    Been playing since beta. It has its moments of sheer beauty and huge scale battles but gameplay gets repetitive. As has been said, there are balance issues. You know things aren't working properly when every base capture ends with spawn camping/raping and there is no hope for defenders to change the outcome. A few of my friends love it and I will continue to play but as soon as ARMA3 comes out I'll drop it like a hot potato. (Hey Opticalsnare: Just noticed we joined 4 days appart 6 years ago (nearly 7 now) :D)
  2. The page has been updated with more info and artist impression images. I'm sure with today's hardware they can make it absolutely EPIC Wing Commander didnt have the depth of Elite for me.

    ArmA 3 on Steamworks?

    No thanks. Reasons: 1. I make sure there are minimal processes running in the background. 2. I want to control how I run the game. (I have different icons for different versions and addons) 3. I want control of how I install plugins. (I've seen so many people with problems installing plugins with Steam) Does the question really matter? Aren't BIS going to release on Sproket, Steam & DVD anyway?

  5. Yes, I agree. What we have seen so far would be more appropriate for an earlier year. 2020 sounds good to me and seems right for the tech shown in game.
  6. Sorry but I disagree. No matter what date BIS sets us in ARMA3 I don't want to play with too futuristic stuff that changes the gameplay much from the previous ARMA experience. If you want to play with futuristic stuff then there are many games that offer that. From what I've seen, the balance seems right as it is sofar. The more futuristic things like power suits could be addons by BIS or the community.

    What is the future of this franchise?

    Well, we all know of the political problem (kidnapping) going on in a certain country at the moment and that could understandably delay A3 but to cancel it at this stage would take a really serious situation indeed. To OP: I have also been a constant player of the OFP franchise since 2001 but sometimes we need a break to try other games. I'm now playing Planetside2 until ARMA3 comes out. I think there are many others that just need a break but the servers will fill up with milsim fans again when A3 is released.

  9. My vote would be for option 1 (should not be able to loot blown up soldier & removing original model will help fps a bit) Only note would be to make models have less original body shape. Torso should be more like a mound of flesh with a few shreds of clothing visible.

    Controls Scheme & User Interface Feedback

    Yeah, not bad. I like most of your ideas. The command rose is quite well known now and I think it could work for most common actions. For me the weapon selection and fire modes is the most critical to get right as they need to be fast and clear. Of course its hard to know until actually trying it out. A very important aspect for BiS to get right is allowing for user key bindings (as they do currently) Everyone will want to change something so if its easy and clear to do then everyone will be happy.

    More realistic/depressing feeling

    As has been said before: A game cannot visualise emotions such as fear and force them on the player. These have to come from the players themselves. The idea is to make the player genuinely scared to poke their head around a corner rather than have some visual effect to say that they should be scared. What A3 needs to provoke these emotions is effective sound effects (including better 3d positioning) of bullet impacts nearby and perhaps some nice dust kicks (which could occasionally hit the screen if close enough)
  12. I understood the flight model would be linked to difficulty settings. Since the demos are done in low difficulty (crosshair & squad info) it would be using A2 but higher modes should use ToH.
  13. Yes it will be released in 2013 (hopefully 1Q) The community alpha should be available later this year though.
  14. Duno if it'll help with crashing but I guess at this point anything is worth a try :( Have you tried with -winxp in startup? Hope u get it sorted...

    Arma 3 hands on @ Gamescom 2012!

    Thanks for the info InstaGoat. Its looking pretty good to me especially considering there's still quite a lot of development time. One thing that I've noticed with the various videos is that there is hardly any recoil on the weapons. At the moment its looking a bit boring because its quite easy to spray bullets at an enemy and mow him down. I understand the "trained soldiers can control their weapons" thing but it needs some player skill to control the recoil.

Questions: -Will planes get an updated flight model like the helicopters? -Will there be support for 6 degrees of freedom for TrackIR (as with TakeOnHelis) Cheers Maybe cos its not finished yet....!?!?!? There's still quite a lot of time before release and AI is one of the hardest things to do. So we'll only know how good it is at the end.

    Why the silence in marketing this game?

    I would love to see more vids and stills flow from the development but alot of the work going into A3 is under the hood so not visible in imagery. Those 'other' games are becoming too cinematic and less interesting as games. Just like a movie with some interactive bits that are too similar; ie. sequences of shooting pop-up targets.
  19. I've noticed this respawn problem a few times playing on servers running Insurgency 1.50
  20. Anyone else get worse FPS with 1.62? :( EDIT: Deleting ArmA2OA.cfg made it better. Seems it didn't like 8 frames ahead NOTE: Get a few fps more with -winxp but still worse than 1.60 Average while playing Domination online. 1.60 avg. 60-70fps 1.62 avg. 40-50fps
  21. I also notice heavy LoD switching when I zoom in on buildings. Takes a moment to change AFTER zooming in. Note: this is after all textures are loaded Running from SSD FPS is also a bit lower than 1.60 :(
  22. Disable any mods you have. Don't use compatability mode. (Tried and crashes for me too) Put -winxp in startup line instead

  25. To be honest I wouldn't expect a hard core milsim to be that popular with gamers. Its kind of a niche market like flight sims. (Not as bad as train sims :D) It is good that it has brought more sales to our favourite developer ;) ..and there are a few players who have discovered the unknown Armaverse and embraced its deadly delights. To be honest, I'm glad that there's a bit of separation. It would be a mess if too many (new) players started jumping on other mission servers. It would be good to have a specific 'DayZ' filter button.
