Tanks: no magnification available when targeting?
EricJ replied to botmund's topic in ARMA - GENERAL
I said the 'terminology was correct for this purpose' not 'correct for the US field manual.' Slightly different. Pedantic git. No personal attacks mate, I know British slang. Â But the point is, if you're going to describe something, use the proper terminology, not what you think is because of national origin. Â Or get off your butt and really read the manuals so you understand. Â So A) You're wrong, and B) the issue is closed, have some tea and bugger off. And then again, who is a Brit telling an American what's the correct terminology in the first place? Â I mean, you do realize I am in the US Army right? Or you just didn't realize it and just roll on like some twit who thinks he knows it all because he's read it on the internet and never been on an actual tank before? Right? Thought so, next. -
Tanks: no magnification available when targeting?

Honestly, I'd like to see a thermal scope in ArmA. Â I was kind of hoping for one after wanting one in OFP for a long while. Â Like you said, the NVG worked well to help spot enemy armour in OFP, but in ArmA you can barely see out of the NVG during daylight (which is realistic). A thermal scope would give the Abrams the advantage that it actually has IRL. Â I'm pretty sure that the operational orders for the M1A1 and M1A2 have the gunner and commander using the thermal scopes at all times to spot enemy vehicles from a distance. I noticed that the driver's location for the Stryker ICV M2 is jacked up too. Â It should have a thermal sight as well. Â Matter of fact NVGs shouldn't be required as it shows in the screen (sorry, UK 1.05) some of the NVG and some of the screen without the NVG overlay. Â And is there a scripting way to raise/lower the seat? Oh and to be anal HamisUK, the proper term is CITV, or Commanders Independant Thermal Viewer. Â That's only on the A2, not the M1 or M1A1. Â TOGS is Challenger/Chally 2. I agree TOGS is the UK terminology for a gunners sight. It is however the correct term for this purpose. CITV as you pointed out is a moot point as it's the periscope sight on a the M1A2. Correct terminology for the M1 is GPS, or Gunners Primary Sight. Thermals are just part of the package, and not referred to as a seperate system, since it's all mounted in the "doghouse", which is where the GPS is mounted. It's best to use the correct terminology when dealing with the appropriate country's equipment, and it's never referred to as TOGS in any FM that the US Army produced, as the unknowing tend to believe that US armor crewman refer they're thermals as "TOGS", when it's just "thermals". Or more correctly "Switch to thermals", not "Switch to TOGS old chap." But anyways... -
This is an animation issue and a side effect of the "true first person" system. The fact that it happens is not related to the freeaim irons. The same issue is what caused the non-freeaim/view-locked-to-weapons irons to be so impossible to use. I know it's an anim issue, just that it needs to be a little quicker and less floaty. People discount the OFP/VBS1 system, but GRAW actually had it down pat, was easy to acquire, aim, and shoot rather quickly compared to ArmA.

It's at 150 meters when a 5.56 bullet is at it's highest point of the arc in it's trajectory.

Uh nothing, it's still needs to be patched.

Yeah oh well, didn't seem too bad when I tried last night, fire and adjust

http://www.binocularsmart.com/scopes/svd-rifle-scopes-pso-1.shtml That should help, the PSO-1 is used alot differently (a la the link) other than the mil-dot reticule that the Leopould uses (on the M24, Barrett), that link should help

No Multicam shites on AusCam. AusCam is for a specific area (desert Australia) while Multicam can work much much better. I know some Soldiers while I was in Benning last year and they said that they were able to get up to 30m without being seen during some testing, and AusCam would make you stick out in the woods, Multicam doesn't. It does what it's advertised. It's a great system

I'll agree to that, even walking/moving just is a little waaay too bouncy. Sure there's body movement always affecting aim, but I've never had my weapon move that much, even while running. Sure it's a nice improvement, but still needs some work and tweaking.
-
I think the issue is that you can't do it in real life, as there's no conceivable way that a driver has the time or honestly could see accurately all the time. The only way to aim and "fire" is via the intercom system Why BIS had it that way for OFP God only knows, and he hasn't told me.

shhh.... you're going to start another thread about what regular forces use (semi and burst only) versus always everything has an M4A1. To be honest with you I was surprised and glad the "vanilla" M4 was semi and burst, while the SF stuff was as it should be, semi and auto.

I've noticed also that the head models are also from VBS1, and Frandsen showed me a texture map of the M4A1, and well... looks like I can get away with maybe getting my old mod into ArmA when I get ArmA. Sure looks alot better with a bump map or is that just rendering? -
How do you know Russian soldiers don't carry rucksacks into battle. How do you know they do? Most of the Russian military is Mechanized, so that means they strap it to thier vehicle, and let it carry the weight, and dismount and take care of business. Once finished with thier business, they will link up with the BMP and use that. Your average Russian soldier doesn't really carry much compared to the US soldier, because they have gobs of transportation anyways. Plus they forage off the land, etc. etc. Besides olemissrebel is US military, so you would think people in the US military might know something about the old Russian Army, you think?

Anyway to get the LERXes highlighted on the side views?

I'm not too concerned about stretching since it's only dev shots. And It'll be fine :

Just a non-pic update. I managed to reskin the cockpit. As far as the MFDs Naoyuky.... you going to script some cool stuff or just texture it? All I got left to do really is the HUD projector and it can be called "finished"

A bit bright don't you think even for WIP?

Haha I bet you're still flying it.. don't lie Just can't get away from it.. with a new mapping, more work but what the hey : Don't worry Naoyuki, it's just restarting after taking a "break" from other addon work..
