Currently admirable Elite AI in Showcase: Infantry?
EDcase replied to Sneakson's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
I think AI do spot movement more quickly than static targets but I agree that it should take them much longer to spot you if you're not moving. -
I'd rather they reduce the sky brightness in the morning and evenings rather than throw more bit depth and fps at the problem. What about realism... We dont see in HDR (most HDR images look awful and so fake) The self illuminated sky is just a bit too bright compared to the ambient light on the ground in mornings and evenings. BIS reduced the HDR effect a lot since it had a problem with brighness detection and made everything dark when there was a tiny bit of brightness in the view. That would be the proper way to do it but they couldn't get the senitivity right.
-
I haven't really checked various times but in the Vehicle Showcase the sky seems over bright compared to how little light there is on the ground.
-
Could be body armor? Bullets can hit the weapon without causing damage too.
-
Yes it does but I'm sure its not easy even if they hire lots of extra people. (they still have to be trained to use the tools) BIS would have to start again completely. It would be great if they can do that once ARMA3 is released and then have a big update in a year or so when its done. ...but I don't think it will ever happen... :(

Currently admirable Elite AI in Showcase: Infantry?

I think units created by default in the editor have the most basic setup so they are not a good example. I do hope that eventually the editor will be more powerful in setting parameters rather than having to use scripts and command lines... -
I have them set to a second mouse wheel and to be honest I still don't use them much. The only time they are useful is looking/firing out of windows and the keys work fine for that since you don't have to change so often.

"Combat Stance 3 seconds" - will I need this?
EDcase replied to tortuosit's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Well I guess its good to have so that people can set it up the way they want... More options = better I think its for people who play with cross-hair on (most unfortunately) In my opinion playing with cross-hair and 3rd person ruins the unique experience of ARMA but each to his own I guess. -
Yes, I think the problem is that the animations are for the whole body so the swap animation has no moving legs and cannot be merged with walking legs. Its a pitty they can't separate torso-up animations from torso-down (legs)

Nope, haven't seen that and can't think I'd ever need it. I never use "combat ready" stance anyway. Just go to optics non scope. -

The AI in ARMA are not scripted at all. (unless its specific to a mission)Its all based on rules and parameters that define their behavior. eg There is a parameter "allow fleeing" which will determine at what danger level they will decide to retreat. To me the AI generally behave quite well and intelligently. Taking cover and firing while leaning etc. They tend to get a bit confused when very close to them. My gripe is their default accuracy and spotting skills. They can spot you very quickly even unmoving prone behind a bush. They should spot an enemy in that situation but not so quickly. ...And the most annoying is their accuracy. Seeing their tracers they are more accurate standing than we are prone. On Veteran they will kill you within 1 or 2 shots after spotting you through folliage in under a second. At the moment the only way to defeat them is either pick them off from long range or be very close and move fast (which is fine). Its the middle distance in heavy foliage that they have too much advantage. -
That will come. They are working on sounds...

Scope optics are way too dirty at the moment.

*SUGGESTION* Explosive Satchels too high up on the Menu, Please fix!!
EDcase replied to Mechwarrior0311's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
You can bind it to that if you want. The scroll menu is a pain but its often needed as options that should come up with the icon in the middle of the screen aren't reliable. -
I'd like a radio system like ACRE using ingame VoIP but not tied to external software.
-
Rain bouncing on roofs :D JK Sounds exciting anyway...

A large benefit of a projector over mutli-screens is that you don't have to render a huge resolution so your fps is higher.
-
A way to simulate keeping both eyes open on a monitor screen would be to have the weapon semi-transparent. Hmm, no thanks What I do is shoot and then move the weapon down a bit to see the impact point. It doesn't need much movement to clear the view. You just have to remember where the sights were aimed when you fired. Sorry but I think its good the way it is

I used 'Aim deadzone' in ARMA2 at about 1/3 It does take some getting used to like anything different but it really is great [when it works] I can't understand why its not fixed yet. Its just the mouse sensitivity is messed up. I guess its more difficult that we/I think or BIS just have so much other stuff to do/fix. But they said they were concentrating on the infantry aspect at the moment and thats quite a big part of it.

I use Kave's too and I think the walking sound has always been behind the player. I constantly have to look back after hearing footsteps. What bothers me more is directional sound effect is lost when sources are nearby. Like vehicle engine or someone firing next to you has no direction, its all around which is wrong.

Yes, it would record on the server since its handling the data for all players. The Hard drive of the server is not used much so it would be perfect for recording the data. Remember this is NOT the same as recording video. Its much less data. Err... duno what you mean there. It would record position/rotation etc for each character onto HD of the server. That would probably need to be converted into a normal mission to play back with a camera script. I don't know if it would be possible to add controls to rewind/fast forward etc?
-
If they had dissmemberment they would have to make ARMA3 an 18 rating and lose a lot of sales. Hopefully we'll see a mod to 'fix' it ;)
-
Duno what that's supposed to mean. Yes, it IS a video game Make a ticket Opticalsnare. Hopefully they can document the settings at least. I can't wait for your magic ;)

While this is true, the problem is that making it accurate to human eye is also quite boring. I think we are so used to seeing films portray war and archive footage etc that we accept a cameras view as being real. That means accepting camera limitations such as under/over exposure, flare, noise, dirt on lens etc as showing us being in the action.

I think it should be extended. A helicopter can skid on the ground even at quite high speed and not crash as long as you are pointing straight. With PhysX there should be more dynamics to collisions. So you can damage the landing gear/skids without crashing the chopper unless you hit sideways.
