Elyx: Its impossible for us to tell you if you will like it. I think its the best game ever and I play mostly sinle player at the moment. It has ENDLESS replayability due to excellent editor and constant addons and missions. You MUST try the demo and see if the general feel is good for you. Since its such a large scale and comprehensive battlefield simulation the learning curve is steeper than your average shooter. For me thats what makes it more interesting and gives it more life. Yep, By yourself or with a few AI the FPS depends solely on the GPU. With lots of AI more load goes to the CPU and that will become the bottle-neck. I'm a bit surprised that your i7 is that affected by 200 AI but I suspect its because of the graphics card. Reduce your graphic settings a bit as the 4890 is not a top end card. Try these settings and see if it looks OK:(viewdistance around 4k) Normal___________High Very High________Normal Normal___________High Normal___________High With these settings on a GTX285 I get around 40-60fps alone on Utes (~150fps when I look up or down). Things slow down with lots of AI because I only have a Q6600 (2.4GHz)

I agree. There should be an option to turn off map textures.

Not quite true. ArmA2 depends on GPU ALOT!! CPU is mainly needed for AI and GPU does the visuals. Shadowze: You will see an improvement if you go SLI but I don't think it will be 2x faster. Maybe wait until patch 1.04 is out as that is supposed to improve game performance. Then decide if you need more.

I know these things can be done with mods but I'd prefer if it was in the vanilla game. ACE was great but it did slow things down a bit. Needs variable throw strength. It would be cool to have the ability to throw left and right around a corner but that would need new anims.

Yes, thats what I'm saying. Its not right that the helo should bounce on the rotors. They should get damaged (removed/damage model) so they no longer work. The damage could increase (lift reduced) for each with the rotor. The number of contacts and severity before failure could depend on the difficulty setting.

I think the mouse fire button MUST be LEFT. You can add other bindings but putting it on the right may be confusing it as its an unusual button to use.

So you are saying that it was workinng well for 2/3 weeks then went bad? Obvious question: what happened just before it went bad??? You'll probably say "I didn't do anything" but what about Windows auto update or other auto-updaters for anti-virus etc...? Are you using version 1.03? My rig is quite similar to yours and I get fps ranging from 40 to 20 and its still playable. (of course I wish it was 60 but we'll see what patch 1.04 can do for us)

Damn, what a bummer. Just to let you know that its normal for there to be only 8 boxes ticked before screen goes black. Some people had problems like this that were fixed by updating DVD drivers/firmware. Good luck mate, hope you get it going...

I don't even bother using the UAV. Have you updated to 1.03? Apparently its had some fixes but I haven't been able to check yet. I believe the controls are the same as other aircraft but some things like up/down are dissabled in the campaign missions.

Not sure but it sounds like it could be an overheat problem on the graphics card. The 9800GTX runs quite hot at the best of times. As its happening sooner and sooner it could be on the way out. Try monitoring temps and use a desk fan with the case open as a test.

The processor should handle small missions but the graphics card needs updating for sure.

Yes, I've come across this problem plenty of times :mad: Its also a problem to order a unit into a vehicle if there are several of the same type around. :(

I loved the Vietnam mod for OFP so yes, I'd love one for ArmA2 if it could be done without killing the frame rate.

I understand what you mean and yes, its very annoying. The only way around it is to order AI in vehicle AFTER humans are in.

I haven't read all the posts in this thread so it may have been mentioned but the reason why OFP2 has more attention is because its being released on Xbox and PS3. Its simple numbers. There are FAR more console players than PC. Simple as that!

Yep, best thing to do is restart that mission I'm affraid. I've had to restart a mission a few times because of some glitch but in a game thats so big and dynamic its understandable that these things can happen.

I think some people have had problems with the DVD detector not working and updating the DVD drive firmware fixed it. Try and update your DVD drive firmware or driver. Hope u get it working...

You have to make a shortcut of the ArmA2.exe Just right-click on it and you get the option "create shortcut" Then you'll be able to edit the command line

No, I haven't noticed that myself. I think when arma runs the first time it analyzes your system to find optimum settings but I guess it doesn't always find the best value so you can push it up.
