When you notice slowdown try: Shift & numpad - then type: flush (you will not see any text typing) That clears the video RAM but duno if it will help...

Disappointed by lack of enterable buildings in towns
EDcase replied to -=seany=-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Agreed but I don't think it will be changed. We'll have to wait for mod maps... -
-Make sure the HDD is fast (7200rpm 16mb cache) -Don't know about CPU so can't comment. -Ram: 4Gb is plenty (ArmA2 only needs 2Gb) but 800mhz is slow. Try to get 1600mhz if compatible with motherboard -Gcard:9600GT will struggle badly. Look at GTX260 or HD4890 -PSU 500W is fine but for better cards mentioned above 600W would be plenty (unless you want to go Xfire or SLI) Monitor going blank: Don't know if its PSU related Check that its not overheat.

Wait for next patch and if it still runs bad then get an ATI HD4890 (best bang for buck) (I have an Nvidia GTX285 so I'm not biased towards ATI) My friend has an HD4890 and his fps are quite close to mine.

Hi Tozzifan, There are many options in Difficulty settings. You have the presets but you can double click on them to modify specific settings. I use Veteran mainly to turn off the crosshair though that option can be turned off in any of the difficulty presets. When playing MP the server/mission sets the difficulty settings. I also have headbob around 25-30% so I can't see clearly when running (realistic) but I can still see enough to spot an enemy close by and its to too tiring on the eyes.

cri74: Sounds like the update file is incomplete/corrupt and she needs to get another copy. It may have damaged the original install so if the new update doesn't work then best to re-intall from scratch. h- I also have that problem sometimes where the video options screen will not show but its not all the time so I'm not bothered. Besides 1.03 should be out soon...

Safe mode: men will keep up with you (squad leader) my running if needed. Aware: They will move more cautiously and lag behind if leader runs fast. Danger: They move very slowly and go prone often. They will not run to catch up. I found a potential bug (have to check tracker). If you make waypoints for an AI squad and you make the first as safe, when they are attacked they will not react.

Unfortunately ArmA2 does not support Roll axis (at the moment) Hopefully soon someone will create a mod to allow all degrees of freedom... (DoF) Like ArmA1:

Strange. I'll keep an eye out for that and report back...

Louder interior sound for shells hitting vehicles
EDcase replied to Blake's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
YES! Hits should be louder than anything else when you are in a vehicle -
I haven't tried it myself but ArmA2 does support multiple controllers at the same time so you should be able to fly with joystick and drive with wheel & pedals. The planes do have a few levels of thrust. Not sure if its 3 or more. Cars have at least 3 levels of throttle but I don't know how that translates to a slider or pedals.

Some tips for those experiencing performance issues...
EDcase replied to Eugefunk84's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I tried it on 8 and that does introduce mouse lag. I set it on 4 and seems to be better. -
Larger bullet hitting ground effect (dirt/dust)
EDcase replied to fhil's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
NOOOoooo I hated that in ArmA when bullets hit the ground to see that stupid dust kick that goes several feet up into the air. The dust kick in ArmA2 seem fine to me. ChaplainDMK: I agree that the mounted weapons like on the choppers are damped way too much. -
The full game will play exactly the same. That first mission is quite small so you might notice lower fps when playing a very big mission with lots of AI on the main map of Chernarus. But it shouldn't be very different. BTW I play on a Q6600 2.4ghz, GTX285, XP32 and it runs very well too. ;)

Slow down in FPS when giving orders
EDcase replied to vasmkd's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Yes, I noticed something like this yesterday. Only happened once. In a warfare mission when selecting AI squad members in I got stuttering of the game where it actually froze for a second then played for a second then froze again etc. As soon as I finnished giving orders it went back to normal ~30fps. I'm only on a Q6600 so I think thats my problem. -
Graphical Error, anyone else getting this one?
EDcase replied to RyanM's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
The hat geometry has inverted normals (inside out) I also have GTX285 and never had any problems. (I am on WinXP32 tho) I'm using drivers 182.50 -
I also have TrackIR5 and when I changed Gcard I got the editor double click problem. I tried several things:re-setting machine, changing video drivers including older ones. Then it started working again. I don't know what fixed it but for me it seemed to have been related to the gcard drivers.

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
EDcase replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Well it will get locked or moved but in the meantime... Lasn1ght: I think the CPU and ram are enough but the graphics card is what suffers in a laptop and you will never match desktop performance for the same price. If you really have to have a laptop then I suggest having a look at these two: 15" screens http://www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk/acatalog/nexus.html Gcard is GTX260m http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-004-OK Gcard is 9800GTS (not quite as good as GTX260m) If you want 17" then there are other options -
Always better to drive yourself and switch to commander or gunner when you need to.
-
You do have to select a suitably open LZ and then there is no problem. It is a pitty the AI pilot can't tell if the LZ is good or not.
-
Dogs should at least be able to bite...
-
I haven't tried this online but when hosting a LAN game the map view has an option to see the list of players and by clicking on a name there is a button to kick them.
-
Sounds good to have that ability ad should be possible with an addon. We should also have the ability to "recruit" AI soldiers from other AI squads.

1 suggestion about shadows and helicopters.
EDcase replied to Kenjineering's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
I agree it would be great to have proper soft shadows but unfortunately its a limitation of the game engine. (Personally I don't like the stuttering rotors and would prefer a blurred disk) -
I noticed this in the campain missions. I think BIS used a timer for empty enemy vehicles to explode after a short time so you can't easily capture it and use its firepower to complete the mission too easily.
