  1. This is a great thread, I'm in a @ 100 member tactical COD clan (no RNG foolishness) and a bunch of us are moving into ARMA2 and we need all the help we can get figuring it out, getting a server up and running etc. I like the big maps, but it'd make it easier if we can set up a server in a more "transitional" smaller mode so everyone isn't wandering around lost.......

Setting up a server is the easiest, the worst is uploading all the data :D

If you like to play missions where the objective lets players "meet" in a small zone ( though there is no really small zone in combat environment like in ArmA, a small combat zone might still be a 500m radius due to the view distances and ranges the weapons have compared to CoD ) you should try competetive missions. You might want to hop onto our server and try out a couple of missions by yourself, there are missions with smaller areas and some with bigger areas. IP and server name are at the beginning of the thread, contact info too.

  2. Your in the wrong server then!:butbut:

There are servers that strive to play with some tactics and some that DEMAND those tactics. :)

You must be one of those lucky people to find a server where strangers try to play as a team. In almost every MP game i played team based missions on are mostly for one man armies. You might see 10% where people try to teamwork with others. Out of 100 players you might find one buddy who plays with you regularly if you are lucky.

  3. Some missions have a ranking system where you gain ranks with the points you gather. It's not part of the game like f.e. CoD or BF² where you gain points in every round you play. In ArmAs case the rank is bound to the server and saved afaik until the mission is restarted.

Find enemies using your eyes. Take your time to scan the horizon. This is not an action shooter where you have to run as fast as you can to gain an advantage over the enemy. Running only means exposure, you can see fast moving targets better than anything else. Patience is key.

I don't know the weapons for domination, if you want a scoped rifle with a decent amount of bullets and not too much recoil and good range there are only a few to choose from.

    SPR ( Mk12 ), DMR ( M14 or M21? ), SVD Dragunov

If you practice long enough you can be better with an M24 than a guy with a SVD.

  4. I guess im playing a diff game then,,, btw kello,, nice buddy,, im all for anyone willing to put the time and effort to help the game out,,,, especially the pvp side. :)

Depends on your location. Not in Germany. All you find here is whining about the bad performance of the game and making features to bugs as an excuse to boycot the game or because they are just bad players, killing the whole german ESL ladder before it even started. The only thing prospering over here are coop servers...and there they also whine about über AI shooting through gras and seeing through walls instead of playing vs human who have the same conditions as they do in a mp game. Seems to me it's just easier to blame an AI for being "better" ( cheatwise ) than admitting defeat to another human.

  5. Warfare is no original BIS afaik. It's based on the CTI modes from OPF and ArmA from a non BIS employee ( maybe he is employed now, i don't know ). But the basic idea wasn't theirs although they made a good version of the mission.

    BTT:

Try finding a group of players ( a clan f.e. ) with teamspeak and try to join their game. Most clans are happy to help beginners.

  6. Unfortunately, since addons are not automatically downloaded from servers, and new maps are addons, they usually do not get along nicely with newcomers

He is speaking of maps ( cod wise ) as "missions" like we know it from OFP / ArmA.

his Map ( CoD player ) = Mission for us ( ArmA player )

Maybe Hans Ludwig should just change the naming if he is not referring to islands to avoid confusion.

  7. The missions on our server are made for 4-6 per team ( with 1-2 capture points ). Those have smaller vehicles ( heaviest ist an APC ). Driving distance ~30 secs from base with a mobile respawn point.

Bigger missions have a bit more distance from base to the first point and can have up to 4 capture points. They are still playable with 5-6 per team because they are a kind of capture and advance type ( capture 1 to be able to capture 2, if you don't have 3 you can't capture 4 etc. ). Vehicles are heavy tanks, apcs, lighter vehicles, attack choppers with FFARs only to balance it a bit, CAS planes with limited guided AT missiles and standard weapons.

The largest mission can be played with 15 per team if i remember correct, most of them infantry to have more action in the 4 capturable towns.

Vehicles can be made respawnable in the settings but i would recommend no respawnable vehicles to have teams make more use of team tactics especially in smaller missions with one or two flags. ( unlike BF² where you just respawn, hop into the next tank and drive to a flag to be shot repeating the cycle again and again.)

Motorcycles can be spawned in the base for fast transport in case all vehicles are gone.

