My hard drive’s about to fail, any advice?

I have had plenty of matroxes over the years and only one has gone bad so far but in it's defence I really did mishandle it by letting it run way too hot. In my opinion, getting a good hard drive these days is a coin toss really unless you are going for something more expensive than your average sub-100e ATA hard drive.

    The Middle East part 2

I just find it hard to believe that a smallish country is more important to the USA than the substance that their and the rest of the developed world's economies require to function. Erm? I think I missing the message here. And they are quite damn justified to do so if it's the only way to stop iranians from getting the bomb. You can't say that they are not given any other options than the one they are executing now. Uh.. middle-east political cockfight gets out of hand, the arabs get their asses handed over to them, lose territory and try having a rematch some 6 years later? As far as peace goes nuclear weapons in rational hands have been more effective than ideological bickering. EDIT: Great, this also means that I have been called a terrorist symphatizer, an america-hater and a neocon so far on the same forum no less.

    The Middle East part 2

Correction, the USA itself prefers to be more powerful than anyone in the middle east and the way to accomplish that is to make your friends there stronger than your enemies. It's not some bullshit religious or ideological thing, it's all about controlling that precious little substance called crude oil. Of course they did. Why they'd want their potential enemies to get better weapons? They are also supplying countries like Saudi-Arabia and Egypt with abramses, cobras and god-knows-what. Believe me, I am no fan of US policy but not being santa claus when it comes to arms deals is hardly hypocricy. Bullshit, Israel's economy is not self-sufficient enough and nuking somebody first for no good reason would decimate that country. Iran would be going for those things no matter what, it's just an another way to get ahead in the enormous rat race which we call international diplomacy. Yom kippur war? Now, who were the ones that started it? I'd say it's as safe as before (in other words, not). Maybe even safer now that attacking Israel directly means getting your country wiped off the map if you succeed.

As a matter of fact North Korea did sign the treaty, ratified it and promised to abide by it. Too bad they withdrew in 2003. I just think a more pragmatic approach to this would be to contain the spread of nuclear weapons and reduce their amounts than go for the hopeless option of trying to remove existing nuclear arsenals.

Israel has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and it's not some somewhat unstable pseudo-democracy run by a bunch of fundies. It's a hell lot easier to prevent someone from getting something than have somebody let go of something that they have had for quite a time now. I think it's pretty fair to assume that treaties that Israel has not signed do not apply to Israel.

Sounds to be a constant lack of adrenaline, they should sit down on the nearest available chair and take some calming drugs used to manage various mental disorders. Realistically speaking, US and other coallition forces are totally unable to establish peace and security in Iraq, so invading Iran would just mean the start of an infinite war that might go against everyone. Regards Thunderbird84 Need calming down? They are goddamn lethargic compared to the post 9/11-posturing they had going on just before the 2003 Iraq war. As far as im concerned the osirak option should executed if necessary (kind of amusing since Iran tried to destroy Iraq's nuclear reactor before Israel) even if it means low-yield nukes. The last thing this world need is another bunch of fundamentalist loons with nukes. And thomas ryan.. paragraphs.

    Budget computer

How are we supposed to know if it's enough? Hell, i'd say we are lucky if ArmA comes out this year. If you are indeed buying a new computer just for ArmA, would'nt it make more sense to spare your money and get more for the same when (if?) it's released? Manuals are provided for a reason. Of course, but why get a more expensive boxed version then?

FYI, SATA is IDE as much as PATA. Anyhows, doubt PATA hard drive would slow things down too much. However, using one could mean potential compatibility problems (some SATA motherboards just seem to hate them) and recycling that old SATA hard drive will be much easier.

You can of course change the speed setting from the bios, but unless the memory stick is something very special you will very severe stability problems or just fry the damn thing outright. And as for the amount of memory.. well, I have 1GB of it and games like battlefield 2 can eat that up easily.

The estonians could easily receive our television broadcasts during the cold war (one of the reasons they were particularly dissatisfied with the regime) and even the soviets could'nt effectively block those even though we were not delibarately broadcasting to Estonia. North koreans have however solved this "problem." Getting caught with a radio set that can be tuned to anything but certain frequencies occupied by goverment radio stations means spending some quality time in some concentration camp or worse. Just glad to see our goverments furthering freedom of speech instead of restricting it for a change.

    The Iraq thread 4

And I have thought so far that the trend is to make warfare as sterile and desensitized as possible as opposed to making your troops have some kind of heightened sense of superiority and rage. Hell, just look how military terms with negative connotations have evolved in the last 50 years. (*cough* shell shock *cough*) And the kurds.. judging by the history and my personal observances (plenty of kurdish immigrants here) they are a fairly secular bunch if you compare them to their "neighbors". Even one of their main resistance groups is fairly leftist-nationalist (PKK).

    Windows XP System Restore

Yes it does. It's called not being an unsecure piece of crap that gets fixed late. Every bad spyware case I have seen was because of IE or those "funny" little "free" programs.

    Windows XP System Restore

I suggest that you take up fixing screwed up windows computers. They ARE hacked to death.. with spyware and viruses. So far recommending firefox, enabling firewalls and setting autoupdates on has worked wonders on more chronic cases fortunately.

    The Regiment

Well, I have been playing the regiment for some time now and here's my opinion: + Pick-uppable weapons with cool iron sights and no crosshairs (in simulation mode) + Weapon effects + Levels and enemies (only one occasion with neonazis, yay?) + Enemies that are wounded and not restrained might get up later and fry your ass if you are not careful. + Proper RoE + The pacing, there's time limit - sort of. - Tad slow and ugly. - Friendly AI can't be controlled properly and they act retarded sometimes. - Only four operations (+ training) with three levels each. - Misc. bugs - The M60! Overall i'd say it's a poor man's military version of Swat 4. Not brilliant but still worth playing and pretty damn brutal too when you need to hurry and have no time to arrest the downed suspects. You don't even get punished for shooting wounded suspects and you can hit those annoying hostages with your fist if they start giving any shit. Don't mess with the SAS.

USA Politics Thread - *No gun debate*

When in the history of warfare have POWs ever been put on trial? It's such an absurd notion, only a 21st century inhabitant of the west could possibly think of something so daft. What can you expect though, in the west everything is about trials and lawyers. Personally I have a hard time with the term "terrorist suspects" to begin with. So in past wars were POWs reffered to as "axis suspects." or "yankee/rebel suspects"? POWs do not get trials, they sit out the duration of the war in POW camps end of story. When the Jihad is over they can go home. And here was I thinking that the Bush administration has been continually insisting that these people are not POWs.

    1. Somebody draws some rather uninsightful pictures about muhammed of which one suggests that islam is a violent religion. 2. Time passes. 3. For some reason followers of islam start acting violently (for.. uhh.. being described as violent) and demanding that the west violate it's most sacred universal value - freedom of speech. 4. Some people get really annoyed (this is where I come in). So, what am I being so ignorant about? What am I missing here? Is this an enormous time-travelling zionist plot?
