Toadie's SmallArms and Animations for Arma3
Defunkt replied to toadie2k's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Thanks toadie, we're blessed with some fantastic, talented and extremely generous modders at the moment among whom you stand at the forefront. -

Weapon Resting & Deployment Feedback
Defunkt replied to solzenicyn's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
I guess they could play a generic gesture which momentarily removes and returns your off-hand to/from the weapon. -
Weapon Resting & Deployment Feedback
Defunkt replied to solzenicyn's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
In a perfect world sure but what you've proposed would require a gazillion new animations to interact convincingly with every piece of geometry that might allow you to rest. Not gonna happen. I'd prefer a sound+small-screen-movement over a U.I. element but I'm sure they'd provide the option to remove any icon. -
Apropos of nothing really, I wonder will it be possible to structure the DF FULL edition as an optional addition to this rather than having to download the content-in-common (which is probably a very high proportion) twice?

The landscape is fundamentally shifting where IP is concerned. You're wasting your time hoping for a 'solution' from BIS, much larger players with vastly more resources and stronger motives have tried to stem the flow of copyrighted content and failed outright. Technology creates opportunities in the blink of an eye and can destroy them just as quickly; the ability to create and then control digital content isn't based on some fundamental law of nature, it's a fleeting phase barely 25 years old and likely to become a historical footnote within another 25. The only alternative would be to artificially perpetuate this technological moment in time by granting governments and corporations the ability to vet everything that we transmit and receive and that's just too draconian for any right-thinking person to advocate. Services rather than content ownership happen to be where things are at right now and, like it or not, A3L provide a service people are (apparently) willing to pay for; maintaining servers, collating content and coding online experiences. Just ask musicians (the first artists forced to confront this sea change), touring and live performance (i.e. providing a service) are where they make their money now, their recordings are merely a promotional tool in this endeavour. But there are still good reasons to mod and release content which is, however you license it, effectively bound to become part of the public domain. Primarily there's the pure joy of creation unconstrained by any parameters but the ones you put in place for yourself. Secondly it contributes to your portfolio whether you're trying to break into game development or advance yourself within it. I know meshcarver already works within the industry (though I don't know at what level) but I can't help but think that a game based on NOVA ZONA with a million downloads and 10,000 concurrent players would go a long way toward securing a design role in any major studio. Just ask Dean Hall.

RHS Escalation (AFRF and USAF)
Defunkt replied to soul_assassin's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I disagree. If the mechanics don't exist which would require a person to drive cautiously off-road (i.e. realistic risk of suspension failure or similar physical damage) then the only thing to do is to enforce authentic use of vehicles via the mechanics that are available. Otherwise the game is going to be full of Only in Battlefield moments.- 15864 replies

That's awesome! I've long wished for a script-free version of JSRS (I pretty much avoid anything with significant scripting) but never imagined such a thing would ever eventuate.

All In ArmA Terrain Pack or ArmA 3 Map Pack
Defunkt replied to rekkless's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
AFAIK A3MP is no longer maintained and hasn't been updated for some time. AIATP has been the de-facto standard for most players for a while now and received a lot more recent attention in terms of new lighting, clutter and what not. While kju has stepped aside it also still receives updates and fixes; http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?188125-ASCZ-AiA-TP-Extensions-and-Fixes -
ArmA III Ballistics Overhaul
Defunkt replied to Spartan0536's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
It's not for me to instruct anyone on how they should pursue their hobby but if I was undertaking a project like this I'm pretty sure I'd start by giving everything an approximate/best-guess-with-available-data treatment across the board so it's all within coo'ee relatively speaking and only then start seeking perfection for the individual types. That way it should be possible to use the data right from the start without potentially upsetting balance. Right now I feel like if I put down a group of OpFor and a group of BluFor using the available improvements the latter are likely to clean-up every time because they're using the latest and greatest Mk.262/M855 with RL ballistics and the OpFor are stuck with whatever somebody thought was scaled usefully compared to vanilla (which seemingly was originally scaled by BIS for lengthy, highly survivable engagements). People often complain about how hard it is to put down units in A3 but giving only one side more lethality is creating a different (bigger) problem. Again, just my 2c on the state of the project at this time. -
ArmA III Ballistics Overhaul
Defunkt replied to Spartan0536's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
The reason I ask is because as much as I'd like to see weaponry reflect real-life as far as is possible what's even more important to me than absolute accuracy for a given weapon is that they maintain some sort of relative efficacy as a whole. When I see (in the SMA thread); I have to wonder if this treatment, as long as it it's only for a subset of weapons, is effectively compromising authenticity rather than enhancing it by seriously skewing relative efficacy. I certainly look forward to the day there's a complete data set with this precision for all of the most commonly used rounds but I'm personally a bit wary about using only parts of the such a treatment until then. Just my 2c. -

Yes, please! Given your success on this front has there been any talk within CUP about deferring the massive character conversion task? Seems to me it would be better to focus on porting vehicles (at least for now). -

Defunkt replied to gammadust's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
What solution are you advocating then? Free DLC? If the cost of creating new content cannot be recouped it's very unlikely a business like BIS would bother in this day and age. No DLC? I can't see how that's better than giving everybody Hi-Fi and Lo-Fi options. -
A new ISIS mod, picking up the ball
Defunkt replied to accuracythruvolume's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I disagree. You've fallen into the common US-centric view of equating OpFor with 'bad guys'. In this series (nonsense 'future' scenario aside); BLUFOR: United States and her allies and proxies; We agree Peshmerga, Free Syrian Army and Iraqi Army all fit this bill. OPFOR: Russian Federation (or previously the Soviet Union) and her allies and proxies; We agree Syrian Arab Army and Syrian NDF fit this bill but I cannot agree that IS are a Russian ally. INDFOR: Anyone who doesn't fall into one of the above (or who might readily vacillate) Yes, given only three factions that will mean enemies can appear in the same faction but that's always possible to deal with on a mission level. -

While the situation is complex and changeable I think the OP's choices far better reflect current alignments. -
Thanks heavens you're here now to tell all these 'annoying' modders what they should be making. Lord only knows how we all muddled along prior to your arrival eight weeks ago.

A new ISIS mod, picking up the ball
Defunkt replied to accuracythruvolume's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
You can base your own addon on those mods by nominating the original mods as dependencies but you can't repackage assets extracted from those mods without permission. As long as you follow that, you're golden. -
ArmA III Ballistics Overhaul
Defunkt replied to Spartan0536's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I've been wanting to ask, the first post doesn't appear to show statistics for a couple of very ubiquitous, principally OpFor, rounds (7.62x39 and 5.45x39 spring to mind). Am I right in understanding you do also have some values for these but that you haven't listed them because you don't feel that they're necessarily as accurate as the rest? -

Well it's good to hear you're aligned with AIA/CUP, hopefully these issues might eventually be fixed (without any additional work on your part). I'm dreaming of Orshanets+RHS+LOPFOR+TFAR for some 8-a-side T-v-T later in the year!
