    Secondary Monitor as Map

The argument 'for' appears to be nothing more than "our computers are capable of it therefore we should have it" which is daft. Your computers are most certainly capable of implementing an auto-headshot feature too, does that make it a good thing to add to a military simulator? If the feature was restricted to only certain vehicles then fine, it could be said to be realistic and I for one wouldn't begrudge anybody with a second monitor the added functionality in those cases (the same as I don't begrudge triplehead users their pursuit of added immersion). However that represents such a narrow opportunity to use it there's no way it could be considered a worthwhile use of development time especially when the inset GPS already exists.

    CAA1 islands standalone

I think this will suit us better also, many thanks to you and kju both. EDIT: Kju is it not possible that this CAA1 subset might become one of the new download options you've referred to above?

I want to support BI even more

I had guessed as much but I for one am very pleased to have it confirmed, it's clear how much work went into ArmA 2 and you deserve to do well out of it - many thanks. Hopefully this will also make it possible to consider an anti-cheat solution, regretably when a game becomes popular it is inevitably also plagued by hackers.
  4. What do you mean by this ? Just that I have taken some license with the interface to better match what can be achieved without it being add-on only. I love that nearly all of Mando Missile can be used on a public server without requiring players have an addon. Specifically; 1. An actual Javelin has two, fixed-zoom night vision modes (WFOV, NFOV) which (because the vanilla item has variable zoom) I have realised as WHOT & BHOT night-vision modes. 2. The GRND lamp I have added (in the real thing it is FLTR which indicates the IR is passive) as a means of indicating when the MMA Ground-Lock mode is selected. ---------- Post added at 07:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:16 AM ---------- I would just add to Mandoble's description of the locking process, that he has added a very cool element in that the time to lock depends on how close the target is maintained to the sighting aperture center. It gives tanks some real ability to improve their fortunes by staying on the move and to some degree (the aperture size is configurable per weapon) this will likely apply to AA MANPADS also.
  5. For an upcoming MMA (90% done). NOTE: This is NOT a Javelin simulator, if you need one of those look for Vigilante's in ACE2. I'm well aware it differs from the real thing but I wanted it in script (deliverable as part of a mission without necessarily an addon) and to fit with the functionality available in MMA. At some stage there could be an addon-only version with the fixed zoom IR modes but it's not this one. Thanks to Mandoble for very kindly making the (many) changes required, let him know you'd like a similar treatment for Helmet Mounted Displays. Please excuse the absence of sound, something not right with my FRAPS setup: M8xm0vh22-M
  6. What framerates were you getting? As a matter of interest, have you disabled vsync?
  7. I also could not discern a difference (never have) after using setWaypointCompletionRadius to set the radius to 50m. AI still move to the waypoint center.
  8. You all appear to be largely ignoring what I believe is the most likely bottleneck; your CPU. Nobody has said anything more than "CPU is nowhere near 100%". If you read Suma's article that should be anticipated, ArmA is still largely dependent on a single core running the game's primary thread and rendering - this is to save on the overhead involved in transferring large amounts of data between threads. If you have a multi-core processor the utilisation of each core is highly relevant to this discussion, I think it likely you'll find that your QUAD at 33% has one core going hard out and a few secondary threads taking up not much around the others. If that is the case it is likely your GPU is under-utilised because you are CPU bound.

    Straight-Forward Video Memory Thread

It occurred to me that possibly what happened here is that switching to Default (and using all available video memory) may have exposed a HDD bottleneck. Your transfer speed from disk may not be sufficient to service all that video memory.

    Straight-Forward Video Memory Thread

Sorry, dunno, I got the opposite, having used Very High for a while I then saw an immediate improvement after switching to Default.

    Straight-Forward Video Memory Thread

There's a thread around somewhere that explained that every option other than Default is actually a legacy setting and refers to a specific amount less than 1GB. Default auto-detects and in the majority of cases this will be correct, to make sure check the localVRAM entry in your ArmA.cfg, IIRC this is what it has detected, mine is 1073741824 (1GB'ish).

    Straight-Forward Video Memory Thread

For your card (HD4870 1GB same as mine) you should first try 'Default'.
  13. Really looking forward to it Ingeneer and all the screenshots and video you might post between now and then. Good luck.
  14. Snap, just wrote the following while you were posting: _origin = markerPos "Flare"; _new_x = (_origin select 0) + (Random 25) - 50; _new_y = (_origin select 1) + (Random 25) - 50; _create = createMarker ["Add1", [_new_x, _new_y, _origin select 2]];
  15. Counter-measures in vanilla ArmA would be great but were they I've no doubt you'd be equally outraged at the some other omission. It's your sense of entitlement that disturbs me, your God-given right to have an entire Battlefied modelled in perfect detail (around your starring role as squad flyboy) for just $50 and cry 'FAIL' when Santa doesn't cough-up everything on your list. The truly vital feature that is included is the (unparalleled) facility for users to improve all aspects themselves, including several options for counter-measures, but still you complain. You will of course buy Arrowhead regardless.

    Few questions to devs.

Whether your notebook is up to it or not is immaterial as it's very clear that you are not up to it.
  17. All he's saying is that if you only envisage using 3 of those modes it'd be a PIA to have to scroll through the other, shall we say, more exotic modes everytime to get to the one you want. If you don't know enough to understand that the facility to set specific clientside options isn't some sort of license to edit anything and everything you should probably listen, learn and keep quiet.
  18. Oh please! Where do you people come from? If they put that in you'd still be complaining about every other next thing on your 'can't live without' list. At what point have BIS delivered enough for your $50? If you can't see what's already included for the bargain it is you'll never be happy. What I got for my $50 = BI WIN and Operation Arrowhead will be equally worth every cent.
  19. Sorry, aside from miniscule differences toward the start of the disk (placement of which is a matter of luck if not planned), any part of a random access disk (and therefore a swapfile which is always contiguous) is as quick to read from as any other part, there is no size related overhead. Same min/max is a good thing though.
  20. If you're after a genuine discussion I'd suggest putting forward an idea or theory of your own and preferably avoid presenting such openly derogatory statements as "ArmA2 sounds like shit" as a statement of fact. You otherwise run the risk of appearing to be just one more in a procession of whingers who parade their over-developed sense of entitlement through these forums on a daily basis. I may possibly have reached an 'over-sensitive' state, so please don't take offence, it's just the endless complaining of the poorly informed is really starting to rankle.
  21. And the point of this thread is what beyond pointless (literally, there is no point) whining? It sounds fine and, more importantly, sets up everything required for modders to build their own soundscape, go download a mod and quit moaning.
  22. Defunkt

    Monsters, zombies and so on

I believe the issue is that the mod generates too much traffic for online use and as such any testing that is dependent on an Internet connection isn't worthwhile.

    Question for A2 developers... sysspec

Consoles were created to address a certain market, you are that market, get one. Of course you won't be able to play ArmA2 or most other titles with an ounce of ambition but you'll have (and pay extra for) all the QA anyone could possibly want. Go knock yourself out.
