Who cares about that other dead game. We're talking about ARMA2:OA here... My comments on ARMA2 AI: They are really good sometimes and I've seen them react just like a human taking cover etc. BUT other times its as if AI caluations have been turned off and they just stand in place while being attacked. It seems that the AI get worse the closer you get which I suppose isn't that surprising as the calculations would need to be faster to react quickly in CQB mode. When there are lots of AI that need to share the CPU time for their algorithms the close AI in CQB mode are at a dissadvantage. In general I'm happy with the AI but of course I wouldn't complain if they are improved ;) On a side note: What do you think of the maps? I'm not too keen on the new terrain in A2:OA There just isn't enough cover in the landscapes to make a town approach feasible. There should be more rocks or boulders. We will see.... From the italian review footage: The IR scope looking the same in daylight as it does at night is a huge oversight in the new IR simulation. With all the effort and detail thats gone into it this is a big mistake. I hope its just because it was unfinished (yes I know its gone gold but may have been older version in review)

If you have the full version do not install the Demo. That will just make a mess. Check for any ARMA entires in "user" folder. (try a search for "arma" on all drives) and delete everything you find. Then try a re-install. If still doesn't work copy the contents of the DVD to HD and install from there.

Yeah, let us know how it goes. Just in case: Be aware that scenarios are addon dependant. If you create a mission in the editor it will need the same addons to run. Or if you download a mission it may depend on addons which you must have to play (it will usually tell you which ones on the download page)

Actually you should. Since its recommended by NVidia themselves then it must be because there are potential issues they have come across if you don't. The best way I have come accross is to uninstall all NVidia drivers from windows and reboot into safe mode. Then run Driver Cleaner or Driver Sweeper to clean out the left over files. Then reboot normally and install new drivers.

No because its all compressed. (Thats why it takes so long to install) You can try to copy the whole DVD to HD (doesn't matter which) and install from there.

Overclocking should be a last resort after all other settings have been tweaked to get max performance. Overclocking (especially without much PC experience) can lead to many problems of overheating, instability and possibly hardware failure. True that newer boards have OC protection but its certainly not good for the CPU to overclock it without proper cooling and knowledge.

Hi and welcom Chappi, Can't think of anything definite but try HD defrag before you install. Better to install to a second drive (Not C:) if you have one. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think you should be able to go from 1.02 directly to 1.05 (then the latest patch from here) If you have room try and copy the DVD to HD/memory stick and install from there. (some DVD players don't like the copy protection) Good luck...

Lol, yeah. Matt its only asking where to extract the install files to. Then you can run the "Setup.exe" from that folder to actually do the DirectX installation.

Can only suggest uninstall and reinstall from scratch. Its not actually that painfull. You should install the latest patch as well.

Yes, this has been mentioned several times though I haven't seen an explanation myself. Keep trying searches. Have you tried without any addons? All drivers up to date? (really important of course) HD defragged?

Patrick: You say you checked but it sounds like a gcard overheat problem. What were your temps while playing? I use this simple temp monitor. Over 80c is bad

Hi Grim, Sounds like it might be the graphics card overheating. The 9800GTX does run hot. Check the gcard temps while playing. This is quite good if you don't already have a program to use. If the temp of the CPU(s) or graphics card goes over 80c then you need better air circulation in your case. Make a note of temps when ARMA2 crashes and post back. Also delete the ARMA2.rpt file before you start to play then paste it here when it crashes. Good luck...

Hi and welcome Bomber Jacket, Your system should be OK to run ARMA2 but not with full settings. The retail version with the latest patch runs much better than the demo but its still the most demanding game on hardware that exists so it may not look as good as youtube vids. (check their system specs) Make sure to defrag the HD and dissable any unecessary services (if you know how)

Hi Matt, You can extract it to anywhere. Maybe use c:/temp After its all done intalling (and tested) you can delete the folder it made. Nam Assassin: YES, you need latest DirectX

Have u tried editing the launch parameters yourself? C:\ArmA2\beta\arma2.exe -nosplash -world=empty -mod=beta;@ACE;@HiFi;@ (etc)

I loved the but I think there is lots of potential for BIS to improve the gameplay without damaging the concept.I sure don't want exactly the same game again. That would be pointless. If you want to play the original just get an emulator...

Or get "WINRAR" which can open and create all formats

Disappointed how IR scope and (presumably aircaft FLIR) works during daytime. Basically it should have almost no contrast during the day as everything is hot except in the shade.

Easterngames: If flying helicopters (and other aircraft) is your main interest I would strongly suggest getting a TrackIR is how it works in ARMA2.If the price isnt a problem you will really benefit when flying. (soldier use is good too but needs practice)

Hi Jason, Yes, Windows 7 is not as efficient as WinXP so it runs slighlty worse (from my own experience using XP32 and Windows7-64) Of course if you have more than 4Gb it gets better. I assume you have loaded the latest graphics driver. Here is a good place to get them. The general rule with this game is that all visuals are handled by the graphics card and all AI movement (soldiers, vehicles, etc) is handled by the CPU. If course in real world terms the CPU has to communicate with the GPU to sync everything so having a slow GPU will slow down a fast CPU.

Hi and welcome GunBlazing99, This game is a true sandbox application. That means that the game-play depends almost entirely on the mission maker. There are two types of multiplayer game style,PvP amd CoOp but there's a huge number of variations that can be achieved. If you haven't already seen it, have a look here to get an idea of the flexibility and variation possible with this game. As for the PC specs to run it. I'm affraid that's the downside. A game of this magnitude needs a very powerful PC to run well and there is no PC yet that can run everything on full. I would say a good machine to aim for would be an i7-920 and NVidia GTX285 (or equivalent ATi) Just download the demo to get a rough idea of performance. Keep in mind that the new patches for the full game do make it run quite alot smoother (better fps)

Welcome easterngames, Thats how a real helicopter and all aircraft behave, unless I missunderstood your problem. The aircraft behave the same as in any simulator. (with slight differences of course) Auto centering to hover is only in arcade games. If you get into trouble and want to hover automatically there is an option to do that in mouse menu and key shortcuts. Don't worry, its all about practice ESPECIALLY if you're used to flying arcade style.

I've tried the anaglyph too and its great to test and get an idea of what it could be like but there is no way I would invest in monitor and proper glasses for ARMA until BIS fix problems with shadows, smoke, crosshairs etc. 3D is coming to the masses soon.

Don't think there is a way to show their current modes. Yes, it would be good if their current mode were highlighted in the command list. I just re-issue the command I want if I'm not sure.
