That would really help with the ground and building details, but it wouldn't do much for the vegetation lod switching, which is IMHO one of the biggest visible drawback of the current engine. BIS stayed with DX9 because DX10 was Vista Only and didn't offer substantial improvement. DX11 seems to be a real step up this time.

The sad thing about it is the following : - if DR is a financial disaster, it will be another excuse for publishers to say that realistic mil-sims are not profitable anymore, and we'll probably won't see a worthy competitor for a long time. - if DR is a success in its current state, it will be another excuse for releasing rushed games based on false promises and simplistic gameplay.
-
The medium does no make the content. It doesn't need to be dumbed down if BIS doesn't want it that way. It was CM choice to make DR "easier", not a technical limitation. Graphics can be scaled down and controls can be adapted to keep 90% of what's on PC. They have done it before on XBOX ! Though they will probably sell less copies if they keep it hardcore, they will have a more unique product and a stronger fan base. And you can even plug a keyboard on the 360 if you want to !

Isnt'it just a pound/euro conversion thing... ? Still a bargain. But I already have 2 copies (1 digital + 1 physical...)

Countermeasure module : link it to a unit and it automatically spends chaff and flares when shot at
-
Do you have ideas for new editor modules that would make our life easier, automate tedious tasks etc... Please share it and say how it would work ! For instance I'd dig : - Halo module : drag halo module, synchronize with units and the units will freefall anytime they eject. - Respawn module : for MP missions. drag the module ingame. If you synchronise it to an object/marker/player people will respawn near that object when dead.

Maybe arrowhead will be on consoles... Improved engine (hopefully) + much less vegetation to deal with...

The sea-fps issue is a video driver/shader thing. I had that before in 1.00 , updated my drivers and the stutter was gone. I heard it was back for some...

Selling Mods and Scripts for Profit

No, just that professional studios cannot really afford to dedicate their artistic or financial ressources to a mod if they cannot live off it. Real, as in "substantial". -
Arma 2 beats OFP all the way on a technical point of view and DR doesn't even come close on PC (FLIR aside, but that's coming). Was CWC campaign better than Harvest Red ? Maybe. I'm not sure. Harvest Red is darker and grittier. More realistic and open ended, yet more buggy and less versatile. To each his own. Had OFP a stronger impact for its time ? For sure, it was the first of its kind. No one will be able to match that, ever. Just like Doom gave us a blow when it started the FPS genre. Is OFP better than Arma 2 : no way !!!! Your memories of it may be, but the game itself has advanced so much in immersion and functionalities, I can't believe anyone would want to go back. And Arrowhead is going to make it even better (random city creation !!!) Back on topic. I wish DR was out on the WII... At least it would bring something new in the controls and no one would bitch about the poor graphics.

I wouldn't mind paying for high-quality content, just like Arrowhead. AO is actually partly outsourced to Black Element (or Altar Games ?). If this is what we are talking about, why not. Opening the possibility of payware (with a licence fee paid to BIS for instance), would allow small studios to dedicate some real talents and ressources (voice actors, modelers, texture artists, original music, cutscenes etc...) for some serious expansions with BIS support and approval. -
When the game doesn't CTD (warfare!), it runs great on medium/high settings on Q6600 and G8800GTX here, that's about the recommended specs. I can't max it out all the time (except maybe on Utes) but most of the time it's quite enough. Minimum specs = the game will load ! Recommended specs = the game will run ok on normal settings, not Maxed

Looks like Sci-fi Arma 2.5... nice -
The amount of Marketing they put in this game is astonishing... I believe they spent in magazine ads and PR what Arma 2 must have cost in development. There are 4x3m ads in every other subway station in Paris... I hadn't seen such a promo for a game since GTA IV.

It's always the same guy, the other ones have their face hidden with turbans. -
kiska / skira ,does anyone want to see this island in A2 ? (the OFPDR island)
EricM replied to 9thAircav's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Is there even a tree on the real island ? It all seems grass... -
Some shots are really breathtaking... They are clearly leading the market by a long range, engine wise, and their sandbox editor was a blast to play with. The size of the environment isn't as big as BIS's, but it looks much more densely populated, so I guess you could get quite large maps with similar clutter as Chernarus. Too bad they only develop run and gun shooters with this and their AI is totally scripted too. but the rest is pure crack for they eye... Maybe someday someone will licence this for a proper tactical shooter or Mil-sim, but at the price it must cost, I doubt you can make a niche game with that.

Weapon should be a panel similar to your gear interface in game where you drag and drop guns and ammunitions from the left to your backpack
-
Weird... Razor always has night vision here...
-
So has every OFP/Arma fan here bought a copy of Dragon Rising just to see how bad it really was ? I can't believe the number of sales they seem to have got this way... I would understand if it was in a bargain bin, but console games are pretty expensive these days... Man, the Flashpoint name DOES SELL !

I would encourage you to edit your post immediately to remove any kind of suspicious reference to not so legal practices. They are not tolerated here, even though I'm glad you got Arma 2 the right way. And there are still bugs, some big, some small : Big : Many CTD in warfare missions (I crash every 15min or so in Dogs of War) for instance, graphical corruption with certain cards etc... Small : -Topolka dam : you can walk underwater near the dam... the list goes on and on... -Muzzle flash of MI24 always visible -Artillery module fucked up with MLRS and Grad...

Isn't it actually what's happening in real life ? This is the very concept of guerrilla : play with asymetric tactics, hide and mix with populations etc... and history teaches that from the Spanish napoleonic war up to now, that the guerrilla always wins... -
@sk3pt : you nailed it ! DR looks like Sahrani loaded in Arma 2, except with slightly lower object density + more post process ! Arma 1 is from 2006, trees are destructible and you don't have 63 entity limit though... Note : I love how "ofp : DR" turns into a smiley on this forum when you write it... as if it was some sort of joke. How ironic. OFP:DR
