    no, the two methods are great, because each can be use use for different things. example: the high polys method is excellent to create a character, but if you need only bolts on a hull, the bump map method is the easy way.

    @Jackal why do use a color map? you just need a normal map and a greyscale specular map (to make the lights on your object). no and no, you can't use a simple greyscale texture to make a normal map. you need to draw with grey, black, white colors the details of your textures (bolts etc). then you can use the filter. a normal map must no have colors. quick example: pic1-- greyscale bump texture pic2-- normal map (i use the nvidia filter)

    2 wip: an individual house and a fast flying troop carrier of the army of Letavia. the vehicle still need a landing gear and some other parts. the house need windows and details.

    in fact, the story take place in a fictive world, so they have a fictive energy. you can imagine an other planet. maybe, it can have no fossil energy, but some others. (gaz, etc) now the troop carrier has 4 little landing gears. btw: the army of the cities state will have 2 parts: btw: the army of the cities state will have 2 parts: - fast attack troops (Anath fast tank, Anath fast apc, Eshmun medical vehicle etc) - heavy attack troops (Baal heavy tank, Baal heavy apc, etc) the UNICON consortium will have its own troops: robotics soldiers, UNI-troops, legion-troops. and now the name of the planet is Letavia (this name is an ancient name of my "country")

    UV Mapping

    try wings 3d, the uvmapper is really easy. i use it to make my uvmapping. and you can import the model with the mapping in 3dsmax. and to have a good uvmapping. you must do the uvmapping for 1 part and 1 part etc of the model; i mean for example a tank, you need to map the hull, the turret etc. but for the little parts, you can merge the object and make just 1 mapping. 1 thing is important: if you have a lot of parts on 1 texture. the texture will be poor, because each part of the model will have a little size. you need to scale + in the uvmapper the most important parts of the model, to have a better resolution. (sorry for my english) an example: the hull of a tank + the lightingmap

    yeah of course. if the arma engine can open 2 doors at the same time; that would be excellent. but if the engine can't do that, only the big door will be openable

    thx yeah i don't like high tech, and strange futuristic textures. i think, that the armies don't have money to spend on useless things. because, they need to paint often their vehicles or repair them, too much stuff on them would be a lot of work. and for me that would be also a lot of work And to avoid to create a lot of details, the barrels are retained, by magnetic supports btw, i changed also the name of the project; now its "UNICON warfare" (UNIversal CONsortium). (it's maybe not the final name )

    it should work, but i think you will have some problems to read the 3ds file with oxygen and the new tool