  8. Good thing you happend to find out you made a mistake. A2 is dead MP wise...until the next patch ( probably )

BIS should have put some effort in advertising like CM did though DR is a shitty game ( to my disappointment, i wished for an alternative to A2 for some competition ) in this state compared to ArmA 2 1.0 it managed to gather more players ( especially in the ESL Ladder ) than ArmA 1 and 2 did together. Maybe a little bribe here and there and some free games should have done the job ;)

    jk

  9. We have C&H missions ( ESL maps ) with limited or unlimited ( depending on the setting ) vehicle and weapons pool.

Maps have fixed classes or free classes ( you can choose your own equipment from a crate ) and some vehicles from light to heavy. Some even have planes or helicopters.

Note: The missions are suited for clans or groups of players who can work as a team due to the fact that these missions are league missions.

    Server IP address/name 85.14.217.164:2302 / www.umpc.de

Slots up to 30 depending on mission area size and capture zones

    Location Germany

    Website www.umpc-clan.de

Contact information: Steam name, Xfire, Email, etc.. Xfire. Enforcer1975

Types of maps/missions/addons/MP mod info. C&H

We are not enough players for bigger missions atm, but we would be happy having a funwar on small missions once and a while.

  10. I've yet to see any evidence of that. All I see are the sort of bugs that were in OFP 1 v1.00 (tanks sliding down hills anyone?) magnified 100 fold by the crappy implementation of havok.

For example. The game simulate mass better than ArmA. In ArmA you switch to the gunner position while in flank speed and that thing seems to have an automatic brake or an anchor it throws out. The tank almost stops instantly. Even the LAV in OFP DR has quite a braking distance from 60kph.

The best example for non existing vehicle mass is BF2 where you can evade infantry guided missiles by moving either forward or backwards in a tank from zero speed. I didn't see any evidence of sliding tanks, must have been a really steep hill you are talking about. You must have forgotten to engage the parking brakes :D

  11. Haven't found much simulated in OFP DR. Yes, they have better physics with vehicles, it would be a shame if they hadn't considering the engine was used for a racing game...

Simulation of the rocket launchers is great, too. But that's no innovation, AA already had this feature and the IR feature isn't that real as well. You can still see the cones of light on the floor and walls.

What doesn't make the game a simulation mainly on the infantry side is: you don't have a physical body like in ArmA 1-2 or OFP 1. You just have a weapon with two arms attached to it and even the reloading animation of the M16/M4 has a flaw.

This makes the game an action shooter without bunnyhopping. In this state OFP DR is right now i'd even prefer CoD when not playing ArmA.

  12. OFP doesn't live up to it's name. Good attempts, transformed badly.

Taken good elements of the last years shooters ( i see elements of BF² = command module, SMAW and JAV deployment = AA, Medkit? LOL, BF² etc. )

All in all good attempt, badly programmed. Wrong game for this kind of community. I am so disappointed, i was really hoping for a competetive game so at least BIS would feel the pressure and finally get their butts moving and remove all bugs faster than they planned ( or not ).

All in all ArmA 1 and 2 are many times closer closer to OFP than OFP :DR

A couple of things i would take to A2 would be.

The view distance ( one for all, no disputes about how far one wants to see ) and gras visibility

    The performance

Weapon deployment and targeting ( like the JAV or AA )

Minor equipment on the soldiers like bandages ( see field dressing )

IR capabilities ( see IR scopes )

The soldiers feel more like better equiped with all the gadgets than in ArmA.

  13. When i have these stutters i minimize the game and open the program, play a bit with the light filter or dot tracking ( random setting ), it works most of the time.

Funny thing is, sometime it works as nothing was wrong. The other day i have these stutters ( shifting to center to where i was looking the other moment ago ) all the time, the only way to repair it is to restart the whole program ( bad if you are in a game because you lose the ability to move the in game head ). I gave up on that and won't buy a TrackIR 5 either, i don't think my hardware ( TIR ) has a problem after seeing sp many people suddenly have the same problem as well. I had it since Vista independant of which software version 4.x or 5.x i use, never had a problem with XP.

  14. Noticable framerate drop like in Warfare, even with grass turned off. In PvP i have double the frames. Might not be the mission though. But it shows how much load the server and clients have with missions with ai.

btw...the original mission wasn't about mass murder. You had to kill 2 people in every town and not the entire town. You might want to try it with one killer first or add the option for one or two killers in a menu.
