    Real life photography/photo editing

Might be a bit much, but I used a Fuji S7000 a lot (before I got the Canon 350D), and never had a problem with it apart from the slightly slow startup speed (When it extends the lens) The picture quality : http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=127446589&size=o (resized by flickr) The macro function on it was also really good http://www.flickr.com/photo_z....&size=o (again, resized by flickr) That said, theres probably thousands of decent cameras in your price range, thats just the comparable one I've used.. Slightly more general recommendation : MAKE SURE IT HAS MANUAL CONTROLS! In that price range it's unlikely it wont, but make sure.. I really don't think going over 6 megapixels will be of any benefit, so don't use the megapixelyness of camera to make your decion Also, if you can get the money for it, look at a DSLR Anyway, I'm sure theres someone with better advice Thankyou One question, what does everyone use to carry lenses around? I've got a camera bag, but theres only really room for the camera and a single lens, anything more than that and it doesn't fit.. A normal backback is kinda big, and I wouldn't want to leave a bunch of lenses rolling around and get leaned on etc - Ben

The second one is good.. Keep in mind, for a bands website, you probably want to get their faces on it more than anything - Ben

Trying out my new macro lens outside the Camera Shop (Sigma 50mm 1:2.8) I retried the smooth-river shot from last night, turned out better, despite being bright, and hand-held (Well, leaning on bridge) Trying out a telephohto lens (again, outside the shop), might get the lens next week (They'd sold the last one 15minutes before I got to the shop, ah well ) Final macro shot : - Ben

    Best of First-Person Tactical/Wargaming

Exactly.. Thats by biggest problem with people complaining about stuff being unrealsitic in games.. Developers HAVE to make bits of games "unrealistic" in a bid to make gameplay either more fun, or possible.. A good example of this, Lock On : Modern Air Combat.. The control sheet for that is around 7 pages, the game is extremely hard to use (Unless you want to sink a lot of time into the game to learn, but not many people are willing to do that) Anyway, it was a good article, hopefully a few devlopers see it - Ben

Finally got around to trying out a few ideas I had.. Never a good thing {Second} and {Third} are links to similar pictures, but I couldn't img tag them all (Well, I could have, but it woulda been messy) {Second} - {Third} {Second} - {third} All taken around 0000, amazingly no odd looks.. Helped by the fact the neigbours are all out of view - Ben

    how to

Normally I'd say look for "Dialouge" tutorials on ofpec.com.. Buut it's somewhat down just now.. Basicly you need to make up an description.ext file, and have the image saved as a .paa (converted with TexView).. Can't really help you with it since I've never done anything with them.. There might be some info on these forums, search about - Ben

    Modules for game2

I don't think it'd work out well.. Would you rather pay Åxx instead of waiting a while and downloading a mod that does the same thing? The module system works perfectly for VBS1, in millatry-type places, where they wouldn't want to have to make the stuff them-selfs, they can get a company to make the module for them, and it's easy to limit where it can be used etc.. But for a game like Flashpoint, where it's very modable, I'd say, no.. Although, being able to install mods like "modules" would be usefull, but I dont think many people would pay for them.. Engine upgrades via modules would be interesting though, but thats basicly what patches are far - Ben

..camera phones have progressed a lot recently.. Not quiite up to the standard of a proper camera, but for, erm, a phone, it's pretty decent.. http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/6486/dog23qu.jpg Would have been cool if you got the dogs face in the mirror, but assuming it wasn't your car (or a friends), the owner might have got slightly annoyed at you fiddling with their mirrors, still good though - Ben

    Community: LOOK AT YOURSELVES!

How do you know that? It's almost certainly going to be limited what characters can you switch to, which means the mission designer can not use the feature Jumping to conclusions never works, the game isn't finished, as those two pictures (This to this) shows the game is progressing hugely, so theres a large chance any "problem" you see will have been fixed already.. But, really.. You've (I assume) played a game, for upto 4 years, that has had huge realism "issues", gameplay bugs/limitations, slowly more and more outdated graphics, but you still play.. BIS obviously done something right, and I'm 100% sure there was far more bugs like the ones people complain about now in ArmA, and look what emerged.. You think their suddenly going to screw the game up for no reason? I doubt it.. Yes, discus stuff, but the near religous-whining over slight problems that probably have been fixed already isn't helping anything - Ben

