a car, there should still be a really good chance I can get blasted, given a more powerful caliber or armor piercing rounds, etc...

I for one think that BIS would greatly increase their popularity with a wider segment of simulator fans out there if they built in better physics and realism models for their aircraft, both fixed wing and rotor. What most people fail to get is that while an easy game can be quickly picked up and learned, a challenging game offers much longer playability and enjoyment. Once the challenge and learning is done, it's really a short period of time before it gets boring. For ArmA, that's been slowed by the release of some amazing addons that attempt to offer more realism and challenge, but I think BIS could greatly improve on their already phenominal work - if anything, make it really challenging and realistic, and then offer "dumbed down" or "easier" levels of options for those who want a more "arcade" feeling to their game. Just my $.02 - if by the way anyone knows of an addon to add more realism and options to flying the helos in ArmA, I'm all for it!
