I'd love a replacement addon like that... It would really give another sense to the whole FARMA series...

ARMA3 - Brand new engine or backward compatibility?
EricM replied to maddogx's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I'm amazed that no one noticed that BIS is already developping a new engine... You should look at the Carrier Command thread from time to time people... At worse, it's a nice testbed for new technologies to pimp up RV and at best it's the foundation for the new "Arma 3" engine... In any case it's a complete rewrite (though it was stated it shares some algorithms and linda vegetation from RV. -
NEW BIG QUALITY MAPS : while you can find plenty of community addons for guns, units and vehicles, good and large maps are very scarce, not mentioning ones featuring custom buildings and flora. If there's ONE domain where no one can compete with BIS so far, is for their countries, like Chernarus o Takistan.

CM Operation Flashpoint 3 announced | "Oops, they're doing it again..."
EricM replied to Undeceived's topic in OFFTOPIC
You never know... Ego being their engine for many games, it would make sense for them to invest a significant amount of resources into new features to make it future proof and be able to use it for everything. I'm pretty sure CM developpers are more than aware of the limitations they ran into when developping Dragon Rising : Entity count and draw distance, 4 square km mp tether, units draw distance, physics etc... -

CM has announced the development of the Ego Engine 2, probably in light of the limitations of the first one. -
Do you want upgraded Arma 2 content?
EricM replied to AnimalMother92's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I'm ok to buy more stuff to support BIS, but I feel Arma 2 content should be patched to OA standard with an OA patch, not a DLC. To me, this seems more like a "fix" than anything else. I have plenty of other ideas of things I would buy from BIS to fund more development, but some things like that should be included by default. -
British Troops DLC released & Official 1.01 Update
EricM replied to Pauldarrington's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
That's reductio ad absurdum. A missing screw or unlikely but possible combination of existing hardware in a given time frame isn't the same as lasers and spaceships. That's accurate enough for 90% of the people, the rest should get out more, because it's already more accurate than pretty much anything else. To go 100% perfect would require a silly amount of resources (reseach, modeling etc...) for virtually no gameplay improvement. The big picture is what's important. -

It's not stated that they won't either... The whole point of DLC is to fund further development and patches. if DLC sells well, this could very well allow bis to patch Russian and Marines to OA FLIR for instance in a regular patch. -

EricM replied to Undeceived's topic in OFFTOPIC
Hell Yeah... Last time there was OFPDR, we got FLIR in Arma 2 as a consequence... I wonder what BIS will be cooking for us this time... No wonder though : with all what they promised and what they delivered, they must have a ton of half-baked assets here and there to finalize and reuse... Plus they might have learned something in the way... -
PS Eye is definitely compatible, and it's a very good cam, with more emphasis on fps than other webcams which tend to sacrifice framerate for image quality. There are free PC drivers from codelaboratory.
-
I just got a PS Eye, and it's much better now, especially with the second update. It's not as responsive as the real thing with smoothing on, but that's playable now. And it's free + no funny clip or hat to wear.

You're wrong ? edit : nevermind, look at previous page. And more opportunities for Blue on Blue, isn't that great my dear Team America ?. I didn't know British bashing was the new French bashing... -

If there's a campaign, I'm pretty sure they recorded voices for that... -
British Troops DLC released & Official 1.01 Update
EricM replied to Pauldarrington's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
That's for the SP campaign. Then there is MP. I suppose that behind the obsevation team, there's an army too... no too far. For instance, Czechs and Germans don't appear in the campaign but were featured as a bonus. You get Taki airplanes too, probably for MP reasons more than anything else. Tanks are a big part of MP, where as a target or vehicle. -
British Troops DLC released & Official 1.01 Update
EricM replied to Pauldarrington's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Why no Official Challenger ? It's not very hard to model : bulky box on threads + no interiors... Yes, there's already one made by the community, but the whole concept of a faction package is to make it complete enough to have a standard MP game while assuming everybody has the same units... otherwise, why not download everthing from the community already ? (apart from supporting BIS development, obviously). Edit : Still time to go... there's still hope. -
ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead discussion thread

This is nonesense... It's just a reviewer spreading tales of what he heard about previous versions... I havent' encountered any obvious ones yet in OA, so "Mountains of Bugs"? Come on... be serious. -
It works (albeit being shaky) on win7 64...

No need to buy Combined operation if you already have Arma2. Just get OA and install it over Arma 2, both will combine to give you the same result. It certainly adds in terms of gameplay and variety in your arsenal and landscapes. If you have a beefy video card, you can use new video effects even on Chernarus + a lot of small improvements which do make a difference in the end. Massive or not, is up to you to decide, but you will soon find it hard to play MP if you don't own both, as many servers will consider it a requisite (unlike queens gambit in it's time) As a whole, I prefer Arma 2 because I prefer the settings and campaign was longer and more immersive (bugs aside, but I never had a major pb with it) but OA is a no brainer if you like the series. And CQB is better OA... And eventually, this is a rethorical question. For me it's not either/or, but both !
-
I was refering to the expansion in itself, not the campaign only : A mini-OA could be : 1 new large quality map + 1 new blufor/opfor faction + a small campaign a la OA featuring the new content.
-
Combined operations ? The new toys are great, but nothing beats chernarus in my book
-
Did the netcode change ? I played Takistan Benny's Warfare in OA multiple times on different servers with good pings (at first) and I seemed to notice more warping of AI at a distance and I lost connection after an hour or two of gameplay each time. Never really happened before in Arma 2. It could be on my side, though, or mission related, or simple coincidence, but I wondered if other people experienced it.

I think the attention to detail is already outstanding for a game of this scope... I wouldn't call them lazy at all. But with so much inside, you can always find something no as good as the rest. -

EricM replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Hum... No... in OA faces are hotter than the rest of the body, same goes for vehicles which have their tires/tracks and engine heat up as they drive, same goes for canons etc... OA Flir is as subtle as one can get, or are you refering to old arma 2 system ? -