    Lag

If your mainly upgrading your graphics card mainly for OFP, don't, buy 1GB RAM Well, depends on what graphics card you have just now, but I'd recommend RAM first, then new graphics card - Ben

    Err http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....;st=345 There's two threads - Ben
  16. DBR_ONIX

    Lag

Almost all the time OFP is laggy it's down to CPU useage (by AI, tracking what bullets do, doing collision dection etc).. Stuff like that can't be scalled down.. Even shoving all the settings down wont affect that.. If you can go onto the desert island, and get a very high frame rate (Well, say, 60 or 70), any lag you'll get is almost always caused by CPU useage.. Since graphics are done by the graphics card, settings won't change that.. While this isn't totaly true (There will be times when the graphics slow stuff down, I find it happens often with lots of particles, but the sort of lag that seems to be the problem here will be caused by the CPU being screwed-over..), it's mostly the case, and thats almost certainly why I see no noticeable FPS improvement when I shove the settings down.. - Ben

    I am completely lost

Operation Flashpoint 2 is just a name, that Codemasters own.. Since BIS is now seperate from Codemasters, they can't use the name, thus : Armed Assault, which is basicly an improved Operation Flashpoint, and will (hopefully) be released.. well, the release date was moved to Half-1 2006, which if I'm right ends in a week today.. "Game 2" is the same as "Next Generation PC Game", which may be called Armed Assault 2, and will be released the second half of 2007 I assume.. Basicly, if BIS were still with Codemasters, Armed Assault would be Operation Flashpoint 2, "Game 2" would probably be Operation Flashpoint 3.. - Ben

    MG's in ArmA

I can almost certainly say (well, guess) this wont be in the game.. It is possible to mod it in, kidna like what FDF done with the pickup/deploy MG/Mortar stuff, but I doubt it'll be incorporated into the released game.. - Ben

    SCAR'S SU-30 and LEOPARD 2 A6

Me and Codarl tried the Su30's in MP last night.. They look amazing, but there are a few huge flaws with it.. Not that "the [small negligible object] wasn't on the [something] version of the plane" etc kind of problem, but.. - Problem A, it's extremely over powered in game.. It starts of at ~1500km/h which is far far to fast for OFP - Problem B, it seems too strong for the game.. I "landed" it at around 200km/h, and amazingly it was fine.. - Problem C, enemies seem to ignore it (Placed 6 Vulcans, and flew around them for a bit, nothing) - Problem D : (The plane was fine, flew out the water/back in several times) Their just a few config tweaks, but unless I'm missing something make the plane pretty much unuseable (The AI-ignoring you one particularly), sort the problems and it'd be an amazing addon.. Such a nice model deserves an equally nice config - Ben

    Mapfact leaked WrpTool

*Sigh* I totaly fail to see the big deal with things like PBOx, ODOL Explorer etc... I can see why if a big company, who has spent thousands or millions of dollars/pounds/etc, will be angry if their software gets leaked. But for a group of people, creating a program for the community, and/or for fun and to learn programming, I completely do not see why people get so up-in-arms about a "leak" of such a program.. I would be glad to have more testers, and surely having more content created for the game you've worked so hard to make tools for is good.. Remeber, over reacting is a bad thing.. - Ben

    Best place to preorder from?

I seriously doubt it'll be released on Steam.. As for preordering it, I wouldn't bother yet, espically since there isn't a set publisher.. I'd wait till nearer the release date to preorder, but Amazon tends to be good, play.com is too.. But, as I said, I'd recommend waiting.. - Ben

    Power lines & Antennas

T'is a good idea, that seems to have been overlooked.. One thing, that I think you solved by open-sourcing it, is making the players download yet-another-addon just to play on an island (Some islands require a huge list of addons, which can be a pain to get, espically when a link is broken..) But I look forward to seeing these on some islands.. Hmm, I'd like to see a mission, set at night, where you have to (or can) destroy a power-line (or sub-station), which cuts power to the town your attacking, and (assuming you have night-vision) would give you an advantage.. - Ben

*Sigh* Can we please stop any conversation realting to Battlefield 2, or Counter Strike, etc.. Please..? Battlefield 2 and Operation Flashpoint are totaly different games, and shouldn't be compared, or used for comparisons of any other game's "realism" http://www.gameinnovation.org/index.p....on=edit Anyone care to start? - Ben
