Cannot Initalize DirectInpit. (DirectX 8 Required) - Error
EDcase replied to Crierd's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Version of Arma? Would be useful to list everything at the beginning. May not be related but I read that ATI users had problems with Cat 10.6 and found 10.4 much better. -
Duno if this will help but I read that many ATI users had problems with Cat 10.6 and found 10.4 much better.

I get better performance with it at 0

Lol yeah, there is alot of 'stuff' in this forum to get through. The AI in a machine gun nest can be killed from the front but its really hard as there is only a narrow gap to get him in the head. Its best to approach from the side or even behind to get him easily. When he's dead he should appear as a body behind the bunker. (I haven't experienced a bug sofar) Sorry, can't help with the ACE mod as I don't use it or know how Steam version works.

Yeah Richie, I think you're taking these comments too hard. I LOVE OA but I think with all the effort they've put into the thermal system its a bit of an oversight to leave the ambient temperature out of the equation completely. Especially since all they have to do is lower the contrast and add brightness during the day. (hopefully progressively up to maximum at midday and then back down in the evening)

Cannot Initalize DirectInpit. (DirectX 8 Required) - Error

What OS? -
^ Obviously OA IR is too effective. The trees should be hotter. This is not the same as open desert of course.

Cannot Initalize DirectInpit. (DirectX 8 Required) - Error
EDcase replied to Crierd's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Did you install THIS DirectX 9? -
Its true that tactics can overcome technology but the fact remains that the OA IR scopes are more effective than the real thing.
-
Thermal sights are NOT as effective during the day as ambient heat levels are much higher and so there is less distiction between human body heat and surroundings. In hot countries (like Takistan) the ground would be at a higher temperature than a human. This reduced thermal bandwidth means the image should have much less contrast during the day (Everything will be towards the white/hot end of the spectrum). Humans will still be visible but not as contrasty as it is now. Its hard to find examples of daytime use but I think one is. one is dawn/dusk and even so the people blend into the surroundings quite alot. You can see that the people have similar thermal levels to the surroundings. This is how it should look in OA daytime. VOTE if you agree: http://dev-heaven.net/issues/12134

Exactly, good point. Install the latest DirectX 9

Well, I can't think of anything else right now. Hopefully someone will give other ideas... You should post this issue with dump files to the CIT

Hmm, There is no mention of mobile GPUs so I assume they are universal. Not sure but it will only give you an error if its not compatible so you can still give it a try. (I'd go for the 258.49 WHQL) Also try the BETA for OA. Its fixed issues for me in the past and its easy to remove. (Just delete Beta folder. NOT uninstall)

Flubadoo: What version game are you on? Make sure you have updated to latest. Try the latest Nvidia driver as 195 is quite old. Also try without the OC just to be sure.

recoil for mounted, static weapons
EDcase replied to andromedagalaxe's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Yeah, I'd agree with that. Add more kick with heavy mounted machine guns. -
Can we make the new recoil model optional?
EDcase replied to arthur666's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
The new recoil is certainly better than the old one but still needs some tweaking. Not talking about realism but just the gaming experience, firing and waiting for the aim to reset by itself is just wrong and boring. With a real rifle (yes I have fired a few) You use your muscles to compensate for the kick and re-aim. So now you use the mouse to re-aim. It does take some getting used to as we have become lazy with the old way but this just brings more fun back into shooting. -
High FPS....But: Stutter/ Input Lag/ Viewport Jitter etc
EDcase replied to -=seany=-'s topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
This is very strange. In the campaign I get quite low fps (27ish) but it feels smooth enough when playing and no stuttering. I haven't had the time to do much other testing yet. i7 920@3.6 GTX285 6Gb Win 7-64 Nvidia and game profile "Frames render ahead"= 0 (This makes it more responsive for me) -
!Arma 2 exe stop's responding! help please!!
EDcase replied to bushwacker's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Hmmm, thats a nasty one. Sorry I can't help, I'm too busy playing OA Bit sensitive aren't you... -
Hi fanto, What is your texture memory set to in graphics options? Strange, I had the same out of memory crashes before 1.07 but not after.

I'd pay for different era units and equipment packs: WWII Vietnam/Korea With enough content these could be sold as complete conversions. (same price as OA) I know some of these things are available from moders but I'd prefer to have BIS quality stuff as one complete package instead of lots of bits from different sources. ------------------------ As for distribution: I haven't seen anyone mention Sprockets. Thats the way BIS gets the most return. Piracy is a tricky one but could something be done where you put in your original code from OA|ARMA2 and it generates a key based on your CPU id. Registering your code online to get a key would be another idea but requires more resources.

Joystick detected but not working
EDcase replied to badmorning's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I haven't tested yet but I think the ULB cannot be controlled directly. Like the UAV its semi-autonomous so you just click on the map to give it waypoints. -
ArmA 2 Performance Problems with v1.07
EDcase replied to DeclaredEvol's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Last official version didn't have these options at all. ------------------------- Alexc, I'm honestly surprised you could run ARMA or anything with 2gb in Win7. Mine uses 1.8gb at startup and I've dissabled alot of unused services. All I can suggest is to try different settings with cpuCount and exThreads (I think exThreads=0 is equivalent to how it was in 1.05) -
What ATI drivers Tommy? I've seen people have problems with the latest and state that 10.4 are best

Arma 2 freeze after 10/15 min... also withpatch 1.02
EDcase replied to Allions's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
System specs? Sounds like it could be an over-heat problem. Check gcard temperatures while playing and see what it is when this happens. -

EDcase replied to Allions's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
This is a thread from last year. Have you tried latest patch? (ARMA2=1.07 OperationArrowhead=1.52) Look for a more recent post regarding freezing/ctd.
