Why are the public servers all empty?

DeLuka, unfortunately you just picked a bad night. Just like every other gaming community in the U.S., there aren't many members yet of Tacticalgamer.com who have the game. Many don't want the hassle of downloading a foreign version and going through the patching process. I usually just go on the server, vote myself admin, and play around with the many different maps the server has in rotation. Often times someone will jump into TS and join me in-game while I'm doing this, sometimes not. Sunday afternoons are our weekly coop events and there should be a decent turn out. Until then just poke your head in TS every now and then and wait for others to join. Sounds like a plan.

Well I set myself up for the Tacticalgamer coop server last night (logged into the Teamspeak server and everything) and not a single soul showed up between 6pm EST and around 8:30pm EST. Â Perhaps just the wrong night. Had to play on the Bootcamp server with lots of folks but the experience was ruined by various infants blowing up our helicopters and tking. Â It is a crying shame that it is not possible to turn off friendly fire against players and vehicles. Â I do not understand why this is not an option. I miss the days when OFPE was on the old Xbox. Â All players had voice communication by default and used it. Â All sorts of different missions were played (not just CAV over and over) and players were mature and any repeat tkers were booted immediately. Â Folks would log into your game and the first words out of their mouth would be, "Hello. What's the plan? Where do you need me?" *sigh* The good ol days.

Thank you for the helpful responses. I have registered at tacticalgamer.com as DeLuka and will try to get onboard this evening. I like the tactical guides on the site and will take them to heart if I all goes well.

Excellent info, thanks. I guess it's the Overall ArmA Server Population density pie gragh illustrates my point though. That's what I see on the server list. Don't get me wrong, I purchased the TrackIR4 Pro and eVGA 8800 GTX vid card for this game and want to get the most out of it.

Good point, although I did try around 5pm which is still 11pm to early morning EU time. Also I assume that I am not the only US player... heh.
  6. I am in Virginia and downloaded the Cz version and patched to English. I also use the TrackIR4 Pro and have really geared myself up for this... I go online and pull up the multiplayer server list and thery're all empty. Dozens of servers but no one in them. Is everyone playing in private passworded servers?

    Sprocket Troubleshooting thread.

Oh I was not thinking the patch caused the CTD. Â I was thinking it caused not being able to log into alot of mp servers. Â I get allot of 'kicked from server' or 'connection failed' and assume allot of it may be due to my english patch and the validity checking on the server.

Well I think the root of that "single-player" issue is the english patch. Â It makes the game look modified and the copy protection on the servers then disallows the connection. Â Just a guess but I will try it first without the patch and then with it to see if it makes a difference. Â Would be nice to install it in two locations, one with the patch and one without, and see if the non-patched version has any issues and maybe use it for online.

    Sprocket Troubleshooting thread.

Well I have recently received an email from Sprocket and they have given me a direct link to download the Arma file. Â I have also been asked to keep this link to myself, of course. Â So later I shall give it a go. *fingers crossed*: "Many thanks for purchasing ArmA: Armed Assault from us. The problem you describe affects a small number of our customers and we are as yet unable to determine its cause. It is probably somehow related to your network configuration but the precise details are as yet unknown. However, I have made available -- as a temporary measure - - the installation file to you on our ftp server you can access anonymously: >> url given by Sprocket << (Please, refrain from posting this URL on the Internet or sending it to other people. If you hear of somebody having similar problems, please forward him or her to our customer support. Thank you.) I am sorry for the inconvenience and may you enjoy your Armed Assault. Yours, Martin Sprocket Customer Support" Good job Sprocket. Appreciate it.

Well at least you got it to work. Well done. I usually try between 5pm and 12am with no luck. I'll try it through Saturday as well. Did you change anything on your pc between the time it did not work and then did or was the difference in time the only factor?

    Sprocket Troubleshooting thread.

I also am having issues with Sprocket.  I purchased the Czech version of the game and downloaded the executable but when it runs it goes into an endless loop of connecting to a server and then failing and then trying again.  I let it do this overnight without any results.  Yes I have my firewall off as well as all other relevant software.  I checked the sprocket.log and get these blocks of entries repeating.: 16:35:12.0046 - 220 FTP server ready. 16:35:12.0062 - USER anonymous 16:35:12.0327 - 230-user - anonymous 230 Anonymous user logged in 16:35:12.0327 - PUID >   removed  by me   < 16:35:12.0624 - 200-puid - >   removed  by me   < 200 UID OK 16:35:12.0624 - PASV 16:35:14.0640 - Receive error 0x00002746 in file .\FTPClient.cpp on line 1163 Seems there must be some sort of code error on the final line.  The sprocket.exe does connect to the mirror server but then fails somehow and starts over. I sent all this to their support email but have received no reply.  Perhaps my sprocket.exe is bad and another would work.  How long should I wait before having my CC company cancel this charge?
