Saddam was hanged publicly a long time ago... IIRC. -

My thoughts exactly. You cannot really have Russians as OPFOR in the campaign if you have official UN deployment as bluefor, otherwise it would be vetoed in the security council to start with, and it would only be NATO at best. -
Incredible... It seems you have it all covered, from weapons to apc, mbt, air, transport... Looking forward to it... Hats off sir !

How much money did BI make out of Arma 2????
EricM replied to itsme's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I think the 20 employee thing is just for R&D (the core developpers)... From the credits, it's well over 100 people (I stopped counting) with external artists and designers hired on a per-job basis... -

According to Idea Games, OFP sold 2 million copies and Arma 400.000... (it's in BIS profile on their page). I'm pretty sure Arma 2 sold much more than Arma 1 but still less than OFP, but I don't know how much they earn per copy sold after retailer/distributor/packaging/share is withdrawn. When you see that major games now have budgets between 20 to 40 million euros (80 or so for GTA IV with all the marketing stuff added), the million units sold is bare minimum nowadays I believe to reach breakeven. Let's just hope they covered their cost neatly and made enough profit to support if for a long time and develop more awsome free roaming games, but not too much so that they'll still have to work a bit longer and make more awsome free roaming games. ;) -
I'd love that too... Just to see how it really is first hand, without spending the money I'm saving for Arrowhead.

ARMA II Beta Builds Released: Latest version/build: 1.04.6xxxx
EricM replied to mattxr's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
I would guess it's the Grass Layer... I'm not sure how they do that, but if it represents a duplicate of the ground surface with transparent textures and culling planes it must cost in CPU/GPU power. -

Same here, less stuttering as it seems flying over Cherno. Note : could you reload while passing over a fence before ? or is the new IK system ? -

Same here... German Download version patched to 1.04.... Too bad. -
My experience in Arma must be maybe only 50% mil-sim, the rest being sightseeing, mountainbike, rabbit chasing and all sorts of weird stuff in the editor... that's what I love about it... : freedom... Realism and military simulation is just a side bonus.

For those into indie game making, Unity has released a free version of it's very nice cross-platform (PC/MAC/Wii/IPhone) game development software. www.unity3D.com Try the Tropical Island live demo to see for yourself. It's very high quality! Actually, it looks like a mini farcry...

I'd better have a couple of more expansion packs to build and improve on Arma II like OA (with new nice features/engine improvement, new factions, campaign, maps...) rather than a new Arma 3 at the moment. With expansions like OA you cumulate all the content. If you go Arma 3, you somehow lose a lot of the previous content which doesn't get ported from one version to another..

Huge respect man... If I recall correctly you thus have ingame : Main battle Tank, APC, Jeep, Attack airplane, Transport Helicopter, and a custom Soldier with custom assault rifle, pistol, MG, Sniper rifle... Most Impressive...

Download worked for me yesterday. Everything was fine (using firefox).

Can you take it to PM ? Where here to talk trash discuss about DR, not retina persistence... (and yes, with motion blur, you don't need more than high 20's -30's FPS to feel it smooth 80% of the time. sorry, couldn't resist)
-
With motion blur (like in cinema or TV) it "feels" fluid from 20 fps or so depending on the scene. With a more action packed/hectic scene, you might want to have around 30 or 40, but anything above 60 is pure wasted ressources IMHO and is probably capped by your monitor refresh rate anyway, as mentioned before, if you are among the 80% with modern LCD screen. I don't know if DR has motion blur, so let's say it should have a higher FPS to look fluid, but 100's fps remains overkill for a tactical shooter where you need to think before you move.

You know, chinese all look the same on the Internet... (joke)
-
MP isn't a gamebreaker ? Arma has bugs because it tries (and does) so much more, without constraints imposed on the player... And on my machine it works. And to see that DR runs at 120 FPS on a PC is a testimony that CM didn't fully use the computer potential : anything past 20/30 FPS is considered fluid to most human eyes, and there is no visible gain perceived above 50/60 fps. So instead of 100's of FPS they could have thrown twice as many entities or simulate more stuff in the game to get a solid 30/40 FPS. Talking about arma 1 and OFP from 2001 ?

360 Controller Y-axis Inversion please?
EricM replied to ChrisS55's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
What prevents you from asigning UP to Y- and DOWN to Y+ in the control panel (or vice-versa) ? -
No, just a joke on how great it was claimed to be one year ago. With retrospect, CM video is so cruel to what the Game is now... I dig their target renders... too bad they missed the target.
-
The vegetation quality, diversity and density is very nice in this video... all in-game asset they say. with the shaders on it's going to be even better. The faces look like Crysis too, and they put great effort into making as many of them different so you don't have the clone effect you get in other games. Add to that the super detailled cockpit, free-roaming island, multi-staged particles effects, realitic weapons, tons of animated parts, hatches, doors... a shitload of vehicles. Man this is going to be so good. Edit : and apparently it's got great physics too (no wonder, it's an award winning rally engine they use ! not an outdated 2001 engine...)

Operation Arrowhead and DirectX 10/11 Support
EricM replied to Preacher1974's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Unless it was humor, I believe it's Ad-nauseam (until you have nausea, not go to the museum). Apart from that I agree with you : "engine changes" for arrowhead means mostly more Fixes + FLIR and lasers + maybe new MFD/Render to Texture system ??? (see Apache pics, though they could be static or mostly faked as in the Cobra or Ka52). -
Operation Arrowhead and DirectX 10/11 Support
EricM replied to Preacher1974's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
BIS said they tried DX10 but it wasn't worth it : too little new features and Vista exclusive... Given the number of gamers still on XP, it would have been quite detrimental to the sales... DX11 will add substantially more things, improve on DX10 features and work for Vista and Windows 7. Thanks to tesselation, maybe we'll see micro-bumps again in the terrain (like OFP "very high" terrain) in Arma 3... But I wouldn't expect anything drastic in AO, unless it is delayed substantially. -
Don't you have voxel acceleration support in DX11 ? Could that be a solution in the future (Arma 3?) for long distance grass...
